I was so ashamed to record myself singing because I hated my voice. Then I started to do it and in the beginning some phases in almost every song was a disaster, but I kept and it was so good, because I started to understand my voice better.

Hi Pranav Giri, This is a very common issue. Believe me you are not alone :) I recommend that you work on mastering your head voice and then practice mixing some head voice into your chest voice when you sing higher. I made a video on head and chest voice as well as a track to help practice mixing chest and head voice. Here they are:
      Head/chest voice video: th-cam.com/video/zM2GDKDLr8s/w-d-xo.html

Truth is, its all about placement. Most of the the time a lyric just cant do what a dramatic can do easily. That goes vice versa. You can achieve the same notes but you'll have to approach it differently. Most importantly as said in the video, don't rely mostly on your throat. Use your full chest cavity, utilize your whole face to distribute the tension.

I have this issue. First of all a healthy immune system and plenty of the 90 Essential Nutrients including the EFAs from fish oil, krill oil, avocado, and including enough vitamin D, Vitamin C, Zinc, and iodine, also DMG, Quercitin and MAC can help. But beyond all that, a singers secret is to mix cayenne pepper, honey and vinegar, and gargle with that. You could use balsamic vinegar with that mixture. Might even be brave and use the extra hot cayenne pepper ground. Just gargling with it, so it should be fine, this cuts the phlegm. Good Turmeric product might not hurt either, like Bodease

Hi Roxanne MCV, Thank you for sharing your story, I'm sorry to hear that has happened to you. I've worked with singers before who has experienced similar issues. I recommend the you do three things. 1st go see an ENT to make sure it is not something more serious than a lack of training affecting your voice. 2nd, start by doing gentle exercises when you resume your training. Lip trills and slides are good starters. It is like if you used to run a lot but then took a break. If you start by running a marathon it is too much. The same goes for your voice. 3rd, what is affecting your voice might also be that you have gained some different singing habits over the years. It is common to develop tension without noticing it. I've seen good progress with my students who go back and sing old songs that they used to sing because it triggers their previous way of singing. So try and practice with some of your older songs and see if it makes a difference. I hope this helps. Please let me know how it goes :)

3:14 “you’re voice…falling out effortlessly!”. This is the best advice on TH-cam! I’m a piano singer, who has long fought with my tendency to push…due in part to trying to match the volume of the piano. I’ve tried to “sing less” or telling myself to “stop pushing”, but that just doesn’t stop me from doing it. This mental imagery about the words just falling out, though, simply works for me…in a big way. I guess we all have different images that work for us. After thinking about it this way, my voice becomes so much freer when I sing. I find that I’m no longer locked into anyone specific configuration for the duration of a phrase. I can change that configuration midway through. And as an unexpected bonus, I’m actually louder! Thank you for this!

Hi Kristine Li, Thanks for sharing your experience. This is common and you can learn to not strain. The trick is, that you have to get used to producing sound differently than you are used to, as you might know habits can be broken. I recommend you try out these two videos to help you experience vocalising without straining.
      1. The exercise in this video lets you experience your voice as it sounds to everyone else. Hearing your voice in this way can help you realize that you do not need as much effort as you are used to in order to make sound: th-cam.com/video/0yKMbRiOwsw/w-d-xo.html
      2. I also recommend you connect your breath support to your voice. Doing lip trills can help you with this. Here is a video: th-cam.com/video/fwNPp-RS4IY/w-d-xo.html
I hope this helps. If you have any other questions please ask me again. I used to experience straining when I first started singing and I am very passionate about helping others in the same boat :)

I'm in church choir. You know my problem is that I'm known for singing really high notes. Even if its really low I start off with high pitch. This makes things difficult when the pitch gets even higher. And my problem is that I sing from my throat. So it's a lot of pain and struggle.. After singing for a few minutes I feel a lot of strain and pain in my throat. This also makes my singing look like I'm yelling. My singing is good though despite the fact that it feels less soft and loud.. Due to this my voice is loud af and hoarse. Thankyou for this video. I was insecure about my voice and the pain when I sing is horrible. 😀😀

I have a very raspy voice and i dont know what to do,
    please help me

    • @singgeek
      @singgeek  5 ปีที่แล้ว +29

Hi neymar0704, Thanks for your question. The cause of a raspy voice can be connected to different things. If you find your voice to be very raspy, I would suggest that you start by seeing an ENT (ear nose throat doctor). They will be able to look at your vocal folds to see if there is anything going on with your voice anatomically that might be hindering it from producing sound freely. I know it is not the most fun answer but my number one priority is to make sure we keep your voice safe so before you start doing any exercises I recommend that you get your voice checked out by a specialist. If your voice looks fine then I suggest you do some exercises to balance the sound production in your vocal folds. Lip trills are really helpful in connecting your voice with your breath support. I made a video on lip trills here: th-cam.com/video/fwNPp-RS4IY/w-d-xo.html
Once you are able to trill your lips freely, try starting a sound by trilling your lips and then open your mouth to finish the note on an "ah" sound. This should naturally lead you to produce that sound with a good breath pressure in your voice. Let me know how it goes and please don't hesitate to ask follow up questions :)

I have undergone a vocal polyp removal , now I realised, its due to vocal strain . I am finding difficulty whenever I sing high pitch notes.
I will start practicing on different exercises you have suggested.

When I listen back to rehearsals (which I always record for the reasons you stated) I can hear that I'm yelling more than singing. I'm very aware of the fact that my voice lacks the "nice, brilliant tone" you speak of. I would love to see a video from you on this specific topic -- improving vocal brilliance. :)

I remember way back when I was a teenager, almost 40 years ago, I always tried to make my veins pop out of my neck because I thought that was the proper way to sing. Whitney Houston always had veins popping and she was one of my biggest idols. Of course I never got them too so I just stopped trying after a few months lol. If only I could just sing and stay on key throughout the entire song.

I was never taught professionally how to sing so I think I did end up straining my voice, and I noticed that it was harder for me to get into my upper range since I wasn’t using good technique and it hurt a little, now I’m afraid I damaged it forever! But I have not been singing hard songs for a few months now and mostly just singing soft ones when I want to sing so I don’t ruin my voice, I hope it will heal well. I’m looking for a vocal coach so I can learn correctly but until then I’m going to be more careful. I’m kinda scared this is permanent though because I really love to sing and it’s one of the things I good at. I noticed a loss in control when I sing stronger songs that are kind of loud, like I can’t sing it indicately, but I haven’t sung anything like that in a while so I’m not sure. Thanks for the tips! I was trying to sing this really soft smooth song and I was wondering why I couldn’t, but the tips helped me fix that for the song I was singing mostly!

Recording is The best thing lve done so far for my voice. After a week i done more progress then ive done for a whole year. Now i get more The feeling that im creating and tuning a instrument that adjust til i get that im happy with. It hard though becuse it so mutch You need to remeber. You learn thing and forget another. The fine motoric behoind dosnt make it easier and its not just many things You need to remeber, i have to be aware of of it all at the same time and Learn to have perfect controll of it all at The same time, cuz Your body need to work simultaneously with eachother so it all Keeps in perfect line and hormony always. Very complex stuff to do with your body with that realisation i understand this is not something You can learn like that. You Will never to focus on so mutch at The same time. Thats why i forget my resonance techniqe sometimes if i lat my focus on how my core when i sing when i focus on reconance maybe more core Will start to behave in i way im not happy with. This is something that your body has to be used to, and that takes alot of time for sure. Many hours of training. Becuse it can only work when You done this so mutch your body flows and breath without You need to think so mutch about it. It becomes more of a reflex dosnt. need your fully focus and brain power. That is obvious even if i am a amature with no experience. You cant just go The a swimmingpool and expect to swim fast like a pro with The training. Maybe its same with singingin. Its just not possible to sing well, before muscles are strong enough with perfect sync. You cant never learn to swim well. If You only train arm movement and u need a trainer if You want to take You swimming to a more serious level. You save a Great amount of time and energy on training that dosnt give resultat. And dont be ashamed that You suck. No one Will laugh at You and You dont look stupid in any way. Becuse let me tell You a fact. Everyone starts at botton and has been where You are. You dont embarasse your self in anyway. Whats embarassing is People Who do nothing. If You dont try You cant fail. And wanna now a secret, its not about natural talent or musical ear thats unique and special and is some You are born with. Suspect music ppl tells these lies to keep competion down, or maybe viewd as special so they can sit on their gordous piedestal. Dont know. The one thing that Will have The gonna determain your development is how mutch do You want it? The ones Who wants it The most are certainly The ones at The top. Trust me. Well if You rich and can afford The best help, maybe thats a big factor as well. But for ordinary ppl your willpower is whats gonna determain how good You Will be. The one with greatest Will power always gone swipe The floor. Whats need to be done is decide your goal, and make it very big You want your goal to be where your Dreams are. Is it to be a star, set that goal. I just want to have a Great voice so that i have it in my life to enjoy doing. I do it for me only. Dont mind to become very good though. And when the goal is set, You should Right there and then get it to your head that this is what You gonna strive for and prepare your self to be diciplined and important it is that You can not ever fail. You most achive your goal no matter what. This is on the of your list of whats matter in your life. Skip a training should effecy You so hard You cant even sleep if You starts to Skip. Becuse You Will never achive this if You arent disciplin enough. Impossible to be 100% in You training. But You should not accept that your training maybe isnt so important to follow like a machine. Skip some of it. Dosnt matter. It do matter. Becuse toes Skip days i told your self didnt matter. Is The amount if days gonna skiped when The 100% is followed. And Your neq Skip Day schedule had alot more Skip days then planed. Sing with a partner is a good way as well. Becuse You gonna push each other. And becuse You know how serious your partner is and You have promise eachother to be just as serious You cant just make an excuse to skip a training. You gona have to have a damn good excuse for something like that. Becuse You know how mutch time your partner had spent and needs You. So many Times both of you Will just go train for your friend sake. The arrangement its self stops You to skip. Its genius. You are always in competition to eachother its natural. This creates a enviroment The push You both to be That You ever could if done alone. Make it a lifestyle.you want to stare this with others Who You grown together with. Dont think You want it to be memory where You spent a sick amount of time just train and train. Becuse its a extremly high price to pay. Dosnt matter have Great You become. Stil a high price.if i want to be The best it dosnt matter in what. You have to pay a price of letting go something big that everyone else enjoys. The amount of work behind is no suprise. But make it The best of it. Its suicide to it alone. Have friends cant handle social, they want so mutch but its so important anf insted behave in a way that makes them feel so ashamed they feel like it set his future to always act wierd. Only way is to become a star. So hours spent Day after Day year after. Almost Impossible to hang with. Cuz even me as closest friend hard becuse of beeing reminded how easy i made it look. Even calling me alpha en him Delta. The irony is how i always looked up them and was greatful how mutch they have learn me about morals empathy and made understand im not stupid as I think. And he was The alpha between us. Now he has spent so mutch time alone it made huge impact, still isolet alone in The Woods only playing game. Music Dreams dropped. Cuz ge didnt count on that he meet People and preform infront of others so other would know Who is. Alone in a room dosnt really creates exciting character ad well. It was hard to se when he tried be a cool rockstar guy. Very sad. Other friend took it so far he changed hus sex. And now regrets it and want to die. He only wanted attention. So drugs. They do drugs in Great amounts and find happiness there. Idk what to do

I recommend really practice breathing exercises, MAKE SURE TO SING WITH YOUR DIAPHRAGM, when you breath in make sure your stomach goes out,if your chest goes out, you're doing it wrong. Proper breath support is crucial! As for improving your range, support and breathing for each note is super important and I recommend GRADUALLY going higher in your warmup scales with full breath support.
Forgot to mention vocal placement in the body is important too.
