  • This was taken in 2012. I bungee corded a handheld camera to the front of my 2004 Honda Shadow Aero and rode from my house on Andersen AFB to Tarague Beach and back.

This is crazy nostalgic. I went to Andersen Elementary 12 years ago. I was a 2nd grader. Seeing that street next to the school is crazy as I am 21 now and left just after 3rd grade. I lived at the base of palau loop(street), but I see all the housing has been dug up which is kind of unfortunate. It's so sad, but Guam was the highlight of my childhood, I am thankful for this video. My only regret is forgetting some of the names of everyone I met on the island. One of these days I will go back.

@@BHinsPOL Oh wow, I can't believe I didn't realize that was the street you turned in on. I always walked down the other turn into Palau Loop a little further down the road next to the school with friends. Looking near the beginning of the video before your first left turn, makes complete sense though. Wish I could have stayed longer, I want to see Guam evolve from 09' haha. I moved to Florida and have been since.

So many memories of Guam. The Wash out theater, Burger Barn, Hafa Day Market, The Navy base and o much more. I have a small velvet calendar of Guam and Talafofo Falls is the first thing you see. :)

Thank you so much for posting this. I made many trips to that beach. I was at "Marbolo" before my wife and son came over. I was there at AAFB from feb 74' to Dec 77. This was great! I'm retired now ,old and grey, but it brought back so many memories. Thanks again for posting this!!!

Just wow! Thanks! Such memories. Brings me back to being stationed there in the Air Force 1992 at the 644th Combat Communications Squadron. My chief was Chief Mainville. I remember atop the palm trees large fruit bats would hang out. What a wonderful place/assignment. everyone took care of each other

Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure there are no more fruit bats there because of the brown tree snake.

We were stationed on Anderson 1964-1968. Riding the base shuttle bus was really fun. Lots of terror. In the 1960s Guam was still a paradise /c no commercial flights into the island.

Thanks for the memories. It was great to see Guam as I remember it from 1956-1959 when my Dad was stationed at NAS Agana. Going to Tarague was a special treat for us because Tumon was our beach....just a quick drive down from the back gate at NAS. The scenery, once you leave the housing is just as I remember the island. Watching some other videos, my God h as Guam grown. I wish you would have spent a little more time on the beach. There used to to be the hulk of a Japanese transport ship hanging on the reef, as your face the beach it would be to your far left. And we never had to worry about snakes, there were none. Thanks again. BTW, what bike were you riding when you did the video?

    • @BHinsPOL

Lived there from 1968 to 1975 during Vietnam war. My most cherished memories in my younger years are of Guam and Anderson AFB, such a beautiful paradise I haven’t been back sure want to though. Looks like the jungle has been pushed back from the base quite a ways and the beach is a lot nicer with nice paved roads thank you for sharing we that have lived there appreciate that video

It’s so weird seeing all these houses. Right now, most of the houses on base are vacant, while others seen in this video have been demolished. The houses by the golf course going down the road to the left are so weird to see.

@@BHinsPOL The demolished houses are being replaced with a modern version, and it’s almost completed (186 units). I’m not too sure why most of the houses are vacant, I’m guessing they’re going to demolish those next.

Thank you for this video. My wife and I were stationed there early 70's, Your drive back from the beach crosses Midway Drive, we lived just around the corner from the intersection you drove through at 1511A Midway Drive. Another item is the drive to the beach brought back memories from when my wife's parents came to visit us. They had flown all night and my mother in law said she had never seen the ocean. I thought about the view from the road to Tarague where the ocean first comes into view thru the cut. We took them to the beach and she saw the ocean from that view point, very touching moment.. I thank you again.

Then we moved out then & exit back gate down to Rte 15 heading to Mangilao right across from Price Elementary School large property below GTA telephone authority owned before by GovGuam, below where my grandparents owned before the Agriculture. I didn't realized how much property the Military took from the people in Anderson, prime property ...
