I absolutely love it! So nice to see people respecting a house and to restore it to its former glory instead of ripping the soul out of it to make it look like an uninspired ‘modern’ concrete box.
One hundred percent agree. I HATE when people buy a beautiful OLD house and proceed to make it look modern thereby destroying the beauty that once was. If you want a modern looking house buy one that already looks modern. I'm not talking about updating- wiring and plumbing etc. That is necessary of course. I'm saying as to the look of the old house restoration is what makes it look best and keeps the historical integrity. Hate these hgtv shows that just ruin the old houses they look hideous when they are done "renovating" them.
LOVE the original bricks. Good idea to restore! What a change that house must have felt (and yes, I am one to firmly understand houses have souls and hearts too!)
I love how you restored the outside front. It went from sad and lonely to lovely and charming. You are making the spirit of you house joyful. Just one comment you might want to consider. Living in the US, I can't tell you how much a rear patio roof will add to the enjoyment of your garden. Imagine being able to relax outside on all those rainy days with a hot mug of tea enjoying the wonderful aroma of your flowers and listening to the birds. Many of us have small heaters to keep us warm on chillier days, along with cushioned chairs and throws. It just adds to the comfort and enjoyment.
My family did countless home remodeling projects when I was growing up and we lived on site the whole time. When it came time for our major home remodeling project we moved into an apartment and did the entire house in four months. Yes, it was expensive but it really helped reduce the amount of daily stress in our lives.
How amazing that you had the vision, the dedication, and hard work, to 'Love your Victorian house, back to life!' An inspiration! can't wait to see more! love sue xxx
Wonderfully done. As an old person in London who doesn't use insta it is great to see this on youtube. When we found our house (having children by then) having separate rooms was really important for working from home (even back in the old days) to keeping teenagers caged (well not caged but separate) so everyone has privacy. I have never understood anyone who likes everything open plan. The tiles on the path are like those my daughter's flat had in London and I remember the quotes for the works to repair them (she sold up this year and moved slightly more into outer London near me (as has husband and 2 children now) which is a different issue really - where people choose to live in London), never mind the finances of mortgages and costs which being the boring person that I am I find equally as interesting. The UK as we know has an open property register and the video gives the number on the street - which perhaps might want to be blocked.
Completely agree. This is so true for the UK housing market. No one seems to invest in improving the curb appeal of their properties. It's even often difficult to do so due to local planning regulations. I'm not sure what the US is really like, but whenever I was at US house reno shows, the first thing they talked about was replacing siding and improving the front garden which makes total sense!
Absolutely wonderful job. So great to see walls! A proper sitting room, dining room, and a kitchen that is separate. Well done, you! While it may not be original, I would be tempted to add french windows to the dining room leading out into the garden. That way if you are holding a dinner party, guests can get from drinks in the garden to the dining room without going through the kitchen.
If there were more guys like you guys doing these thorough and attractive renovations, London would look infinitely better. Well done Ash, for the inspiring and fascinating video. Having done these renovations myself, I know what you went through but you did it superbly. You deserve every happy day you have in what you created.
I don't see why anyone would ask "why" you bought this place. It's no one's business. All that matters is you want to buy it and you want to make it a home. I think it's an incredible find.
@@ashmazzina Wow, so edgy. Get a dictionary yourself and stop using words you don't understand as clickbait. derelict, adjective A place or building that is derelict is empty and in a bad state of repair because it has not been used or lived in for a long time.
@@YaaLFH The house was empty and not lived in for years: it had damp, rotten floor boards, a collapsing conservatory and as per the surveyors report, left in a derelict condition. But of course you know better 👏🏼
@@ashmazzina It may have not been lived in for a year or two while it was on the market, but it was far from derelict unless your definition of derelict is "not suitable to move in immediately". But hey, don't forget to title the next video where you paint some walls "EXTREME renovation".
The update to the outside of your home is a huge improvement ! Good luck on your remodeling. I know it’s a real pain but I know your home will look so beautiful in the end!
This is wonderful to see, i just love what you have done! As an interior designer, I am sensitive to my environment so this is truly inspirational. Thank you and well done.
I have to hand it to both of you-even though it must’ve been a little difficult to leave such a stunning apartment for someone you could only imagine. Good on you, though! 👏👏
enjoyed watching this. Love how you restored the front of the house, windows and garden. Would love to see the inside after kitchen installed and the house 'finished'. What I particularly loved was your decision to demolish the naff conservatory and improve your private outdoor space. Whenever I have been looking at houses to buy I have wanted to tear down the silly additions which, while giving more floor space, inevitably distance the garden from the house, usually the kitchen. So, so much better to appreciate the garden from the house. I have chosen to move into a very tiny house and friends all assumed I would do an extension. That might give me a larger kitchen but the courtyard garden is already small. Instead, I am going to rip open the back wall and install larger windows the full width of the house to bring the garden into the kitchen/dining area. This will give me more light and will make it feel like I am eating in the garden without losing precious outdoor space. Many people will tell you that you have devalued your house by losing a third bedroom for your luxury bathroom but I applaud you designing the house to suit your needs and wants. I have taken down the wall between my two very tiny bedrooms, thus 'devaluing' my 2 bed to a one bed property but this gives me light from two aspects, so the space no longer feels pokey and now place my bed in an alcove and use the enlarged floorspace for my desk, my yoga mat and a comfy chair, thus turning the upstairs into a sunny study/sitting room which will be ideal on winter days because my tiny sitting room downstairs is very dark and best for cosy nights. I do think it is never about amount of space but quality of space and you are taking care to make yours lovely.
Love you guys, wish there were more like you. So much housing stock is transformed into high end accommodation and so loosing the charm and original style but you have achieved this and recreated that special charm. Well done and congratulations on surviving that first winter😮
So exciting! I’ve done renovations in the past and love old houses. I’m not up to it now so I will be an armchair renovator! I love what you have done so far .
Gorgeous! We have just bought one and it’s now rented out but I want to get started on changing it, will have to wait. Love what you have done. I really want the black and white tiles and hydrangeas everywhere. Luckily we have some original features left, old radiators but don’t think they will last out!
Yes! I found you on Instagram, glad to see you have a TH-cam! I've just bought my Victorian reno house and your decor style is a match made in heaven with mine, I'm just afraid to be as bold as you so you are definitely inspiring! Thank you for sharing!
Welcome! 😂 that’s amazing, honestly just try it in one place to start with. If you end up hating it you can’t always change it back. Good luck with the Reno!
Really lovely work! Appreciate all the care you put in to it. I do think you missed a trick by not taking the opportunity to add insulation to those suspended wooden floors.
I love that you cared about exposing brick on the exterior, actually having a garden (so many people just create a car park where I live. I also like that you put in the coving and ceiling roses. Thank you for showing your dog in the bath and his "I still hate it here" made me laugh out loud. The renovation was wonderful to watch.
Excellent, tasteful restoration. love the fact you put in sash windows and got rid of the 'modern' look.
Thank you very much! Those windows had to go 👋🏼
I love those black and white checker tiles at the front of the house. A worthy investment
Definitely! Quite an expensive addition but in my opinion worth it ☺️
That’s beautiful, I love how much charm you returned to the house. I’m glad to see so much personality In a house renovation, it looks lovely.

That's not what "derelict" means. This house was not derelict. It was lived in and in decent shape for a Victorian conversion.

Your taste in interior is impeccable
Fabric softener is perfect for taking down wallpaper. The paper nearly falls off the wall and the smell is wonderful.
Next time I have to remove wallpaper I’m definitely trying this!
