For someone that’s not a professional window tint installer you have a steady hand and seem very confront-able handling film. You could definitely do this for a living.
This video answered every question I had especially when you explained why the sides curve down because it's a straight piece of tint. I just can't stand when it's not a straight line across. Thank you so much for making this video I'll be using it as my guide.
Best tent video on the whole internet!! And the trick on shaping the tent first and the Scotch tape trick on pulling it apart made it so much easier to do nobody else tells that secret thanks a lot now they're tinted finally after I done ruin one roll because nobody tells their tricks
Honestly the best tutorial I’ve seen ! I’ve seen about 4-5 and was still left with questions. Absolutely love how informative this video is, great job! And thank you!
Of all the sun strip installation videos I've watched, this is the only one that solves the "sad" looking strip where the sides droops down, and hes not even a professional tinter! 👍👍👍
Wow looks good you make it look easy! Gonna try this with some tint from Walmart lol. I actually had a tint "professional" do my visor tint and it was ugly! It was like a upside down smile. They where lazy and did not cut around the mirror part.
Silly question probably, when you first lay the tint down on the outside of the window, what side of the tint should you have facing up? The actual tint itself or the piece you peel off and throw away? I know what side you need to stick to the glass once you're done, just not sure about when youre doing the prep and cutting.
I'm so glad you showed how to make the bottom curve match the curve of the roofline. It seems to be the norm for tint shops to make the outer edges sloping downward which looks terrible in my opinion. Installers who do that may be good installers but they don't have an eye for aesthetics.
Thank you for this I’m actually gonna start a tinting business to help out my husband. He changes or repairs the windshields and needs a tint person which I think works out great for the both of us and our businesses!
Great video. What film thickness would you recommend? I failed 2 times using 1 mil, as I got a lot of creases and kinks just handling the film. Would 4 mil be noticably easier to work with?
Will this keep car cooler during summer at all? Seems this is what i want bc it would keep my visibility good at night- im too scared to tint all the front but want to somehow keep car cooler.
Awesome, make simple diy! I would venture the following which may be very helpful. Caution, keep areas wet at all times. Ensure the film’s appropriate side is used, as the tear off/ throw away section must always be at the top when making/cutting out template outside of your vehicle. Before the instal inside, ensure again that it contours to your windshield outside with the discard side at the top before attempting the inside.
Guys don't go too dark, or else you won't be able to see the stop light easily. I made that mistake and had to go lighter shade. Could never see the stop light turn green.
Great video, I thumbs up! Only thing I wish you would've clarified for us complete noobs is which side of the film you were cutting when it was on the outside of the windshield because that makes a difference
My car failed an inspection because it goes below the AS-1 line. I didn't install the tint, the previous owner did. Would it be a bad idea to try to trim it down? Or should I just take it all off? I was tempted to try and trim it first, but worry about scratching the glass.
Don't bother trimming it. You will end up scratching the windshield and old glue will be stuck on. It's a mess. Take it to a tint shop and have them remove it and reinstall a new one.
The 2nd cut is my final cut on my 04 pilot. My windshield doesn’t have the black out line stuff. He makes it look to easy. Lot harder than it looks. Must have step stool
To avoid scratching the glass, always use a new stainless steel blade & proper angle holding of blade (about 20 degrees) and applying the right amount of pressure. You need to practice to do it properly.
When it comes to not scratching the glass, it's recommended you use a new blade that is stainless steel or carbon steel with smooth and polished edge. These blades have a reduced risk of scratching the glass surface during cutting. Also you should hold the knife at 45 degrees or less when cutting.
@@kevintillack1396 Wow if they charge $20 I'm going to have them come tint for me. In my area were more than that. Some of these are a lot of work. Put one on a Lifted truck and jump around it for half hour then you'll want to charge more.
The sides are curved downwards to cover-up the sun better at angles dude As in, the central portion is not kept longer so as to provide better visiblity of far away traffic
It's ok if that's the style you like. But the fact is you get that downward curve because the bottom edge is straight (installers don't need to cut the bottom edge). It makes for a very quick & easy money install. One more thing, if the side is not to go past the AS1 line which is about 7" (to keep it legal), the middle part might be 5". Does that mean you don't need as much shade when the sun is shining in the middle? I am just sharing how I do it. Others can install it however they like.
So I have a problem that dot matrix where the rear view mirror is looks wierd it’s like the tint sticks to the top half but not the bottom half and from the outside it looks bad, I previously installed one before and it took 2 days to set and look like yours but it’s been about 4 days and it still looks pretty bad
Those DOT matrix are always a pain to deal with. At times they look good. There are a bunch of different ways to deal with them but a lot of work to make them look even and smooth.
@@FadeToBlackLLC update i just ended up redoing it with better quality tint and i used a scuff pad to smooth it down a bit now it looks great. Thanks for the response though!!
it's fine. the dot matrix is an inexpensive way for the manufacturer to apply a sun "blocker" and meet code as the dots are easily seen through. Good tint along with good squeegee-ing will remove both water and air and the tint will conform to the dot matrix no problem. Make sure the surface is (very) clean.
Remember everyone don't hold your knife like he's doing. You'll scratch your glass. Make sure to use Stainless Steel blades also. You did really good!!
The contrast between the shades is very distracting. I would think it would increase the likelihood of an accident vs just getting the entire front windshield tinted.

The way you lay the tint down during prep is the same as when it's installed. So during the outside cutting, the adhesive is facing up.

Why is lots wet important
@@pilarq7886 dirt dust and don’t want to ruin ur film by having it dry all over again ?
My 2014 Nissan Pathfinder SV came standard with the tint for the windshield. It's built in. Strange that yours didn't.
Dealer installed maybe? Or a minor upgrade between years
Did you need to shrink the film with heat?
Didn't need to shrink the film with very little vertical and horizontal curve. Also the strip of tint is small.
So we don't need to do anything special for the dot matrix? I always worried bubbles would get stuck between the dots.
Thanks for the trick!. Good job
So what if your rear mirror has light sensors behind it? What kind of shape would you cut? So the sensors can see that it's daytime
Great instructions!
Once I've got it down and squeegeed out the water do I need to apply heat to the film as the last step?
You don't need to apply heat to the film after squeegee the water out. Let it dry for several days.

Question please Sir, Suggestion on how to remove factory shade Dots from inside the windshield?
You can't remove them. Most tint shops will sand it down a bit so the tint will adhere better.

does this scratch the outside glass with the blade?
Not if you're using stainless steel blades, and keep the angle less than 30 degrees.
steady hands dont exis.... 😳
Super helpful thanks
So you didn’t have to shrink the film? Is the film too narrow to need to be shrunk?
Shrinking is only necessary is the windows has curve vertically and horizontally. The tint strip is narrow and doesn't need it.
wow thank you so much...it really helps
I am doing that!! Genius!
And no heat gun needed eh?? Did you do it?
@@MrScottmccarthy did you get the answer??
Do you need to make that second cut on top or can you skip that step and make that final cut around the black border once you drop the film down?
You can skip the second cut if you want but if you are new to doing it, it's easier to manage the tint when it's trimmed to a smaller piece.
Did you shrink it?
Use water only?
I want to install a full tint over my already installed brow. Why will i have a hard time? Im being told its not going to look good.

To avoid scratching the glass, always use a new stainless steel blade & proper angle holding of blade (about 20 degrees) and applying the right amount of pressure. You need to practice to do it properly.

Did you put white stickers on the Area behind Thinkware dashcam’s sticker @ video 9:51 ?
The white sticker is a RF tag for toll road, and it's placed just below the tint strip.
Won't the black dot mess it up?

If you are referring to vinyl sun strip (vinyl sticker) that has the same shape as the tint strip, those are applied to the outside of the windshield.
Amazing
How do you delete the film? Is it easy?
If you have a dashcam will it pull oft the tint strip?
Yes it will. You have to install the dashcam below the tint film.
How many inches does the strip come down?
Legally it should not pass the AS-1 marking on the top of the windshield.

It’s illegal to tint the front windscreen anymore than it leaves the factory. A sun strip is just at the top. No way is it going to cause an accident
