15 Canadian Musicians Who Owned Canada in 1974
In 1974, Canadian bands made a significant impact on the music charts with several memorable hits. Bachman-Turner Overdrive (BTO) dominated the airwaves with their rock anthem "You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet," which became a massive hit both in Canada and internationally. The Guess Who, although nearing the end of their original lineup, still made waves with "Clap for the Wolfman," a tribute to the famous DJ Wolfman Jack, which enjoyed considerable success. April Wine released "I'm on Fire for You Baby," which helped solidify their presence in the Canadian rock scene. The Stampeders continued to charm audiences with "Ramona," a track that showcased their signature blend of rock and country influences. These songs highlight the diversity and strength of Canadian music in 1974, making it a standout year for the nation's bands.

Loved 80% of this list! I usually spent my allowance on vinyl, and still have some of those albums, but I'd be happy to never hear "Seasons in the Sun" ever again. I kind of drifted away from Canadian Music by '75 or '76 until the latter half of the 80's when Blue Rodeo, Colin James, and Big Sugar emerged. I really miss the diversity of music back then when radio played all kinds of music genres. That, and older sibling/cousins meant I developed a very eclectic taste on music at a very young age.

Damn, I hate to hear that Randy is "anti-vax" and supported the "truckers" protest. (Or, did I hear correctly what he was saying?) Randy Bachman has been my hero since I was a kid! And, still is! (But, I'm so "concerned" by that moment in this interview.) Oh well, Political/social vs. science. IDK

I was a young boy 👦 then. I heard of Anne Murray, the late Gordon Lightfoot, Paul Anka, BTO, The GuessWho then. I saw 👀 the Jagged Little Pill 💊 album here. Alanis Morissette turned 50 on 1 June 2024. How about covering year 1984? 40 years! 🎂

"Rock Me Gently" was huge in 1974. I prefer the 70s songs from April Wine - a great era and year (1974) for them. "Seasons in the Sun" really did own AM radio in 1974! Joni was such a treasure -still is. When I think of the summer of 1974 - I can't help but think of "Sundown" by Gordon Lightfoot. No surprise seeing BTO in the #1 spot! They managed to capture an AM & FM audience. Great Top 20 list. Thanks for posting.

Lighthouse was a big band down in St. Louis where I grew up. Their song, One Fine Day, was used as the opening music for KSHE 95 Real Rock Radio. This station played a lot of Canadian Rock I never knew was Canadian until I moved to Toronto, Canada in 1984. There were the huge bands we all knew were Canadian, like Rush, Lightfoot, Guess Who, etc, but some more obscure, smaller bands I first heard in St. Louis were Saga, Moxy, Trooper, Max Webster, Frozen Ghost and Red Rider. So thumbs up to Djs who used to have the free rein to bring fresh, new music to their listeners.

1974, I was 15, and had a lot these albums, and had Paul Anka on some K-Tel albums, happy you mentioned that bands like April Wine and the Stampeders toured every town and village in Canada with no sponsorship, great video John, great to educate the younger fans what we had back than, again great video, thankyou for the trip down memory lane.
