- Militärmarsch Preußens Gloria (prussia glory march)
Preußens Gloria ist ein berühmter preußischer Marsch des 19. Jahrhunderts. Komponist war Musikdirektor Johann Gottfried Piefke (18151884) vom 1. Brandenburgischen Leibgrenadierregiment Nr. 8 in Frankfurt an der Oder.
Preußens Gloria is a well-known military march of the 19th century. Its composer was Johann Gottfried Piefke (1817-1884).
"Preußens Gloria" ("The Glory of Prussia" or "Prussia's Glory") was written in 1871 after the Kingdom of Prussia's victory in the Franco-Prussian War, which led to the unification of Germany. For the victory parade of the returned troops the march was performed for the first time in public in Frankfurt (Oder), the base of Piefke's garrison.
As Piefke only performed it on important occasions, the march was unknown to a broader public for a long time. In 1909 the manuscript of the almost forgotten tune turned up and was reworked by army-musical inspector Prof. Grawert. Shortly afterwards it was included in the collection of Prussian army marches.

There is a seven-part documentary series on WWI that I believe is Canadian-made that is aired regularly here in the States on the American Heroes Channel, and at the end of the first episode as the credits roll, they played this march. It's a very catchy tune and I always wondered what the title of the march was and its origin. I began searching TH-cam trying to find the tune and after some frustrating searching, I finally found it. For the record, I thought the march was German when in actuality, it's Prussian. At least I was close. Thanks for the upload.

I consider him (alongside Napoleon) on of the biggest villains of 19th century Europe. He forced German lands into unity under Prussian rule (even if they rebranded Prussia to Germany), sometimes militarily, sometimes diplomatically but with a lot of threats of military aggression. Even today, places like Bavaria are mostly staying as a part of Germany due to inertia rather than any real desire. He should not be seen as a hero.
