When I say that to mine all they say is “Stop, let’s move on.” I am like “your not going to tell me try and read the letter stupid.”

If I ever say that (since I’m younger) they say “It’s alright don’t panic” and I’m sat here like... I’m not panicking....I’m just blind.
I think maybe they want you to keep guessing to see just how well you can or can’t see the letters. For example, maybe to see if you can at least still tell the difference between round letters and linear letters. Like if you guess G when it’s an O, at least you can tell it’s round, but if it was O and you guessed T, they know you’re lost

I can't even read the big A at the top, my optician waits until she's put three lenses in those glasses things before she even attempts to get me to read the letters 😂

Yesterday I went for an eye test at the opticians and had to stifle my laughter 😆.My optician is cheerful anyway but I’m thankful I managed to keep my composure. McIntyre is such a legend, making everyday activities totally hilarious.
I just went to the eye dr. today, and I was thinking of this and trying not to laugh. 😂
I'm working in a big practice of ophthalmologists.
And its exactly like that! The test is a little bit different, but our patients are guessing the hell out of the letters, as if there's a price to win. But we just need to do a follow up to check if the medications are working.
Still hilarious to watch in this clip, although it's nerve wrecking to watch in real life 😅

Just went to the eye doctor last week and I did exactly that I squinted to try and make out the letters that I couldn't see whatsoever!!😂
When the flip the one or two thing. One of the lenses is long sighted ones the other is short

and theres me at an eye test.....ummm well it looks like a triangle, a burred triangle so it must be an A! that looks a little like a blurry number 8 so im going to say B! and the blurred number 2 is a Z! and forget the rest after that lol🤓🤓🤓🤓😜😂😂😂
One time I actually guessed all the letters correctly. It was during one of the eye tests that they administer at elementary school. I don’t have terrible vision, but I still need glasses, but after I read through all the letters the lady said I had perfect vision and sent me on my way.

my optometrist had to design a new set of letters because as a kid I had them all memorized
im near sighted, went to get glasses a couple weeks ago, very nice to have glasses now, and as i went in to get my eyes examed i remembered this video and found myself laughing because of this. :D

My opticians says the same thing everything time I go. I have to go every 6 months since I was 5 cause my eyesight is terrible (-6.5 and -7) so I know the appointment off by heart!!!! 😂😂
Same here, discovered my eyesight problem when I started school.
The frequency of eye tests annoyed me and I learnt the whole chart off by heart, thought I was so smart until the optician twigged. Thought if I could go through the whole chart I wouldn't need to wear glasses, turned out I was obviously as thick as I was blind but at 9 years old I knew it all. Still wearing glasses 70 years later so I concede I did have a problem.

Gretchen Miller I also can’t see the top letter which is quite frustrating then my doctor gave me the wrong prescription and I was like what is this I still can’t see why did you give me a prescription less than my first one if you said I’ve gotten worse ?
Same but with contacts I can see the top line and literally guess the whole second line LOL
I can’t even see the face of the optometrist. Seriously. A stain in the room. I’m -7.5. I understand there’s much worse 😬

.......My dad. He is the squinter, peering eyed, perfect guesser. My mum & are *convinced* he somehow cheats at the optician's. He has those magnifying readers, but he - somehow, because he can't bloody see things like he thinks he can - *never* 'needs' glasses after an eye test.
He's 67. And honestly, most people would never guess how old he is. He still bounces everywhere & apart from thinner hair, I genuinely don't think he's changed much in 20 years (& I'm not being nice, or kind... everyone says it, & all his friends got older... I just hope the genes are strong!) So the point is, it wouldn't bloody matter if he wore glasses all the time. First, the rest of us have them, second, who cares anymore? Third, it's practically *expected* that a man in his 60's would have glasses. We don't know wtf is wrong with him!! *Just tell the truth!*
Honestly, I think it has nothing to do with glasses, it's about winning. He thinks it *is* a game - but *you have it wrong Michael!* - the prize (apparently), is *not* winning the glasses.
Or maybe it's actually walking out and telling my mum he *doesn't need glasses* 😏.
Honestly, I'd say both factor high.

And in the US the optician is not the doctor that's the Optometrist. I'm an optician and my job is to find proper fitting glasses for the patient based on the script. And I love it :-)

i went to specsavers recently, and had to go through this. it turns out the first letter is to test if you are legally blind. If you cant see well enough to read the top letter, you are blind. i remembered this exact sketch and just went "nope, cant read the next one". i think the lady was surprised lol

They don't base your vision on your abilities Ty to read the letters. They have other tests like the hot air balloon which sees how the light enters your eye and if it reaches the back (which it should

I can see perfect in one eye and I'm completely blind in the other so my eye tests are fun 😂can get all the letters in one eye and when they test the other I can't even see the big letters
Try being long sighted in one eye and short sighted in the other 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️
The solution in this case is to get an eyepatch, and swap it between each eye depending on the situation 😂

the problem with contact lenses is that you can no longer brag about not wearing glasses

I figured out that they just put the same letters on the screen so I’d get them all right, everything’s a blur to me but apparently I’ve got perfect sight.
There is that brief moment before they put any prescription in where I am looking at the letters across the optician’s room...
And truly realise how fucking bad my eyesight is ✌️

Opticians really annoys me because it seems as soon as you hit the late 30's they just want to give you glasses. It's almost unthinkable that you should still have good eyesight. I'm sure it's profit-driven. I know people who've bought glasses on their optician's say-so and the glasses sit in the draw at home because they manage fine without them.
Not particularly. Alot of patients are in denial, we all age and at some point need reading glasses. If a patient is asymptomatic and they have a small prescription, glasses aren't required.
@@Neelilovesislam That's as maybe, but I am always pestered to buy glasses, despite being able to read the fine print on packets in the supermarket without a struggle.
@@julie5668 That's a shame. I'm genuinely happy for patients to carry on without specs if they're having no issues or aren't experiencing additional eyestrain without correction.

It's when you remember people on the basis of their colors. So when you meet them again in an unfamiliar setting, and they wear a different outfit or dyed their hair, you start introducing yourself, like you've never seen them before in your life!
