I remember that I played the hell outta this game in my school years. I really loved it despite of how bad the story was. Yeah, it is very hard game to complete and controls sucks but locations and npc interactions are good. I tried to make fan fiction about this game starting ICB2 sequel where John Cord lives happy life with Chi-Ling and Alex but Alpha becomes the main villian and kidnaps them and sends secret agents against him. You would start somewhere in apartment sitting restrained on chair while evil agent wants to headshot you while saying bad jokes. I never played PC version of this game so I was surprised that you can see dialogs over their heads.
@@FairuzAlBahr I think it was puzzle with several paths. When an ennemy is "freezing" you with a gun, you can "use" the towel (the only piece of clothe on you) to surprise him ;) funny
I have not played this but just from the parts that you showed, it seems to have a very British culture to the writting. My guess is that it just didn't click with you, but I'd hazard a guess that a British person of a certain age might very much like the writting. I personally found the bits you showed endearing
Great review! The game however is not as bad as you make it sound, the combat is bad sure, but it's still fun to play, some of the issues you mentioned are not present on the original PS1 version, as a matter of fact it doesn't have shiny items for example. One of the reasons why the game has bad animations for the 3D models is mostly due to the fact that on PS1 there's not much free RAM (you can use about 2MB + 1MB of VRAM, for texture\images data), almost one MB of RAM is used for the main executable, the rest for the models, music, sounds, and backgrounds (when needed), while voices are actually streamed of the CD, so they saved space in making animations that do not have that many frames. Also, surprisingly, the Italian version dub is 100 times better than the English one, it has also different jokes.
@Neil Neil It does not, compare these two videos watch?v=Ol6OqL7efxE (0:01) and 14:19 of this review, it's also the same in my incomplete playthrough on my TH-cam channel.
@Neil Neil Okay I found out that the shiny items were added in the later releases, NTSC- U for PS1 and PC versions, so the PAL versions are the only ones without it.
The graphics are insane especially the PC version ( the backgrounds are natively rendered at 480p ) with some alomost seemless FMV sequences. However, while the story is great for an espionage spy fiction game standards the framerate is abysmal like the game is hard locked at 14 fps no matter how powerful your rig is, also collision detection can be awkward at times like sometimes when I try to interact with a certain object, the games confuses it with a different spot and John interacts with the door instead for example.
Loved it. Was used to tank controls thanks to RE and had no problems. Story was great and i really liked the main character. Voice acting reminded me of BS1 and BS2. Now the Road to El Dorado...that's a different story. That game sucked. By far Revolution's worst game ever.
That was the style before everything went copycat on Cyberpunk & Steampunk. Vaguely reminded of Flashback 2 or Precognition - An Erica Reed Thriller (Adventure game, modern).
LOL this games voice acting is hilarious. surprisingly i never knew about this game until now and its a shame about the games problems i tend to have a soft spot for those early adventure games and especially the ones with pre-rendered graphics
I never played this game before reviewing it, and I was genuinely excited to play it, but it was such a disappointment. Though I would like to point out that the controls on PS1 are (slightly) better.
Sorry, I don't agree. I think this game is the last classic to come out from Revolution, even the atmosphere of the game is worth playing. After this game, they released disappoint games such as Broken Sword 3 and especially 4.
3 and 4 are definitely disappointments, but I still genuinely disliked this one. I had zero fun with it. I will admit that there are parts of the game which had a good atmosphere. Also, if you haven't yet, check out Broken Sword 5 and Beyond A Steel Sky. I think they're both quite good.
Didn't even get as far as you but ended up abandoning this, just didn't hold my interest. El Dorado looks fun though! Would like to watch your Broken Sword videos but tbh I haven't played them all so should probably do that first!
Yeah, I highly recommend playing them before watching my videos, since most of my videos are very spoilery. Though if you want my honest opinion, I'd say Broken Sword 3 can be skipped. It's really not a good game. Broken Sword 4 is not that great either, but it's playable, at least.
It's a hard game to complete, it has many faults and not one of my favourite games. The only reason for your ultra negative review is because your salty for not being able to complete it ;). While I did complete it, I can agree with you, Cold Blood was shit! You talk a lot about Resident Evil, but as an original PS1 owner, I would have to say Silent Hill on the original PS1 was better then Resident Evil on the PS1, even though Resident Evil turned out to be one of my favourite gaming franchise.
I also prefer Silent Hill over Resident Evil, however, this game resembles Resident Evil a lot more than it does Silent Hill, which is why I focused on Resident Evil that much.
Man, I should have checked out some reviews before buying this game. I just spent 50 minutes and got to some basement level of the first mission, and it's god awful. The tank controls are just horrendous, and I had to resort to a walkthrough to see what the fuck I was supposed to do, as the game keybindings weren't all in the options section. You're left to figure out that you can actually pull out a gun and shoot, or crawl or punch things, and hack into terminals by way of just rolling your face across the keyboard and hope you find out some new ability. It was just goddamn bad.
The funny thing is that this is one of my favorite games
atmosphere was great tbh
In a lot of parts, yes I agree. In some, though, it felt a bit generic.
allways seen as a flawd gem
This game's great. Loved it back in the days.
I'm glad you enjoyed it. I wish I did. It had its moments, but I just couldn't handle its controls anymore.

Best game ever , I still playing it without cheating to finish it with my self only
This game was a good time as a teen I even reinstalled it a few times but finishing it is tricky.
😍 i love this game
It something special for me.
I have such good memories of fear effect. The towel puzzle for a teenage boy.... 😍😍😍😍
I don't remember that puzzle, but I do remember loving the game. Might even cover it on my channel some day.

To each their own, but I wonder why it wouldn't click with me, seeing how I grew up on British humor and TV.
@@FairuzAlBahr Certain types of British humor don't export well traditionally. Maybe that is something to do with it

Agree to disagree, then.

I remember the PSX mags talked about this game a lot before its release then silence.

Most likely.
Never heard of this game but its interesting its from ubisoft.
