Gils cousin Wes R. was in my auto class in high school in Kitchener, Ont.
Wes used to tell me about the early Triumph practices, and he talked about his uncle Herb Moore and Gils love of T-Birds.
I was an aspiring guitar player back then, and I "worshipped " Rik.
I've met him several times, and he's a nice, humble guy.
Anyhow, the first time I saw Triumph was at Forest Heights Collegiate in Kitchener shortly after Rock and Roll Machine was released and then an outdoor concert at Bingeman Park, Kitchener.
There were 2 opening acts, Starchild and Moxy. Mike Reno was the singer for Moxy.
Seen Triumph at The Aud. as well. Still have my ticket stubs.
I work for an engineering firm, and we were doing some work directly in front of Gils house in Mississauga.
Some guys were telling me that there is a hotshot musician living in that one house.
Well, I knew immediately that it must be Gil Moore, seeing as I was a Triumph fan in my teens and I knew about Metalworks.
Sure enough, Gil drives out in his Cadillac Escalade.
I nodded at him, but I could tell that he knew that I recognized him even though no words were exchanged.
A short while later, he returned, so a few of us were chatting with him as he sat in his car.
I really wanted to open up about some Triumph questions, etc., but I was in the company of engineers, so I had to keep it professional.
Thanks for letting me yammer on and thanx Gil for all the great music and great times in my youth.

Gil is one of my earliest influences to begin playing drums. His voice on the kit is monstrous and his drums sound so good….plus his groove is wider than a canyon. Nobody plays or sings it like Gil Moore. ❤️

That hitch in his voice when Gil said, "He drove me to hockey practice at 5 in the morning...". That's real and I totally feel it. Thanks!

We Saw Triumph in 1986 at the Toledo Sports Arena, I remember knowing They were on a different musical level and we were pretty young. Plus his Drum Kit was the BOMB!

I was at that concert. Then again, at that point, I was a groupie, following Triumph around a 4-state area. I saw them about fifteen times and they were the best because Rik Emmett's voice and the band's sound were authentic to their albums. Plus, Triumph had the best light show on God's Earth.

Nice to hear from Gil. Have heard plenty of interviews with Rik and even a few with Mike, but not many with Gil. Was always a big fan as a drumming singer myself. Seems like a great guy. Went to a few Triumph concerts in the mid-late 80’s. Absolutely phenomenal shows!

Thanks for this interview with Gil. I never knew until the documentary and this interview how close he was to his mom and dad and how much they were integral to his success. The man was blessed with great parents who let his teen band practice in the living room! The fact the the trio patched up their feud and are now spending their last years as friends does my heart good. Wish some other well known bands could take a page from them!

I was blessed to be a teenager in San Antonio and our local station was one of the early stations playing Triumph. I still think they are one of the best bands and are highly underrated.
Gil was a big influence on my drumming. He has a signature drum fill where he starts with a single stroke roll and transitions into a 16th note triplet. Beautiful!!!

Two bands I appretiate unconditionally are TRIUMPH and RUSH. Reason being, POWER TRIOS. Neil is a fantastic drummer but he doesn't play the kit and sing. I have relatives in Newcastle N.B. I saw "ROCK N ROLL MACHINE" in Saint John N.B. I saw "THUNDER SEVEN " in Fredericton N.B. Absolutely fucking awesome. I am a drummer and I know the reason I love this band.

Triumph was my favourite band as a teenager. Still remember first time hearing New York City Streets blaring from by friend's older brothers car stereo and instantly being hooked. I only saw them once live and unfortunately at the Centre in the Square in Kitchener. The sound guys did not get the quality of the acoustics in that place and the vocals were completely distorted. My wife saw them in Detroit, and said it was the best concert she ever saw!!!

I went to see triumph in Lansing in 1985 and unfortunately Rick Emmett was sick with food poisoning or something the show got delayed for like an hour and a half. And Rick was never able to play. They had Ted Nugent come in and and play with bad company which was the opening band. Which kind of made sense because Ted doesn't live that far from Lansing, Jackson's like a half hour away and he had previously worked with Brian Howe who was at that time bad companies lead singer. At the time I was really bummed cuz I love Riks songs and voice and I'm a guitar player too. I always wondered if he really was out with food poisoning or the band had some internal conflicts that built to a fever point at that time. Gill wound up doing a pretty good show it was definitely shorter than normal and they had Santers play guitar so I think what they must have done is sort of figure out backstage if they had enough material to do a show as opposed to give a refund and reschedule or something. The most striking memory though about that show was how the instant they started playing tears in the rain with the first chords from the guitar it was so much louder than bad company and it made the eyeballs rattling shake in my eye sockets and that combined with the laser 3D thing they were doing, I turned to the guy I was with and I told him they just blew bad company away with the first chord lol :-). That would have been the sport of Kings tour
