It's a definite possibility. Personally I think if he did it INTENDING to die, that would still mean earthly attachment and he'd fail/die. I can't even imagine letting go of someone you loved so quickly after they die, if ever. It's not just spiritually, Zaheer is on another emotional level too.
@@Sweet_Venom0027 i don't think he did it intending to die. I think he was aware that she was his last earthly attachment. If after losing what he viewed as his last attachment he still couldn't fly he was fine dieing. The story of a flying air bender would have been just a story. His beliefs in the air bender philosophy would have meant nothing. However he's so strong in his beliefs he didn't doubt he could fly.
I feel like Zaheer wouldn't want to die though, because then he wouldn't be able to fulfil his goal of (SPOILERS) . . .

Yes that is true. Writers have already stated. Korra without any restraint is a dangerous fighter. Spiritually Aang was extremely strong. But physical strength wise, Korra is a force to be reckoned with in the Avatarverse. I would say 2nd only to Kyoshi lol
@@soumyadeepmondal6130 Aang might've been just as much of an accomplished bender, but he's never ruthless. Just in terms of what he'd be willing to do in a fight, his morality limits his bending to non-fatal attacks. I'd agree with you that Kyoshi is probably the most cold-blooded Avatar we've seen so far, definitely followed by Korra. Neither of them would hesitate to catch a body if it came to it, that's for sure, so they automatically have a wider range of choices when it comes to their bending.

so a couple things about this episode:
- It was Sozin who did the heat control bending thing, but its just a highly advanced firebending the most people cant do at all.
- Bolin lava bending has more meaning than people realize. The Earth chakra is blocked by fear, so Bolin overcame his fear of death/failure and further unblocked his earth chakra to lavabend.
- You are right about Zaheer losing P'li meaning he can fly. He is literally not bound to the earth by anything. No love, no possessions, no family, etc.

I always took the lava bending as a result of his fire bending mother and earth bending father.
@@ActrixTheTank But Avatar Szeto was shown lava bending when Roku talked to Aang about the Avatar State. He would have had to fire nation parents. And not all Avatars can lava bend, any more than they can all metal bend (Toph invented it & Korra was the first Avatar to learn it), lightning bend (Aang only learned redirection), bloodbend, heal (Korra was the only Avatar shown doing that), spirit bend (Korra learned that from Unalaq), or energy bend (Aang learned from the Lion turtle & passed on the knowledge to Korra).

@@ActrixTheTank Nah not really. Waterbenders can heat up water to a gaseous state, or melt ice to a liquid state. Lavabending is just a more extreme version of that.
@@METerrell The Avatar can bend any element, and likely any sub-element. They just need the proper instructions on how to do it (there is the possibility of them being unable to learn it if it's so far opposite from their personality, we already saw Aang struggle with earth bending, so he probably struggled even more with metal bending, though I do believe he still could have learnt it if he had dedicated himself to it)
Korra&Tonraq vs Zaheer is one of the most underrated fights ngl. Korra is chained up, fights where someone is handicapped makes them look more badass. And you never see parent-child duos fighting on the same side! It's so cool to see family sticking together!
People need to appreciate korra fighting while cuffed. Its sooooo damn good to watch. I will say that if aang was in that situation he wouldve been toast since he’s all about evading which would be impossible while cuffed

I’m not trying to undermine Korea’s struggles, but they were nowhere near as bad as Aangs. Imagine waking up and finding out that everything and everyone you ever knew and loved was long gone and your whole world turned upside down and feeling like you could’ve done something to have prevented it all.
Aang was constantly blamed for letting the war go on, blamed for the air nomad genocide, and literally DIED at one point. spare this 'Aang had it easy' malarky

Also, theory on why Zaheer was able to unlock the ability of flight when thousands of Airbender before him couldn't. The saying that Zaheer was reciting 'Let go of your earthly tether, empty and become wind.' If you rewatch the beginnings in season 2, you'll see that those Airbenders have different tattoos than the ones we know. The Airbenders changed their tattoos to match the marks of the sky bison to symbolize relationship between Air Nomad and Sky bison. But that relationship is an earthly tether that keeps Airbenders from flying
then how can appa fly? that is if the same logic applies to the bisons themselves o.o

@@jakelovell5882 I just don't think that theory holds up. The skybison are confirmed airbenders they fly through airbending just like the dragons breathe fire through fire bending. It doesn't really make any sense that the air nomads connection to the sky bison would keep them tethered but the sky license connection to the air nomads wouldn't do the same. It just seems like it makes more sense that zaheer was just a completely different type of animal. Air nomads meditate and focus their entire life to gain enlightenment but that doesn't mean they're all destined to achieve it. Zaheer maybe the first Airbender to fly in thousands of years but we know he's not the first and we also have no reason to assume that Laghima existed before the air nomads bonded with the sky bison. Fully detaching yourself from worldly possessions and having a goal that would motivate you towards violence seems like it's probably almost exclusively unique to zaheer

Dragons breathe fire, too. Bagermoles can earthbend like noone else. They are animals, not spiritual beings. There is no need for them to be bound by human feelings and spiritual believes.
Humans didn't always bend the element. That's why it makes sense for them to struggle with the full power.
You have a point. Also it's the same advice that Aang got from the Guru who wanted to help him enter the avatar state at will.
Aang could've learned to fly without the avatar state, but no way could he let go of Katara tho.

What happened? Nickelodeon fucked the creators over, big time. They almost canceled the whole show because the creators made the main lead a girl. After wrapping up season 1, they had to rush and get season 2 out, which speaks for itself. Even with season 3, probably the best in the series, half the season was leaked way before it premiered, and the last half was pulled from television and only released online through Nickelodeon's crappy website, with no warning. All of season 4 was released this way only, and had major budget cuts, which was probably hell for the creators to work with. There may have also been another big reason they stopped after the end of season 4, but I won't spoil what that is.
My guess is the show wasn't going to continue after season 4 anyway and that's why Bryke was able to end the series that way. The reason the series was pulled from TV and only aired on Nick's shitty website was because of the Earth Queen's death, which is ridiculous cuz Nick could've just not agreed to that one moment, or had them edit it to be more ambiguous, but no, they gave that death the ok and then screwed the show over because of it. Hell the creators might not have even wanted to do a season 5 with Nickelodeon jerking them around throughout the entire series, and maybe that's why they went for the ending that they did. And considering the influence it's had on some of my other favorite western cartoons, I'm so glad they did it.

Technically this is an airbending technique that no Avatar would be able to perform. It requires you to let go of your earthly tether, but that Avatar is directly tethered to the Earth. It’s like when Yangchen told Aang “Many great and wise air nomads have detached themselves, and achieved spiritual enlightenment. But the Avatar can never do it, because your sole duty is to the world.”

Season 3 Korra is peak. But we can all agree it has some issues, right? The relationship drama drags it way the fuck down. And I just don't love Korra's character tbh. It had so much potential but I think it fumbles the bag at key moments. Studio interference and fan pressure hit hard. Asami is a queen, though. No complaints. Tenzin and the family, no complaints. Other side characters, no complaints. But Korra's decisions? Nah. And we all agree: Fuck Mako. *Choral Arrangement*

The episode we first meet to hear he tells the guards about Ghuru Laghima. He says that he spent the last years of his life with his feet never touching the ground, so yeah this flying thing was foreshadowed way back. Plus it's literally the same thing the bisons do
I really never thought I would say this, but after watching both shows way too much I think season 3 of Korra is better than 99% of ATLA.

But Avatar never stopped though. After both the shows ended,
1) we got around 8 comic trilogies for both the shows which continues after the show ended.
2) multiple solo comics focussing on individual characters from both the shows depicting some stories in between the seasons of the animated shows or after that.
3) There is also a canon Korra beat-em-up videogame takes place in between Book 2 and 3 with the 2nd most powerful villain in the avatarverse till now.
2) Then currently we got 2 Avatar Kyoshi Novels and 2 new Avatar Yangchen Novels have been announced recently.
3) Currently Avatar studios has been created and they have announced 3 movies. a) Kyoshi movie (2024) b) Zuko movie (2025) c) Korra movie (2026). Also the creatos have confirmed they are not going to animate the existing novels and comics. These will be newer stories and they will only reference those existing materials for maintaining the canon info.
So, yeah the AvatarVerse never stopped expanding though.

So from this my theory is that all benders (possibly non benders) have the capability of opening their chakras like the Avatar. But instead of initiating the Avatar state, they get some kind of eliminatal specific upgrade. For example, combustion bending for fire benders or flying for airbenders. Not sure what the other two could be.

I think I remember something like Nickelodeon finding Korra to have become to mature for kids, which was why season 4 was first only released online (not sure if it has since been released on tv). The Legend Of Korra became really for the fans that have grown up with Avatar on tv, it really matured, and I guess Nickelodeon didnt feel up to continuing that shift to more mature audiences, which yaknow, fair. Nickelodeon always kinda cockblocked the creator’s ideas for the Avatar world which is probably why they now have created Avatar studios. They have so many plans for new stories that you never even thought about, very excited for that!

Not sure if someone mentioned it, but your comment on why Avatar (mainly the last airbender) just ended: The writer intended on only having 3 seasons (maybe a 4th to do air?). But he intended on telling a journey with the ending being Aang defeating the firelord. He mentioned this thing about he doesn't want to tell 'The Never Ending Story' because that's boring since there's no ending
Actuall the original creators of Avatar came together and will produce stuff in the future with their new Avatar studios! They just announced a Kyoshi movie, a Zuko movie, and a Korra movie.

To try and answer why it stopped:
After ATLA was the live action movie that tanked. It was so bad, it made Nickelodeon nervous about Avatar’s viability going into Korra. They only approved 12 episode mini-series, and only towards the very end of production did they renew for a Book 2. The creators weren’t expecting it, and it led to a quality dip for Book 2. It was similarly late in production when they renewed for Book 3, but they renewed Book 4 around the same time, so the creators could plan further ahead. But when Book 2 was received so poorly by the fandom, they started to pull the episodes from premiering on TV, releasing them on Nick’s website instead (the other reason for pulling it was the content maturity boost in book 3 w/ the deaths of the Earth Queen, P’li, and the events of the Book 3 finale).
They also slashed Book 4’s budget w/o changing the number of episodes, causing them to either have to make a cheap clip-package episode out of mostly old footage or fire a bunch of their staff early. Unfortunately the storyline they had to cut was potentially one of the most interesting of the entire show :(
Due to all these production woes, as well as some issues regarding the cultural climate of the time (2014), fans weren’t giving the show a fair shot as it aired towards the end, it’s mostly in retrospect that a lot of fans have come around on it (I personally loved it from the beginning)

There are several reasons why the franchise didn't continue at least in the animated format. Many deduce that Nickelodeon had a hand in it, however to many peoples surprise a lot of the executive personnel from Nickelodeon are huge fans themselves. And the network served as the powerhouse engine that brought this entire franchise to public light. The creators created a show that requires tremendous detail. Unfortunately that comes with many sacrifices. If you look at many of the animatics from this show alone... the quality in those are incredible! Many animation studios no matter where in the world they are would not deal with the quality and meticulous detail it took to animate all the various incredible scenes. Also the Creators and many of the staff involved had to sacrifice a lot of time away from their own families to put the episodes together. A very daunting task that even the creators themselves were tired out over. At one point which is why there was a long gap in between when season 2 premiered on Nickelodeon is because their main studio (Studio Mir) was working on a far less strenuous animated show believed to be (The Boondocks) at the time when they (The Creators) approached them to work on season 2. Studio Mir opted not too, forcing them to work with Studio Pierrot to produce a little more than half the season. Studio Mir took over for the back half but because they were waiting for the animation returns from both studios it resulted in a delay. Also it is worth noting since Studio Mir didn't want their reputation tarnished as being too lazy to animate a work of this detail combined with the reputation of producing animation of such quality the studio grievously took up the work of producing the animation for the remainder of the series. Studio Reve a sub of Mir' agreed to also help take on the tremendous task.
Nickelodeon and their untimely green lights to produce more episodes messed with their production. When Nick gave them 26 more episodes on top of the first two seasons the creators split them into two seasons Book 3 (Change) and Book 4 (No Spoiler yet). Once they had this info they were working on up to 30 episodes at once! Wrapping post-production from Season 2 (Spirits), the production of Season 3 and the pre-production of Season 4. It was a tremendous overhaul of work unheard of in television animation of this quality. It is obviously a lot easier to put together comic books or novels of notable characters from the franchise rather than trying to weave a team of dedicated individuals through a tremendous upheaval of the animation process at its finest!! Avatar Studios is a great refreshing start for the creators but I doubt they will ever forge through another tv series ever again, they've been there done that. More than likely there will be one-off big episodes and more novels. But all in all the dedicated efforts of the Creators with the help of Nickelodeon, Studio Mir, Pierrot and Reve were all worth it! Korra in context to the show is one of the greatest animated works in modern animation history!!!

I remember I watched Young Justice for the first time shortly after finishing a rewatch of Korra. You're right. The animation quality and choreography of this show ruins other shows. It's just on another level. I eventually became a big young justice fan and some of their action scenes are quality. But Korra is in its own tier for me.
