Good team. Eating a possum reminded me of a fellow soldier who'd grown up very country poor.
We'd just pulled into a liquor store... & he whipped out his pocket knife to dig a penny out of the hot tar of the parking lot. He grinningly held it up for me to see & declared with all honesty - you know... the feller who'd seen, and walked over this here penny, and didn't pick it up... never had to eat a possum or armadiller in his entire life! 72518

@@lylianx4209 In germany we have a saying: Wer den Pfennig nicht ehrt, ist des Taler nicht Wert. To be honest, i dont know if it makes sense for you if i translate it, but here it is: A person who doesnt honor the penny, is not worth the talers. Or: A penny saved is a penny gained. Or: Take care of the pence and the pounds will take care of themselves.

In Scotland we just burned the wool off sheep heads with a red hot fire poker or a blacksmith's torch. No need to get it wet before singeing. One additional step involved soaking it in cold water overnight before scrubbing the burnt wool off.

    Finally got time to watch👍
    Spit roasting is tricky
Here's a tip. When open flame cooking don't add spices until final ten minutes. Spices will draw out all moisture and fat if applied before hand. Another thing is maybe pack cavity with prickly pads to add moisture and steam to the meat as it cooks . I'm not speaking blindly either 👍
    Great job

Cactus pads are delicious. I'm surprised you are passing them up and there are so many of them threre. They are great pickled or stir fried and are much better than green beans. Milder flavor and not as slimy if you cook it right. The cactus fruit are far tastier when they're red and ripe. They are a natural source of anti inflammatory juice. Look up nopales to find recipes for those cactus pads.

I have been enjoying a lot of your videos. The biggest thing I have learned by watching is that "in a survival situation" there is no time for being squeamish, lazy, or picky about what you eat. I suppose while society lingers on you can have your choice cuts and simplicity but would prefer the world be more efficient, less wasteful and to be more self reliant. I'm in my mid twenties, looking to expand my passion for the outdoors. Your videos are very educational as far as cleaning animals for cooking and wild plants, also I enjoy how you take into consideration energy needed to harvest certain foods and the energy received from them. I was in the Boy Scouts when I was younger and one of my most memorable trips was to the Boundary water just over the boarder of northern Minnesota, it was a seven day canoe trip, pack in pack out, hope to do it again some day. lately I have been doing little hike and cooks and day floats on the river, looking to get more into hunting and fishing. Thanks for all your effort to share your knowledge and experience.

I can't believe how unfriendly TH-cam is to channels that just show an example of the human experience going back to the early species of hominids. You can have a typical cooking channel where you prepare meat that's already been butchered, but the moment you hunt and clean one yourself you're deemed advertiser unfriendly. Another channel I like called Forgotten Weapons has a dude simply showing off historical firearms, taking them apart and explaining their circumstance, and that channel also experiences negative feedback from TH-cam.
It's real fucked up that any channel that has anything to do with something political or have to do with a weapon, even safety videos, is shunned from the platform. I mean, Townsend and Sons is an extremely tame and wholesome channel about 18th Century living and it experiences the same thing.

I don't have a problem eating different critters not normally eaten but I don't think I could take the cold congealed fat on top of the stew. My hats off to you !

We have a terrible problem with possum in NZ. Huge. People used to eat them. Now they are exported. The fur is beautiful. I would love to try it

You know, I was a once a month camping Boy Scout, My family camped in the Pocono Mountains from the time I was in diapers. Aside from the Boy Scouts, I grew up camping, hunting, and fishing on the James River in Virginia, ... but I never, never NEVER once though about using a limb cutter for clean cutting large branches. I'll never go camping without one again!

Nah, dawg. I'm not from TX, but if you ask me, those cactus tuna are solely survival food. Maybe they would work as a thickener, similar to okra, But no one voluntarily lives on okra alone either. I'm loving this series, btw.
