Ugh yeah, I hate how thanksgiving is even a holiday. My grandparents love it, and it’s an important family tradition every year, and I consistently feel like sh*t and hate myself every second of it. It’s literally a celebration of the one year that a fanatical English cult didn’t kill off the native people of the land they’d trespassed on, ONLY BECAUSE THEY WERE TOO DUMB TO SURVIVE THE WINTER WITHOUT THEM. Happy Thanksgiving everyone… yay…

I once made a Final Destination parody with my friends when we were like 14/15 and my character died because he mistook gasoline for Vaseline, rubbed it on his legs then ran so fast he set on fire. I think that film we made deserves more recognition than this one.

every year around thanksgiving I have to look up what that weird skin flap on a chicken/turkey is called, and usually I immediately forget it again. But this year I didn't. It's called a WADDLE (incredible)

i watched thankskilling when i was 6 years old, my cousins were like "do you like horror movies?" and i went "yeah of course!!!" and now im 21 years old and wont even think about getting within 50 feet of a turkey

Thanksgiving is something else. I realize the history of the day isn't something to be celebrated. So, I just treat it as a day to have a nice dinner & focus on what I'm thankful for. That's how my family treats it, with the modern definition of Thanksgiving. Coming together to celebrate situations & people we're grateful for.
Exactly. While it is perfectly understandable to point out that the historical origins of thanksgiving being horrible, people are insane for acting like people celebrating Thanksgiving in this day and age are "celebrating the genocide of indigenous people."

I watched the thankskilling movies with my family one thanksgiving because we were curious if they made thanksgiving horror movies. It was a wonderful way to spend the holiday. Thankskilling is kinda iconic in the horror genre.
As an european I genuinely don’t understand thanksgiving. Like coming together as a family and eating a big meal is just what you do on christmas. Why would you need another holiday for that and ad some genocide glorification?

Definitely has dubious and ahistorical roots but nobody but school kids celebrate it for that. Just a reason to get together and eat large amounts of food in colder months.
@@Takeninthelight you can try to make it as innocent as possible, but it was literally the celebration of the burning of a village as well as they made a tradition of killing as many turkeys as possible because the native American tribes of the area relied on them, just like when they got to the plains, they committed genocide against the bison in an effort to aid their genocide against native Americans

when i was in college some folks tried to start a bad-movie-watching club and this was the first one. god the pain of sitting through this movie and everyone in the room just shifting uncomfortably! it was the only meeting they ever had. i'm still scarred by it

Glad I finally found another hater of thanksgiving
just this year i had all my friends over for a thanksgiving & i was looking for a good bad movie & decided to put on thankskilling, we all love bad movies so it was a big hit lmfao
I mean, Thanksgiving isn't just celebrated in the United States and is tied to even older traditions of gratitude. Its actually even older than 400 years old (which is kinda interesting).
As for the pilgrims and native americans, it certainly is not celebrating genocide. The Wampanoags were allies with the pilgrims as both groups were having violent clashes with another tribe, the Narragansett tribe. There was another New England governor who declared a day of thanks after the Pequot War, but that was a separate affair than the pilgrims and native americans. I live in Oklahoma, and I know many Native Americans who celebrate thanksgiving.
I know im taking it overly serious, but a lot of people, including the non-religious (which includes me), appreciate a non-spiritual holiday where we give thanks for the boons of modern life. I actually think it's quite sweet.
Also, certainly not trying to diminish the unquestionable genocide of native americans that took place, but I don't think its fair to harsh people for celebrating a holiday whose whole point is being grateful for what you have. The real issue is Columbus Day, lol.
No, Thanksgiving is literally a day the pilgrims took to celebrate, burning, and committing genocide against the Pequot village and its people, many current Native American nations denounce the celebration of Thanksgiving, because of its genocidal origins. Just like the swastika, even though something is innocent, it doesn’t mean it cant be turned into something horrible, and the best thing to do is just leave it in the past, because of how harmful it can be. And marginalized people are capable of doing things that hurt them unknowingly, especially when theres a system created specifically to teach them to hurt and hate themselves.

Has the US done some pretty f'ed-up things to natives during its history? Yes. Is the national celebration of Thanksgiving a codified celebration of genocide? No.

I thought this might be about the Eli Roth one, I’d never seen it. Something fun about that one, when Quentin Tarantino came out with grindhouse (double feature, 2007), they played a trailer for the thanksgiving horror film in between movies. Eli Roth worked on grindhouse too, so it makes sense. Machete was a trailer in it also, before Machete came out. I don’t think they were real films then, I think they were just trailers for the film experience. (the trailers were in the actual film. They weren’t actual movie trailers, as I never saw it in theatres)

Fun fact! Somewhere in, like, 2008-2010 in the wild-west days of streaming, this movie was just. Fully On Netflix. My sister, our neighbor and I (all in middle school at the time) were looking for a Thanksgiving movie, and it was the only one we could find at the time. We made it to "Nice tits, bitch!" before shutting it off in complete horror. Literally changed the trajectory of our lives--we all still talk about it lol
I'm cracking up imagining three kids tense and uncomfortable, just hoping that the pilgrim having her boobs out was an artistic choice, and then lunging for the remote as soon as that iconic line is said.

I also remember my sister scrabbling to shut it off in a blind terror as our VERY christian dad was sitting in the next room, but we were watching it using one of those Wii Netflix discs, and the wiimote wouldn't sync with the censor ;_;. We spent the rest of Thanksgiving break watching 5-10 minutes of ANYTHING, just to push Thankskilling far enough back in our history where our dad wouldn't come across it sdfghjk

Ifk anyone who actually celebrated Thanksgiving as a holiday for the pilgrims. Its more like a day we all(most of us at least) get a day off, eat a fuk ton of food or the foods you really love, sleep, eat some more, some spend it with friends and family or one of the two, maybe watch games(if you are into that) and then sleep some more. My parents did the thankful thing at times, but only when mom was sentimentality because we were getting older. Now she spends it at her sisters place and I spend it with my friends.
Not to mention like the other holidays is was made up. Idk which president either washington or Lincion did it to get fmailies together and share a meal during hard times. The Pilgrims came after.
