I noticed that when the lemon rind went into the milk there was a little white part also. This part is very bitter and i was wondering if this affected the taste of the custard at all?
The "cake" looks interesting but without American ingredient/ measurements I doubt I'd ever try it. Eggs sometimes have blood spots on them, so adding them directly to the batter is undesireable. I crack my eggs one @ a time into a small dish 1st to check condition of egg, if No spots, then into batter. From the comments I've read about this recipe, others have similar feelings. Sorry.
