Installing a new RADIATOR on the 100 series Land Cruiser

  • With 220k miles on the original radiator, it was starting to show signs of weakness. I hope this video helps others tackle this project too - although a slightly more involved install, I'd say its very doable with moderate skill.
    Not all of the parts below are required to replace the radiator - in particular, the Fan Clutch, Fan Blade, and Fan Shroud can be skipped.

    I was literally about to start working on replacing my radiator before I went "Well let me go back inside to check youtube one last time before I start this" and saw you had just uploaded a video covering the exact thing. Great video as always cheers

      Wish I had replaced the hoses at the same time. After I got er all buttoned up it started leaking again this time from the hoses. New radiator and new hoses and no leaks! 200k on mine

    Great vid, thanks! I was able to leave the fan and shroud in place and slip the radiator out. That whole apparatus is pretty fiddly and I didn't want to deal with it :)

      Thanks, Richard - much appreciated! Agree on the new hardware. A few jobs now nuts/bolts have been in rough shape and it's frustrating to find out you need one mid-project. PartSouq has such great prices, it's hard not to grab the 'em.

    Your videos are amazing - can't thank you enough for the time/effort you've put into them all. I hope you come back with parts # additions as with your other videos.
    I've got a 2006 LC100 as well, have gotten P0128 code thrown intermittently (thermostat), and truck seems to take too long to warm up - suspect it's stuck open and have it on list to replace soon!
    Question: How many miles on your truck and what made you replace your radiator?

      Thanks for the comment - I appreciate that! Yessir I'll be sure to add all the part numbers to this video as well.
      I've got 220k on my '06 and purchased it two years ago with 165k. During the pre-purchase inspection, the tech noted some stress marks (faint cracking) beginning to occur along the top of the radiator, so that's been on my mind. Also last summer when climbing some steep mountains I had an instance of overheating which made me decide it was time :)

    Holy smokes. Just found this channel and it is impressively well done. Btw, brand coolant did you use? Do you have use Toyota OEM coolant?

      Thank you! For coolant I went with Toyota brand pink coolant. I believe there are two coolant types (red and pink) depending on your model year 👍

      I just topped off with a lets just say a primary red colour ...pink/red...don't know. Now I'm worried I have put the wrong colour and can't find any definitive answer. @@LandCruiserDIY

    How you doing... Just wandering what are the sizes of the inlet and outlet oil coolant hosses that connect to the bottom of the radiator, cause mine doesn't look like the right size . I have a 2006 LC can't get the hosses all the way in to the connector they are kind of small diametter hose .. Thanks

    For those of us whose coolant pre-replacement isn't in as good of shape, it's worthwhile to do a proper flush before removing the old radiator to clear out any junk before installing the new one.

    Hi, first of all tnx for the useful videos, I have a question about my 2007 100 series , I bought it recently and it is in good condition but I heard radiator fan clutch all the time after 3000 rpm its get better , I changed it but nothings have changed, is it normal?

      Thanks, Faraz! Are you sure it’s the fan clutch? If you’re still hearing sounds, try checking the belt tensioner for proper tension and the belt itself. These sorts of problems are great to search around ih8mud to see what others have tried too.

      thanks a lot , actually I changed time belt an water pomp recently and check tensioner too , all of them was fine but still heard the fan clutch noise all the time, actually fan clutch reduce power and increse fuel consumption, recently i’m thinking about pulling out the fan clutch and put electrinoc fan in there but i’m not sure yet😅

    Can I do this without removing the Fan? I am a small time DIYer and want to remove things only if they are necessary! Thanks

      Honestly I think you’d have a harder time working around the fan than removing it (if it’s even possible). The fan is actually pretty easy to take off, but definitely get the tool to hold the fluid coupling to make life a little easier. I have faith in you, Mark - you can do it!
