Yeah, I thought that was a bit of a dick move, but these shows sometimes have time constraints, I suppose. Still, he could have shown a bit more interest; it genuinely was a decent trick!

Does everyone know that when the director signals "cut interview" (note the earpiece), the host MUST cut to the next seg or commercial? Any overtime error affects the rest of the program, and can be disastrous for a live show (especially with paid sponsors. Sorry, facts of life.) It does appear rude, but it's not too much to say it happens in nearly every live interview.

We really didn't even give him any direction on when the trick would end or what it would look like when it did. He was a great host who traveled to our home and filmed us for a whole morning... totally classy guy!
