I don't know about you, but when I hear Christmas, I think cartoon specials! There are TONS of cartoon holiday specials out there. But few stand taller than Dr. Seuss' "How The Grinch Stole Christmas." Though that might be because there's freaking THREE versions of it.
And in today's episode of "A Brief History" we take a look at how Dr. Seuss' timeless book became a cartoon classic, a controversial live action film, and the newest project by the Minions people.

i appreciate the live action grinch because the contacts burned his eyes, he felt like he was getting buried alive each day, he said the coustume was uncomfortable, and he still didn't get a high rating, which is really sad. the movie goes into great depth and detail about his and other characters pasts, and it explains why the Grinch hates christmas so much. i think it's the best of grinch movie of them all and you can not change my mind.

When I was a kid, I hated the live action version. But now it's one of my favorite holiday traditions. There are several times the Grinch is the most relatable character ever.
Ex: "Hate hate hate, hate hate hate, double hate, *LOATHE ENTIRELY* "
"If I can't find something nice to wear, I'm not going."
"Am I just eating because I'm bored?"
"I guess I could use some social interaction."
"Four o'clock: Wallow in self pity. Four thirty: Stare into the abyss. Five o'clock: Solve world hunger; tell no one. Six thirty: Dinner with me. I can't cancel that again. Seven o'clock: Wrestle with my self loathing. I'm booked. Of course if I bump the loathing to nine I could still have time to lay in bed and stare at the ceiling and slip slowly into madness... The illumination Grinch film was at least better than live action cat in the hat (We all know how well that turned out). The new Grinch adaptaction's greatest strength is it had no minions. ( In the commercial he holds a sign that says this)

I remember I was terrified of the 2000 Grinch as a kid. Watching it now, I usually get a good laugh out of it and both movies are now a Christmas essential for me
The grinch fills a special hole in my heart. When I was 4 I could barely read. But my grandma is a nurse for special needs and she goes to their houses. Her patient loved to be read to. By the end of my first month of going to her work with her, I learned how to read almost all on my own and I memorized the whole book. Sadly, He died a year or two ago, and I am now 11. The book holds a special place in my heart and I miss him so much.

He forgot to mention that they added more things in the 2000 movie that wasn't in the book or the 1966 cartoon. In the movie the Grinch had a backstory. And it explains why he hated Christmas so much. And of course the romantic subplot. They added a love interest named Martha Mae ( parody of Martha Raye) and a rival who is Whoville's mayor. And of course Cindy Lou Who had more depth to her character.
In 1966 the grinch had a motive. Noise.

I have an emotional attachment to live action Grinch movie. The first time I remember seeing it was on DVD many years ago at my Grandma and Grandpa's house in Kentucky. They're no longer with us, so that movie is a constant reminder of them. Every year I watch it and get emotional when Cindy Lou Who sings Where Are You Christmas. Oddly enough, Goosebumps is the same way, though I'm not getting too emotional over any sing in that show, if there was any.

1. It looks beautiful! Not just for Illumination standards.

The live action version is my favorite version. I've only seen the cartoon maybe 3 times, but the live action I can quote so much from it! I didn't used to like it, but now I live it. As for the Illumination version, I didn't expect much but it was better than I expected so at least there's that.

I have a strong emotional attachment to both versions of the grinch (being born in 1998 I don't remember a time with just the original), AND those "terrifying stop motion" christmas movies like the year without a santa clause (and even the far less good sequel) and rudolph. specifically heat miser and snow miser have been a BIG thing for me and my dad to bond on, within the past couple years I even got him the ornaments of them for our tree, and its not uncommon to hear him singing their song at any point in the year, especially around the holidays. even though he somehow always manages to mix up their verses so he'll be singing snow miser's version and say "whatever I touch starts to melt in my clutch"

I'm one of the people who hate the live action Grinch since I was an adult when it came out. I can understand
the kiddos who grew up with it liking it, but not anyone else. The CGI animated movie of Grinch that came out a year

I *LOVE* the live action Grinch. Especially the characterization of the Grinch, we all love an extra boi.
I honestly liked the 2018 adaptation more than the others for MULTIPLE reasons. It looks cleaner and neater, the CGI ain't that bad. The Grinch is literally relatable. I don't see a reason to hate it or dislike it, but to each their own.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas! was a OK film. I watched it twice in one day somehow.

The Grinch is a great film. I only watched it once, but me, being my stupid self, cried at the reason the Grinch hated Christmas. My dad is just super emotional, so he LOVED it.
