You are not kidding about Subarus being Legos. I have a 09 Forester X. It has coilovers and all STi aftermarket suspension. EZ30D swap was a thought now I think it is what I want to do. Thanks for making it all understandable for the average person.
The other H6 swap people do is the EG33D, 230hp stock, no AVCS/AVLS and the block its self is just an EJ22 with 2 more cylinders stuck to back of it. Plus its a bit easier to find and make exhaust stuff since it uses 2 EJ25 and 2 EJ22 flanges.

I drive a 99 outback with the EJ25 and was looking possible engine swaps. I had heard that the EZ30 goes "right in" but was stopped at the idea of wiring. It is both great and horrible to hear that it may not really be that bad lol
@BlackthumbTV do you have pictures of the pinout swaps? The main problem is the power windows because the diagrams for the switches are different between 97 and 01. I'll check out that other video thanks

im hellbent on doing this to my forester, get a built one cause i wanna splurge, ive got a 1997 sf auto with a whopping 92kw at the wheels. i wanna do the swap because as you said is all bolt on which makes life ez(30). i do wanna get an sti 6speed or at least a modded 5 speed because of not wanting to shatter gear boxes. ive lowered it with a mate and next is a big brake kit, youve really encouraged me to try and learn how to do car stuff considering im an apprentice fitter and turner.
My brother who is an experienced welder was not very supportive when I said Id do the exhaust for my fiero with a stick welder 😂 Not very nice welds (first time) but it works 🤷♂️

The ej22 is a glorious engine. My 95 impreza coupe has its stock ej22e running 10 psi from a td04l turbo. Its been running like this for like five years now without issue, at least as it relates to the turbo. Ps. I do have an ez30r waiting for the ej22e to explode. Im thinking compound turbo?

You've convinced me that the haltech is the way to go but how did you get around the anti theft bits? Ive got the ez30's bcu, ecu, cluster and key. Did you use the old cluster? Take a gander at the Wiring video I made if you haven't had a chance, but the short version is that the engine is just a hunk of metal until an ECU decides to send it signals to run it. The factory ECU has anti-theft software code in it, which would cause it to decide not to run the engine. So, we just replace that entire factory ECU with something that doesn't give a crap, such as the Haltech. Then the engine will run. Alternatively, you can reprogram the factory ECU to disable the anti-theft code via "tuning" or re-flashing the factory ECU with a modified software. Good luck with your project!

I use standalone ECUs, so whatever programming was in the original ECU doesn't matter. Stuff like this is the primary reason why I use standalones, actually.

Depends on your power goals. I wouldn't reocmmend doing a k swap in general. I plan to make a followup video about all that at some point. The EZ30R is pretty expensive to make power on due to the lack of aftermarket support. The EJs are pretty cheap in comparison to most options. My personal recommendation would be to sell the car and just get a WRX of the same year, it's going to more than likely be cheaper. But I'm also all for people learning how to do this stuff, so a turbo EJ swap a great way to learn

Yes the only thing to do to fix the oil leak is to rip out the old one and put a new motor with 2 times the power

I swapped a fwd 1.8 Impreza to a 2.2 with all the drivetrain. Everything bolted right in. Easy awd .

For the exhaust manifold? I just bought flanges online and literally eyeballed it. I've got a grinder and a welder, I'm ungovernable.

What ECU are you using? Did you tune yourself or use a base map?
Haltech Elite 2500 and started from the Haltech base map. Left the ignition table alone, other stuff changed to suit the fueling and chassis needs.
How do you/I ,get the rotational idle on my H6??
