This game was pretty much Ps3 port for the F1 06 from Ps2 which kinda explains why the texture was flat. But the studio did a very excellent job and very competent on porting it to next gen console. (Looking at you Rockstar/GSG)

A lot of game mechanics from F1 06 was bought the championship edition (The physics, silly slow down penalty when corner cutting, the in game audio and commentary, the pit stop minigame, even sponsors at some track are the same). You could tell i was F1 06 fanboy back at the day Now the championship edition was released 8 months after the 06. At the time the PS3 mechanics are one of the most complicated to be made with. It wasn't nowdays where both XBOX and Sony uses AMD, back then Sony had their own hardware which gave a lot of studio quite of a headache because of the backward compatibility. There's no way the studio liverpool could make a whole new game within few months with such a complicated hardware. So yeah it was ported game, but it was done beautifully that we've seen it as a whole new game.

This game had more to do with F1 and it’s drivers than any of the codemasters from 2010-2018 which is incredible. I remember after getting bored of over 200hrs on f12012 regularly playing this over any of the other games up to 2012
It's still on PSN I think since you can still download the demo on PS3. If you're quick, you can still buy the game or the demo before Sony takes the store down.
this is what ive been saying for years. games need to start focusing on better gameplay and features rather than endless graphics improvement. games looked good enough for 10+ years now. wish F1 franchise focused on gameplay. the sport has such an immensely huge potential and 70 years of history to play with, if they cared about anything other than making the game that little bit flashier year after year. can you imagine an F1 game where you can play career mode on different decades, where you could live through a whole career as a racing driver throughout the years, play in iconic old races, teams? no, you probably cant because they would never bother despite bigger investments and sales in videogames than ever in history.

For example in 2010 you have adjustable front wing. In 2011 you have DRS And KERS. In 2012 you have a better handling model and more competition between teams, etc etc
I still play this game from time to time when I don’t feel like playing F1 21… It still looks very good considering it’s considered a “launch title” for the PS3.
A good trick to improve driving accuracy: push the left thumbstick all the way up and let it slide against the casing so you have a semi-circle of movement, instead of some nudging left or right
man, I loved this game. back then I always put myself in the back of the grid and use this game as a race start simulator. Starts in this game felt unreal
I still have my PS3 hooked up to a racing rig specifically for this game. Holds up well and is so much fun. Looks especially good running HDMI through the mCable Gaming Edition. To be honest, I play this game way more than any of the newer F1 games. Just personal preference of course, but the sense of speed, engine sounds and gameplay with a wheel are still amazing to this day. FFB is great too. When the game was first released, it did not have FFB. When the update came out and FFB was made available, it was like a new game again. For me, this is still the definitive F1 gaming experience even though it was released so many years ago. I hope everyone has fun playing it for many years to come.

Been playing this loads lately, it's so good, I love the original graphics from the broadcasts as well as being able to move the grid around at the start however you want, newer games just don't feel the same 😭

I played this game for hours! I remember waiting for the force Feedback (rumble) update. One of the best F1 titles back then. I still have it in my collection. I preferred playing with a wheel but you have great skills with the controller! Thanks
the detail when hitting the kerbs and accelerating you can hear the kerb sound accelerate too, it's a minor insignificant detail but it just blows my mind they thought about it in 06 and i swear it don't even exist in the current game
I don't know why but F1 CE somehow looks a lot better than current Codemasters games, and that makes me wonder what could've been if only Sony did 07, 08 and "big" 09 games.
I remember when the trailer for this was released at E3 (?). It really felt like the future of graphics was here and it couldn't get much better looking...

V6 don't have that sense of engine that will break everything
This game uses a really high FOV which gives it that sense of speed. You can turn the FOV up in most sims and it will give the same sense of speed.

In my opinion one of the few good uses of motion blur in racing games. It actually helps create a sense of speed.
