Ruckus says so many out-of-pocket things but at the end of the day, he's severelly mentally and emotionally unwell. I think Robert knows this and, even though he's beyond annoyed at him, wants to be a positive influence.
Really love how the joke is that Ruckus still thinks that black people live as a stereotype, yet all the black people around him are just doing very normal things; reading books, playing videogames, going to the park. once again proving that Boondocks is actually a very intelligent show
He nailed the "next Madden" and "sneakers" stereotype, though. I grew up in the ghetto and holy moly he's not entirely wrong. I think both Malcom X and MLK would be ashamed to see where we are right now. What I find most ironic, is that the BET that helped perpetuate this self-slavery mindset, has their watermark on this vid, which is from a cartoon that aims to do the opposite.

It was a great show. Unfortunately racial humor is much to taboo right now. Maybe one day we can get back to being able to laugh with each other about our faults. Nothing wrong with a good ribbing as long as there is no true malice.
I wonder if at some point throughout making even the first episode they realized that they were making one of the greatest shows of all time or not until after it had been over and off the air for a bit they realized it looking back?
If you don't already know, it started out as a comic strip way back in like '99-'00. So for it to go from that to TV, I'm confidant the creators knew they had something special.

He doesn't hate the skin, he hates the culture the skin is related to. And considering his upbringing, the hate is more psychologically traumatic than self hate.
Yeah because in one episode explains about Uncle Ruckuses past and shows the reason why he hates black people is because his father was very abusive to him and his brothers; plus in return Ruckuses father hated white people. But I'm sure you already know the episode I'm talking about.
I actually cried when they revealed Ruckus's backstory. Not that it excuses his comments but he's just as much a victim of prejudice as those he belittles.
He has a hard time accepting the fact of the matter... Yet he became what he feared most. I think they just use him to say what we are all thinking in a way that does not get the creator of the show canceled. Pure Genius. The only way to ground these messages from God.

Huey the revolutionary and his best friend from Chicago represent the social activism and hoteps. Riley represents urban youth. Grandad represents the older generation and a vanguard of his era despite him having no involvement. Tom Dubois and Ruckus are very similar characters but they choose to go about their disdain for blackness in a different way. Tom believes he can be successful enough to evade racism and marrying a white woman will absolve him of racism. Ruckus on the other hand rejects his blackness entirely and works against anything black. When he is confronted with the undeniable truth of him being black he cannot help but to think of himself as a lesser being. He believes because he is black he is incapable of doing anything right. He believe he must become a lumpen through and through out of spite of him being black. In this regard he is also partially similar to Riley
Probably my #1 fave animated series, including S-tier anime and classics like Frisky Dingo and Archer. Brilliant writing, brilliant animation and superb voice acting from a team of actors and comics that had little or no grounding in it, A masterpiece that cannot be recreated.

I learned from someone that one of the biggest problems black folks face, is a destroyed sense of self-worth, and this highlights that to me. Here Ruckus lost his self-worth and decided he had to live like it, be jobless and drink liquor, etc, just like some black folks really do. When he thinks he's white, he feels valuable and like what he does matters. The others don't think that way, they know they are valuable and that what they do is meaningful, regardless of skin color or culture. This is real life, and it's awful and very complicated, and this show masterfully illustrates it and actually manages you laugh as you learn. It's incredible!
i had to write this down. i liked that, it describes in a healthy way and honest way what i've been trying to articulate about black people and the perception that people see black people in particularly certain areas of america, particular because of the greater population of black people.
