That random talk about anxiety and randomly the therapist like talk actually helped a bit (i mean outside of singing, as a person who has dealt with anxiety for like 3 or more years)
I’ve had vocal issues since 2021 since I had Covid. It feels like someone is choking me when I want to hit high notes especially when I’m stressed. And since my voice is my moneymaker I keep pushing myself and that often leads to frustration. Usually I need 4-5 takes to record and now I need more than 20 takes. I have tried so many things to heal my voice. And it worked for a little, but when I feel a little tension everything goes straight to my voice. If this helps, I will give you a big hug and tickets to my show in the US (I’m from Amsterdam). After spending thousands of dollars to heal, I feel this is the answer and solution I was looking for. I guess when the student is ready, the teacher appears ✨ I’ll keep you posted!
Same thing happened to me. I had long Covid and still I have trouble taking a deep breath. When I hit the higher notes everything tenses up. I also feel like I can't take in enough air and get winded quicker. It's so frustrating because I had a powerful voice. Now it feels like someone is squeezing my lungs and throat. I also get exhausted after singing just a few songs.
I found out by myself doing karaoke i strain my voice cus of the tune so i search for either high key or lower key depending on the song and its helps much more
That sound at 0:35 is exactly what’s been happening (but to a more extreme degree because Im a metalcore vocalist) so I’m listening with bated breath right now
Does this help with voice cracks too? I like this advice, however I don't just strain but also have voice cracks, I tried getting other lessons on how to not voice crack, but sometimes when I don't feel like voice cracking it'll sometime comes on its own. If I stayed calm will the voice cracks be calmed too?
voice cracks can be related to straining. i think it's about both relaxing and also singing in a key that suits you more - maybe try a higher or lower key version of the song you're singing? but if it happens regardless i's guess it's strain. good luck!
The problem for me is, exactly exactly this but the peak of my anxiety hits me when I'm surrounded by people. When no one's around I sing perfectly well
As someone with anxiety, you could have not used a more helpful and "close to home" example to singing high notes, as I really struggle with stress and anxiety when I sing in front of people.
My problem is that, even though I sing very high notes without too many problems, when there is a jump to the final high note my jaw kind of freezes and I don't find a way to relax it and just sound natural. Didn't use to do that....
I have an alto voice and I’ve been wanting to improve and get a bigger range for the longest time, when I try singing out of my range my voice hurts and strains, I also think I don’t know how to have the right breath control, I need a voice coach 😭
Interesting but how tf do you disentangle whether someone is getting anxious because their larynx shoots up while singing higher notes thus they sound bad thus it makes them anxious vs they're anxious therefore their larynx shoots up ? Why teach acceptance when you could teach laryngeal control instead ? That sounds like a much better way of avoiding strain. Vocal coaches are so annoying, they get to give you bullshit just because their craft is not visible.

I heard a vocal coach on TH-cam talk about his struggles and how he resolved. Check out @rockyourbestvocals

Some people can’t sing certain things, try to sing different genres
