Although the thing that clinched me getting a dashcam was the number of illegal e-scooter riders who kept trying, fortunately with no success, to throw themselves under my wheels, one of my principal reasons for getting one was being able to review my own driving. I still do rewatch my footage and while there have been no great revelations there have definitely been some, thankfully minor, "could have done that better" moments.
@@ianmason. I have watched some of my footage to see where I had gone wrong a few times. Can be a bit of an eye-opener at times! I got front and rear cameras due to the increasing numbers of people that seem oblivious to anything around them!
@@Meal-deal555Police can calculate the speed using the time taken to pass points on the road, after physically visiting and measuring the site. This would usually only happen in an incident involving a death or serious injury.
@@VictheSecret although you could argue that the video doesn't record at 1x speed, as some poor quality cameras record footage that's sped up or slowed down slightly, and as such, would not give a correct result.

I think they don’t actually look at their own driving. They’re tunnel visioned onto the mistakes of other, therefore don’t realize their own mistakes. I’m glad these people send those clips, because then they actually get the opportunity to learn and improve.
Look at the dates on the footage for a lot of the clips, they are from years ago, so they probably don't drive like that any more after watching enough of these kinds of videos.
The last clip @7:11 is the great orme in llandudno wales, it's the "back road" from the top down to the coastal road which is equally stunning to drive.... it's been used as a spectator friendly rally stage a few times also
There is so much willy-waving on UK roads. I used to be one of those dickheads. I've calmed down now, in large part, thanks to Ashley's videos. Thank you, Ashley! You inspire us.
The one at around 5:09 is quite something, with the driver of the black car opening their door a second time, and this time whilst their car is still moving! A bit Starsky & Hutch there.
Honestly, I find that just presuming errors around me are naivity, innocent mistakes or someone just having a bad day rather than a slight on me makes driving a much more pleasant experience.
That "first" viewer seems concerned with people intruding into other lanes (and not slowing to accommodate), but the second clip shows them intruding into the left lane as they move onto the roundabout to turn right... They're doing the same thing as the people they have accidents with.
are we watching the same video? the first viewer on the video I'm watching came a cropper because he cruised in the blind spot of an Audi, and the viewer in the second clip was a different viewer who went for an overtake in a roundabout.
@@kenbrown2808 Yes same video. The commentary alludes to both clips coming from the same source, thus probably the same driver ("time for a 3rd nissan micra?").
@@kenbrown2808 The first two videos are from the same person (in two different Nissan Micras). In the second clip he cuts into the left lane when entering the roundabout - so basically the same error that others made that he's objecting to.

8:23 That looks like the private toll road going up (and down) the Great Orme, Llandudno, North Wales. Been there, done it. *ALWAYS* make a mental note of previous refuge points. You never know when you'll meet a car coming in the opposite direction. On a little side note, that road isn't wide enough to leave a 1.5m gap for cyclists so extra care is needed.
As someone who drives for a living it's only natural I've made a few mistakes here and there, but I am utterly mortified after a bit of driving I feel was poor since I normally hold myself to a high standard. I wouldn't just blame someone else and send the footage.
Yeah, everyone makes mistakes. Good drivers are embarrassed about them and try to learn from them. Bad drivers blame everyone else. Personally, I try my best, but sometimes you simply make a mistake. Pretty much every single time, I almost immediately go "well, that was stupid of me" and try to assess how I let that happen.
Yeah, couple of things I've done when driving for a living have in hindsight been total fucking stupidity and really - over the course of the day - affected how I've even felt about the day's work at the end of it. I've changed a lot of things over the miles, though at times I go "ah... yep, that is stupid, why'd you do that". Lowered the rate at which I've had to think that though, and leapt at an opportunity to change departments at my job to not have to drive any more anyway. Too many people are not calm drivers and it was starting to feel like even with foresight, something bad was going to happen. Roughly when someone exited lane 4 on the M25 and cut me up in lane 2 (the car ahead of them, and the car in L3 were side by side (the driver of the car that cut me up was flashing her lights and waving her arms and screaming at them for... not passing? There was a car ahead of them in L4 etc...), traffic was heavy and doing about 60mph, and I was about... oh, 1 and a bit car lengths behind the car in L3, passing traffic in L1. I saw the flailing raging driver and saw the gap between me and the car in L3 and figured it was probably too tight and she'd not do anything that stupid... nope! She threaded the needle and then weaved through all the traffic ahead. Absolutely fucking unhinged. Glad the gap wasn't smaller!)
The patience of some people amazes me how low it can be. People hate the idea of danger in their day to day life yet put them behind a wheel of a car and some people just seem to laugh in the face of the potential harm they can cause themselves and others easily. @@williamstrachan
04:50 I know the cammers driving was poor and aggressive but I don't think it's comparable to cutting someone off on a fast moving dual carriageway then stopping your car and attemping to start a fight, before continuing to pursue them down the same road. Should instantly lose his license and maybe even see bars for this level of dangerous driving imo. It's always the same kind of people as well, 20-30 year old young lads who think they're hard because they've stuck a turbo on a shitty used car. Cammer needs to recognise that it's not worth it with these people, let them drive like idiots and eventually karma will do the work for you. There's a higher than normal chance these kind of drivers don't even have insurance so even more reason not to go near them.
To be honest, any vehicle can contain a deranged individual predisposed to violence. They are usually halfway to a road rage incident when they get in the car because of a crisis of masculinity, drink, drugs, testosterone deficiency, whatever it might be. It's usually wise to avoid any kind of road rage, any eye contact or action aimed at another driver, because you never know who's going to climb out with a shiv, a bat or just some wild fists or a headbutt. Just don''t engage. Get out of the situation. If being followed, call Police from the car if at all possible or drive to a Police station.
Yeah I didn't really agree with Ashley's assessment that something happened before the video. The way the Seat got super close to the BMW and Mini immediately after the original overtake suggests that it was someone who wanted to go as fast as possible and was triggered that the cammer had held them back.
Yes. Ashley may think it goes without saying that the Seat driver was out of order, but if he is conducting a full analysis of their driving then he NEEDED to say it! If he doesn't give a complete analysis, people will think it's OK to behave like that, because Ashley says they bring it upon themselves, and didn't criticise HIS criminally irresponsible driving at all!!!

These type of videos belong on one of the other dash cam channels were they think they are completely innocent...but I'm glad they send them to you, so you can rip them to shreds. One thing I've learned from you're channel is to always stagger when driving. Even this morning I had two or three people do last minute lane changes (one cutting across 2 lanes). Am I annoyed because it's dangerous? Yes. Do I take I personally? No, just let them do it, give them space and carry on with my day.
At around 2:12 where our cammer had to keep going around the roundabout to see where the other vehicle went, that should have been played to the tune of the Magic Roundabout, for those of you old enough to remember that tv series!
@ibs5080 I come for the videos and always look out for your comments as they're generally informative, like when you compare Canadian roads to the UK, or entertaining with your little quips like this one! Thanks for never failing to disappoint. Don't ever change..😊
I had to check, twice, to make sure I was watching the right channel! Then I thought these clips must have been sent to the wrong channel, but then I realised that I was definitely Ashley's voice doing the narration. I'd be embarrassed to the Nth degree, to own up to any of those clips!
I watch enough of Ashley’s videos and it’s amazing how many drivers ignore the the 2 second rule and simply drive too aggressively/quickly relying on their brakes and reactions to get themselves out of problems until they they until run into a similar sort of driver. This also manifests itself when exiting at junctions where they have to overtake the car in front of them when coming from the middle or right hand lanes rather than pulling into left hand lane behind the said car.
That clip at 5:22 happens to me everyday in the exact same place coming away from the Trafford Centre. Caused by drivers speeding along the outside lane of the parkway. Chancers, nothing more. The whole thing plays out with different drivers it’s just amazing to see 😂
Not to sound soft but I've been driving 17yrs (touch wood still no incidents) yet watching your videos I feel I've become an even more observant and patient driver. So thankyou 😊
I find it amazing that despite the thorough education and tips you provide on your channel, that some viewers have the courage to send in such clips. Thank you so much for the content btw - I really feel like I've bettered myself in so many little ways on the road. In any situation now, I always think "what would Ashley do?" And that knee tip for lane discipline really works!
1:31 The camera probably looks through a part of the windscreen that the wipers do not reach, so I suspect that the main part of the windscreen was clear.
@@JKK_85 Probably not an issue for the annual MOT (although might raise a comment) but if it impedes the driver’s visibility then could be an immediately punishable offence if seen by the police…
@kwlkid85 that's because having an item within the driver's can be considered an MOT failure point if said item cannot be easily removed. On my car, I stuck my dashcam to the centre of my windscreen just below the rear view mirror. It cannot be seen from the drivers seat and because it's behind a factory fitted item, it's never been an issue. It's also nicely in the swept area.
Viewing the second clip I noticed something in realtime that was slightly concerning, at around 1:37 they appear to be straddling the lanes on the entrance to the roundabout and there is usually one reason for this, to carry the momentum into the roundabout. I have said this many times elsewhere that if you use the correct lanes and stay within your lane markings it makes things easier as you will most likely need to reduce the speed slightly and this then gives you more time to react and also less chance if catching vehicles already circulating as quickly. Combine this with the obviously poor conditions and you are just asking for trouble Plus don’t try and pass any vehicle already on a roundabout unless you are 100% sure it is safe or you can stop. A signal can be misleading especially on these types of junctions as many drivers forget to use them or simply use the wrong one
There is another reason: The road is wet, traction is reduced. It makes sense to reduce the radius of any turn in order to prevent a loss of control. And even if the cammer is not thinking in such an advanced manner, large radius curves just feel more natural. Nothing wrong with that when you have the space around you and you're not giving anyone behind you any surprises.
7:53 The wife’s plea is quite unnerving. How often do you have to fly off the handle for your wife to hysterically beg you to calm down over a simple fender bender
I was confused watching this clip. I couldn't hear another adult, so I had assumed that the woman was actually driving and was simply talking to herself to convince herself to keep a level head (which would also be of benefit to the child in the car).
@@article82plays15 That's what it sounded like to me too. Rather a lot of assumptions here that the "little lady" has been consigned to the passenger seat.
@@ianmason. Yeah and it sounds like how I'd talk to myself in a slightly stressful scenario. It's possible that Ashley has some additional information that he received alongside the video, though. And we're making our own assumptions: maybe she is a passenger; the toddler could be the driver. There's no way of knowing!
This cannot be said often enough. Roundabouts are not overtaking places. Obviously, you will naturally pass some vehicles but going into a roundabout with the intention of overtaking is a mug's game - and half the fare of other dashcam channels.
The important lesson to be learned here, and from the more prosaic dashcam channels, is not only "don't overtake on roundabouts" but also "watch out for other people who don't know better trying to overtake on roundabouts". The later can still get you even if you're being nice as pie yourself.
Indeed. The number of times people tried to pass me in my bus when I was negotiating a roundabout, I'm surprised I came away with as few bumps as I did over the years.
@@TestGearJunkie. Many years ago I witnessed a wagon trying to overtake a bus on a roundabout, and despite the best effort of the bus driver to make it a non event the wagon driver made it an event by blocking the road to make a point and holding everyone up 🤦♂️
Friendly reminder to treat everyone on the road like they've stolen it, uninsured and drunk. If you put yourself in harms way for the footage or prove a point you'll be shit out of luck if they fail to stop (or worse, they stop and you've wound up the wrong scrote and now you're tomorrows headline)
2:45 "Dear sir, thank you for the dashcam footage you sent to us and I'm writing to inform you that you are being prosecuted under section 89 of the Road Traffic Act for the offence of speeding..."
3:57 One thing you failed to notice is the white line markings after the roundabout. Not many remember that the longer white lines and short spaces mean stay in your lane until the hazard is over. The hazard in this case is on slip to the left. Notice the markings change at 4:22 The road rager in the black car could have got angry because your viewer didn't cross those markings. Rule 127: A broken white line. This marks the centre of the road. When this line lengthens and the gaps shorten, it means that there is a hazard ahead. Do not cross it unless you can see the road is clear and wish to overtake or turn off.
Genuinely amazing the amount of people that treat driving from A to B like its a race, usually going way too fast, not slowing when they should, and squeezing past as many other cars as possible to save a grand total of... 30 seconds on their journey time. Further, amazing in that last clip that people don't bother to look behind properly when reversing!
I wonder Ashley if you know about the last clip as to why the skoda superb was reversing as both took it reasonably wide for the hairpin to be able to clear any obstruction such as the dry stone wall to the left, also it did with the angle of the skoda as if they perhaps understeered right at the last minute as perhaps the reason why.
reguarding the clip at 3:58, that sort of thing happens all the time, people fly along that sliproad all the way to the roundabout at the end. The 30 mph speed limit at 5:00 was only put there in the last few years due to a bad crash on that turn in the dip
The first clip is in Truro. There are always accidents or near misses as drivers don’t follow their lanes around this roundabout. Every time I go down that road, I am on high alert as anytime someone would cut across you.
Same in most places where there are multi-lane roundabouts. Had a Volvo driver beep me today and aggressively tailgate because I followed the correct lane across the roundabout and he drifted into my lane! It wasn't a big issue, as I always try to stagger position, but he accelerated to close the gap. There are numpties everywhere.
At 1:54, I have to wonder what the other car's intention was, considering it started indicating left after the first exit...and then completely veered to the right as if to want to carry on around the roundabout. Perhaps it changed it's mind, which is why Ashley's advice to drive staggered is always wise, though granted not always possible in every situation. But it would have been possible here.
Maybe they didn't even realize they had their indicator on. It happens too often that people will drive for miles with their indicator on. Apparently some people just don't notice it at all.
0:38 I wish everyone just understood the benefits of driving in a staggered formation, especially on roundabouts. "In front, or behind, but never to the side" Just leave the gap in anticipation that the vehicle in front will cut you off. That way if they did make a sudden lane change, its a non issue with no damage.
Good comment 👍 And not just a staggered formation but refraining from passing another vehicle on a roundabout. It looks like the cammer was catching the other vehicle before the roundabout and looking to pass until the red vehicle slowed them down but then accelerated to pass them again assuming they would stay in their lane. As you sat, never be alongside another vehicle at critical points of a manoeuvre and entering or exiting a roundabout is a critical point
That first one is Truro, I do the roundabout a lot and people getting confused is a common thing despite the clear road markings that that lane is for both Malpas (second left) and for straight ahead. If the person who sent the clip is local, they should have known better
This revenge mentality has to stop on the road, it's just out of control now, the attitude, the vitriol - the whole thing is just plainly wrong and I'd truly wish it to STOP!
It's not just on the roads sadly. It's become more prevalent but people have always been this way. It just got corrected in the past, it no longer does.
At around 2:30, I was concerned our cammer was going to have another accident doing a U turn from the straight ahead lane and across the right turn lane.
Passing people on roundabouts is a bad idea, I think. So many drivers will cut across lanes, make late decisions to turn or just make a mistake. Hold back and don’t allow the situation to even be a possibility. Overtake when you’re back on the dual carriageway.
True that. I recently had such an incident where I was in the right (I 110% believe that) but was side swiped by a late/panicked lane change. But there were no witnesses and the other driver claimed that I made the lane change into them. Expensive lesson learned for me as it ended in split liability. I don't think the other driver learned anything, but hopefully her next accident won't involved anyone else or cause any injuries. For my part, I've become a bit more prepared for unexpected moves on round abouts.
First clip down in Truro is a nasty roundabout. So many people expect that inside lane to take the straight exit, rather than being one of the two that bends round following the main A39. If the viewer drives it regularly, he should definitely have taken more care in observing the car on his right. And nice to notice the clip started with the driver passing that blasted camera that caught me out! Well, I got done by the new upgrade that caught 3,000 other drivers in its first month last year. I used to live down there and was one my way back visiting my parents. Hold my hands up, I thought that stretch was a 40. Won't make that mistake again.
The clip from 5:40 is the east side of the Trafford centre, and as someone who lives in the area this junction is a nightmare for this style of behaviour! The nature of the double roundabout lane combined with the very steep sliproad puts people right on top of each other merging onto the M60 (often at speeds around 40mph). Most people take it in their stride, but quite a few insist on rushing through and attempting manoeuvres like we see here.
Closing the gap in front of you needs to be done way in advance of anyone trying to cut in. By the time the black car passed the cammer with the goal of getting in front, it's too late. By that point you're only creating more and more danger by attempting to close the gap. As for that overtake into the exit ramp... that's just silly. If you're going to be a jerk and do petty vindictive stuff like that, at least get a move on. It looks like he didn't even hit the speed limit.
6:50 is a joke. You should get points on your licence for drifting across multiple lanes to take an exit you presumably knew you'd be taking miles in advance. Absolutely no need it for it whatsoever and just endangers everybody in a 30 metre radius of you. £20 says he wasn't indicating either - they never do.
Taking it as an attack against yourself is my problem 😭 I’m still new so I am still building confidence, and it makes me frustrated when people believe they are entitled to force me to slow because they can’t drive competently. I’m working on it, but hearing that description was like looking into a mirror haha.
I'm guessing the driver in that last clip has a bit of a temper. "calm down, calm down, keep calm, keep calm, keep calm, keep calm, please keep calm, please keep calm" are not the words of someone who is confident in their partner's ability to control their emotions. They sound quite scared frankly
Maybe, maybe not. Maybe she panicks or is quick to judge others. I get this from others quite often when I've zero issues with control but it's the others that struggle with keeping their emotions in check. Just a thought.
The best driving advice I’ve ever been given is ‘always leave plenty of space around you’ - I think it came from my Granddad who was an excellent, and careful driver. Doesn’t mean I’m immune to a crash, I’ve had one in nearly 30 years of driving - that’s when I didn’t leave enough space around me! The other one is ‘always assume that everyone else on the road is a complete idiot’.
And I would also add that however careful you are, we all make mistakes and we might therefore be the one who "is a complete idiot" but if we drivers always leave enough space, there won't be a collision and we can then learn from our mistakes!
At 5:24 onwards, yes I think it's all to easy to take a "push in" as a personal attack. But remember, the other driver has no idea who you are, likely never met you before and will never meet you again...and in most cases, has no idea what you even look like. One "frivolous" exception in my case is that other drivers have likely figured out I'm Canadian due to several Canadian flags decorating the car, including an aerial flag. But even with that I don't take it personally!
Exactly and another reason not to start arguing as the other driver might be someone who has no self control so why cause yourself agro over an incident that ended up with nothing damaged nobody hurt. They will either realise they made a mistake or blame you but they certainly won't take advice. Leave it to self reflection, go on your way happy nothing happened. It is hard when it is a close call with that sudden shock but going postal is not going to help.
@@issigonis975 Totally agree with you for all the reasons you mention...and pretty much the approach I take. Interestingly because I don't react (no horn honk after the fact for example), I sense that in itself sometimes surprises the other driver and indeed other drivers around me.
sometimes i struggle to let in lane jumpers, on dual carriageways and motorways, because like you said, for some reason I feel attacked; I'd feel robbed of my patience. But it's nice to have that perspective from you Ashley.
I think for many people the "fight or flight" brain response is triggered and the hormonal rush can lead to a sense of being under personal attack, and to aggression, particularly in men. A natural response that has evolved to protect us from predators doesn't serve us well on the roads.
The M60 Trafford centre to carrington is a trip i do quite often and is very confusing especially with the multiple lanes ( 6:50 ish) i still barely know where to go just slow down and left people be
@ 1:26 I know this road and Junc. its the main road into Weymouth, its not well marked on the approach for new to the area drivers, I'm a Ex-trucky a few painted lines on the approach would halve the hazard(sings would add to that)I've only been through that junction 6/7 times but those junctions are all over the country, where a bit of signage could reduce collisions, I have one a mile away from home, It has 600yrds of signage and even locals get the lane positions wrong, But correct me if I'm wrong is road/lane position no longer taught ???
the last clip the Great Orme, Llandudno, North Wales? I know that area very well. I just went on google maps and found the place, the north shore, the road that goes around the Orme but the double bend is from the tudno church area
The issue might be the camera positioning, and where the wipers sweep. I ended up putting my dash cam to the right of the rearview mirror just so it is in an area swept by the wipers. Dash cams don’t perfectly capture what the drivers sees - different position, wide angle, doesn’t show out the side windows, higher up, more central, different brightness/contrast response, doesn’t blink…
Yes agree Ashley, these clips all show drivers who want to ensure they get some kind of payback / retribution to the other drivers. I think in the final clip the viewer was too close to the car in front on the hairpin bend, however the car reversing should have looked in the mirrors and a shoulder check , before reversing back into your viewer, so they are responsible for that collision in my eyes.
Honestly if I was that black Toyota at 6:40 I wouldn't have even remembered/noticed that the car overtaking was the one I slightly cut-off at a roundabout a few minutes ago. I would just assume it was an idiot missing their exit. A totally pointless exercise.
The last one looks like the descent from the Great Orme. It's very tight for cars that don't have a great lock. Given the car in from was an estate, it's very poor not to give it space, more so to not reverse when it's clear that it needs to have a second go.
That first clip is in Truro cornwall near me, it’s notorious for people not staying in their lanes, so like you say Ashley you drive a staggered formation and pre empt others bad driving
At 0:44, this situation of the vehicle in the right hand lane cutting across the path of another in the left hand lane when leaving a roundabout is such an "old horse chestnut" and we've seen this so many times now, it should be something we are all aware of. Also, the flip side is that if you are that car in the right hand lane and exiting a roundabout, make absolutely sure the left lane is clear if you intend to dive straight into it on exit. Otherwise, exit in the right hand lane and sort things out a little further down the road. Incidentally, in North America, it's a requirement to exit into the lane that's closest to you and not cut across in this fashion. For example, turning left at a set of lights into a multi-lane roadway.
Stuck in so many ways in the 1930's the Highway Code is also very much to blame. It gives no instruction whatsoever to drivers exiting multilane roundabouts or for that matter (as you point out) when turning in to multilane roads, or while I think about it, formalising priority at junctions.
3:45 Your viewer absolutely did know he was turning off there. He sped up the moment he passed the last camera gantry before the exit, knowing he would be able to speed because he was going to be leaving the section before the next camera.
1:37 is a pet peave of mine on roundabouts. There's no need for anyone in lane 2 to be cutting across the lane on entrance to straightline onto the roundabout heading to the apex of the corner. Just join at the same turning rate the lines are showing as you enter the roundabout. Currently learning to be a HGV driver so will need to even more vigilant of people corner/lane cutting from now on.
Can't see what you are describing. The black car on the left in lane 1 is doing what so many do now on roundabouts, turning right from the left lane. They are going round to the next turning after indicating they were pulling off. The cammer's mistake was believing the indication and not keeping a staggered formation, which might have allowed him time to avoid the idiot on the left.
The motorway clip has average speed cameras covering the speed restriction. I'd say the cammer decided to accelerate after he passed the last camera site on that section, knowing they were turning off.
That second to last video looks like it was cut short. The lane discipline entering the roundabout and just prior hint that they were still disciplining the other vehicle.
The first clip is interesting from my perspective as it is a road I use very offten, its on a downhill strech of 30 mph and very recently fitted with speed camera's, (the hi-tech yellow pole variety) In the first week of them being 'live', the saftety camera partnership caught nearly 1000 drivers breaking the limit on that particular road, alweays been 30 mph too! For some reason, it always seemed to be a race to the trafic lights at that roundabout and I suspect that the Nissan driver also has the 'must get in front' mentality due to there being a lorry in the left lane. Hopefully he/she will learn to slow down a little and stop driving like its a game of GTA.
The first video is the reason why when im in lane 2 of the roundabout, i exit the roundabout staying in lane 2, (then a couple seconds later when on the straight road move pver to lapne 1) if the road allows and never go straight into lane one.... but going into lane 1 is something ive seen Ashley himself recommended which i foind very strange, as because you're on a bend its easier to midd someone sitting in your blond spot
Like you say with the first two, staggered. In these situations, where I know a lot of people drive them badly and love to just cut lanes, I always either hang back behind them or just makes sure I'm in front of them enough that they can clearly see me. Don't drive in their blind spot as a lot of people are too lazy to turn their head or even look in their mirrors.
2:40 terrible driving by both drivers - but the cammer's speed is quite telling. theyre content with keeping up with the van at 50mph, until they speed up to 65 to take them over at the same time the van wants to switch lanes. as soon as he overtakes, he pulls back in front of the van he just overtook, and slows back down to 45! then he goes back to an average 50... until the van driver wants to move back in, and he speeds up to 55 again!
1st nissan micro clip: Not saying this is true of the viewer but a lot of people these days seem to prefer a collision just so they can say, _"I was right and you were in the wrong, therefore I'm better than you."_ There's also a bit of entitlement going on too, _"It was my space, why should I have to give it up?"_
At 3:05 onwards, that's an interesting one. For one thing, I'm amazed our cammer and the van didn't rub shoulders. There didn't seem enough room for that. The lanes were already narrow to begin with and the van was partially in the light hand lane! Fully agree with Ashley's analysis on this one. I would not consider climbing to 56-57 mph in a 50 limit with narrow lanes just to catch up and overtake someone. As per Ashley, should have just stuck to 50mph and moved to the middle lane. As for why the cammer decided to exit, who knows if they did indeed want that exit or did so just to let things calm down, which would actually be a good idea. And yes, I do feel something else happened leading up to this. I'm rather surprised the cammer submitted this to the police, given their own speed and manner of driving. I have heard of folks submitting dash cam footage against another driver...and being "done" for their own driving!
interestingly, I'm viewing this after driving the motorhome to the Idaho panhandle, and saw virtually nobody do the "must overtake the motorhome before my exit" maneuver that is so prevalent in US dashcam clips. even had a few people nicely make a gap when I needed to move over for construction and such. also saw a windmill blade making its way up the gorge. the new ones have a curved tip, which meant that on every right hand curve in the road, the tip took up the passing lane, and the pilot cars had to block so a shortsighted person didn't go for an overtake.
@@kenbrown2808 Ah yes Hello Ken. I'm playing catch up here and was out all day yesterday. Apologies for not replying to your other message about your upcoming road trip. So it's ID! @ibs5080 after a lot of shifts in schedule, we finally committed to MT to visit friends who just moved there, and mrs. K's mother. Just to clarify folks, although Ashley mentioned that some of these clips are from viewers who have been watching this channel for a long time, none of these clips are from me! TBH, if ever I submitted any clips of my own, I would actually want to own up to it & be identified, whether good or bad!

I think i only sent him a picture of why you don't drive too fast after a storm. A fire crew working to clear the road after a half dozen trees came down on it at night. And the white truck i sent you a picture of. Don't know if he got them he advertises a gmail for submissions, and gmail occasionally blocks my provider.
The first viewer is actually doing a good service for us all, teaching the Audi driver how to use roundabouts in an expensive lesson. The Audi has probably cut up 150 people like that before until this viewer comes along and both drivers meet their equal.
Honestly, people who cause crashes should have their license revoked for a period of time. Full of ego, lack of attention and endangering others, it’s just not acceptable.
If you look at the sentencing guidelines for motoring offences most of them include the option of a short disqualification. I'm surprised that magistrates only seem to use that option infrequently. I can't help thinking that a month's ban, even a couple of weeks, would have more of a salutary effect than a relatively small fine. Every time someone who was on a short ban couldn't use the car they'd be reminded why, while with a fine the pain is momentary and after paying it they don't have to think about the bad behaviour ever again.
2nd to last clip is insane. I get leaving the exit that late, if the entire first lane had a bunch of cars and no gaps and they felt that was the best course of action. However, they had a massive gap and instead chose to drive ridiculous and nearly miss the exit. How these people, record, then rewatch and send, all while thinking they are the unjust party is incredible.
That first driver seems to have some spatial awareness issues, maybe sticking with the Micra is the best plan for them? I would hate them to be in anything bigger.. The speeding motorist through the roadworks does baffle me though but as always with dashcam clips, there is always the mystery of what went on before the record button was used. Final clip, easy mistake to make by our camera car. The way his passenger tried to diffuse the situation could've saved this driver from being involved in a punch up as he must've been angry judging by the fear in the lady's voice. Great colleciton of clips as always.
Amongst other things, self awareness eludes the people who send in these videos. It confirms my belief that if you askk 100 people how they rate their driving, 99 would say it was good. Its an ego thing.
As a general rule, an advanced driver should expect poor and inattentive lane discipline on roundabouts from Nissans, Peugeots, large vans, the odd Dacia and some Volvos (though they're better than they used to be). They should expect aggressive lane changes from Audis (really any premium German hatchback), battered-looking Astras/Insignias and small vans. These little heuristics have been invaluable in avoiding many sideswipes over the years. 😊
The Nissan micro one was the typical bowl in to the situation I’m in the right type of attitude. Just slow down a little give space and then everyone will survive. No point being right if your dead
quite easily. We can't tell the age of the cars, but if damaged cost say £1500 to repair and the car is only worth £1000, then it's obviously a write off.
That very last clip, a genuine shame to have that happen with such beautiful scenery on such a lovely day too. But if the cammer had kept their distance and not closed it right down on such a tight left hand hairpin bend...and should also have realised that cars may need to reverse at any time. Then this would not have happened. As an aside, it looked like the white Skoda estate already had a minor bump on it's tailgate and although we have no idea as to the reason why, it's another reason to be more cautious about the driver. Could it be that they don't observe too well when reversing?
The Skoda driver is at fault for reversing into a stationary object, but the cammer is just a typical driver who blindly hangs off the arse of the car in front of them without any further observation whatsoever. They both deserve the consequences of the shunt in my opinion and I can only hope it makes them better drivers for it.
I think aggressive driving should start being punished. Because people seem to be purposely causing accidents. If they can't realise the road is shared then they shouldn't be driving.
in m state part of the punishment for aggressive driving is that if you had the opportunity to avoid a collision and made no effort to; you assume part of the liability,, regardless of whether you had priority. - which means if someone does an improper manueuver and you ram them to retaliate, you may find yourself paying for all damages.
Re what you say at 4:55. I was targeted by a bunch of pot heads in a probable stolen car, and I didn't do anything but beep when they almost changed lane right into me (and without indicating). Some people are just knobheads.
In the last clip, if your passenger instantly reacts with "calm down, calm down, calm down" then you are definitely a 🔔-end and should adjust your attitude on the road. Accidents happen, and they are usually the fault of both road users. Stay calm, take it on the chin, and learn how to avoid it happening again (unlike the Micra driver 😂)

@@northeastcyclist1507 likely because they would prefer people to not send anything in
Although the thing that clinched me getting a dashcam was the number of illegal e-scooter riders who kept trying, fortunately with no success, to throw themselves under my wheels, one of my principal reasons for getting one was being able to review my own driving. I still do rewatch my footage and while there have been no great revelations there have definitely been some, thankfully minor, "could have done that better" moments.

That "first" viewer seems concerned with people intruding into other lanes (and not slowing to accommodate), but the second clip shows them intruding into the left lane as they move onto the roundabout to turn right... They're doing the same thing as the people they have accidents with.

At 1:32, my immediate thought too re that they could do with a windscreen wipe as well!

@@JKK_85or too low…
@@stevenrix7024 Yes dashcams, phones, satnavs get mounted in loads of stupid places. Idk if it is but it should be an MOT failure.
Combine this with the obviously poor conditions and you are just asking for trouble
Plus don’t try and pass any vehicle already on a roundabout unless you are 100% sure it is safe or you can stop.

Yeah, I agree. She sounded absolutely terrified.

If you see roundabouts as an opportunity to overtake then that's the risk you take
This cannot be said often enough.
Many years ago I witnessed a wagon trying to overtake a bus on a roundabout, and despite the best effort of the bus driver to make it a non event the wagon driver made it an event by blocking the road to make a point and holding everyone up 🤦♂️
The important lesson is not to straightline roundabouts.
But it would have been possible here.
that and the advice that it's a roundabout, not a racetrack.
Good comment 👍
And not just a staggered formation but refraining from passing another vehicle on a roundabout.
@@54356776 Yes true, good point! 👍
Also some people seem to think you always want to race them after one overtake. 🤷
At around 2:30, I was concerned our cammer was going to have another accident doing a U turn from the straight ahead lane and across the right turn lane.
"Back off, just for a moment" is an alien concept to the must-get-ahead, can't-be-delayed-for-one-second drivers that flood our roads these days.
So true.
Is that last one the Great Orme?
thanks ash. always learning
Always!
Or maybe she was the driver and was shaken up and trying to calm herself down.
3:05 God knows what the van needs to change lane for anyway it needs to give signals in plenty of time as well.
Windscreen wipers are pricey, I do the same and try not to use them as much as possible
1:22 does he not have wipers?
Honestly if I was that black Toyota at 6:40 I wouldn't have even remembered/noticed that the car overtaking was the one I slightly cut-off at a roundabout a few minutes ago. I would just assume it was an idiot missing their exit. A totally pointless exercise.
The last one looks like the descent from the Great Orme. It's very tight for cars that don't have a great lock. Given the car in from was an estate, it's very poor not to give it space, more so to not reverse when it's clear that it needs to have a second go.
Does that Micra not have windscreen wipers?
Just came her to make that same comment, even went back to watch it to make sure, as soon as he passed the last camera he sped up.
I think the black Toyota may have also turned off there, too, judging by the way our cammer went in to lane 1 before changing their mind.
How did an accident like that (second Nissan micra) warrant the car getting written off?
Probably an old car with little value, so any repair would have cost more than paying out the value of the car.
I'd say the cammer decided to accelerate after he passed the last camera site on that section, knowing they were turning off.
how do i send you a video?
People usually upload the footage to Google Drive or similar to keep resolution and then send me a sharing link.
thanks @@ashley_neal
That second to last video looks like it was cut short. The lane discipline entering the roundabout and just prior hint that they were still disciplining the other vehicle.
Last clip is from the Great Orme Llandudno
First two clips .. typical Cornish driving abilities 😂 ive driven around that roundabout in truro and its a nightmare with stupid drivers
Yep glad I'm not the only one to notice that
@@gingernutpreacher haven't driven on it since roughly 2006 but by the looks of it, it's not changed 😂
Truro is a nightmare to drive in an out of. Even without the clueless tourists.
@@cupofcustard very true that mate but the locals aren't much better 😂
@holdenman8850 I know mate I live in Cornwall 😆
Gotta look over the shoulder, every roundabout.
6:32 the ice cream van's advice seems ironic given the behaviour of the dashcammer.
Yeah recently I have been thinking when the traffic is flowing any kind of overtake is dangerous on a roundabout.
A couple of these clips are frankly embarrasing! Im amazed people send them in but if they can learn from them, all the better.👍👍
So it's ID! Never been to that state but always wanted to visit there, as well CO & MT (aka Big Sky). Before you mentioned your destination, I was thinking maybe the Oregon Coast, Cannon Beach area. Hope you are having a great time, good weather and relatively traffic free.
@ibs5080 after a lot of shifts in schedule, we finally committed to MT to visit friends who just moved there, and mrs. K's mother. So yesterday's run turned into about 10 hours up to PDX and up the gorge, and across the lower right corner of washington. If tou do get the chance, on I-90 in Idaho, there is an artesian well, where a local made "Elmer's fountain" which is always interesting to catch sight of on the way by.
@@kenbrown2808 I will have a look at that. Thank You Ken. BTW, next flight back to my Vancouver homeland has been booked, though it's not for a while yet. Just to clarify folks, although Ashley mentioned that some of these clips are from viewers who have been watching this channel for a long time, none of these clips are from me! TBH, if ever I submitted any clips of my own, I would actually want to own up to it & be identified, whether good or bad!
Fair play, me too. Whenever I send clips in, I ask if he thinks I could have done anything differently.
I've sent a few clips in and have even offered to have him assess my driving as I have mental issues, but know I could always do a lot more to improve my driving. I've not had a reply but I guess he's busy.
Either way, I'm a fan of the channel and happy to own up to my mistakes.
The lady doth protest too loudly!
Only kidding, Ib!
@@cargy930 Ah Cargy. How goes it?
Nice video
@@ianmason. Indeed, and a ban will almost certainly have an effect on their next insurance premium.
Well, that was a bit tense!
Nice video, thanks Ashley.
Red mist rules, obviously. So much so that it has to be posted on this channel ASAP!
The Nissan micro one was the typical bowl in to the situation I’m in the right type of attitude. Just slow down a little give space and then everyone will survive. No point being right if your dead
Where was his horn on that last clip? It should have sounded as soon as the Skoda's reverse lights came on.
Never recognised a road in these videos. But today I recognise the first clip is in Truro
Does anyone in the UK use a indicator on the roundabouts
Cars are written off after just a slight bump?
quite easily. We can't tell the age of the cars, but if damaged cost say £1500 to repair and the car is only worth £1000, then it's obviously a write off.
With UlEZ zones and the push to EV's more cars will get written off as uneconomical to repair. Well before their CO2 Production/Use level is reached.
Definitely wasn't pot heads.
1st clip.
Should the cammer have backed off? Or should the Audi have maintained lane discipline?
Both.
