    Actions make people into killers not entertainment. The people that use entertainment as a scapegoat were already messed up to begin with.

    ryan makes a great point about feeling bad/good about killing the bad guys at the end. I had 0 clue it was a manson thing and that absolutley would have played a huge part not sure for better or worse

    I saw this movie last night. I really enjoyed the movie. Dope af.
    I'm thinking about why Cinema is in the state is in today. Idk man it has to do with monopolization and studios wanting to maximize profits. Making good original films that aren't sequels or remakes is a gamble I guess. This is why we need to seize the means of film production!

      Acutally it'll be about 9/11... Samuel L Jackson, Brad Pitt, Leo Dicaprio, and Kurt Russell are all passengers on the 4 flights... and each man becomes the hero of their respective airplane by torching the terrorists with a makeshift flamethrower from a can of bug spray and a lighter.... the WTC is saved.. Pentagon is saved.. we never go to war with Iraq... and we never have to hear the Dixie Chicks complain about everything

    Hi, Is it possible that Quentin wanted to portray Sharon's insignificance before the murder. When Rick and Cliff are in the car and Polanski and Sharon pull up, the camera focuses on Sharon, but Rick starts talking about Polanski, and later at the movies the cashier asks Sharon to stand next to the poster in order to be recognized while taking a photo.

    I disagree with Tommy, this movie assumed general audience's awareness of the Mansons is a lot higher than it is. I had no idea what was going on and neither did anyone I was with.

    • @bennnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn

      at which point did you have no idea what was going on?

    • @username4570
      @username4570 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@bennnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn Well I had no idea it was connected to the Mansons or who Sharon Tate was or where the movie was headed. I didn't have a sense of what the narrative was aiming for and so there wasn't any tension aside from within the contained nature of individual scenes. Nothing kept my engagement through the scenes, each new scene was like starting from zero, so some worked and a lot didn't as they were relying on something I and those I was with were completely oblivious to. The ending seemed to come out of nowhere and while it was shocking and funny it wasn't satisfying as it felt just random.

    • @bennnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn
      @bennnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@username4570 gotcha... so when you saw the trailers and saw that Margot Robbie was playing Sharon Tate, you had no idea who she was and what happened to her? I'm assuming you didnt follow this film in its early days when all the articles surrounding it labeled it as a film about "the Manson murders".

    • @username4570
      @username4570 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@bennnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn Correct. No Idea who Sharon Tate was and I try to avoid spoilers. In this case I think that was a mistake and have been encouraging those I know to look up the Manson murders prior to seeing the film. It took an hour and a half conversation and a bunch of googling with friends before we understood what we had just watched. Things may be different in the states, but these events are not super common knowledge to people in their 20s in Canada

    • @bennnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn
      @bennnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@username4570 ok that makes more sense then.... I'm 27 and live in Louisiana and I've known about Manson for as long as I can recall... when I heard Tarantino was making a new film, the first articles I read said that it would be about the Manson murders... so I knew, loooooooong before going into the film, what this would be about.... in fact, I listened to a few podcasts on Charles Manson a few weeks ago just to understand the background a little more.... and it definitely helped me to understand much better what happened leading up to and during the Tate murders.

    In the scene where the little girl is acting with DiCaprio he shoves her into the floor and ask her for an apology for hurting her, after that the little girl responds "Cool down Man, i'm wearing pads and getting paid" while in the Brad Pitt's travel to the spahn ranch It ends up bloody and dirty. I think this is a personal commentary on How Tarantino feels about hurting people inside and outside the movie cameras. (And also an early indulgence for the clímax)

    watched the movie today, and i don't know if i am not digging deep enough but i felt like basically what tarantino wanted to do was what he always does: playing homage to an era of cinema which might have been his favorite and has influenced him the most, and showing us a glimpse of the movies he loves, and why. overall if felt like a love letter to his passion, and i think he neglected the manson family murders intentionally to put all of the focus on those hollywood stars, maybe because tarantino wants to say that they should be remembered for their achievements and their influence in pop culture, not always by the way they died. tbh i loved margot robbie as sharon tate (i wished she had a bigger part!!), although i didn't know much about her before, and just like i was googling her afterwards, maybe more people start to get interested in those times of cinema tarantino adores. well, that's all i could come up with, love your show, keep up the amazing work

    Totally disagree that all people know right out of the gate who the Manson Family is. When I talk to people who don't like this film many are younger and don't know anything about the Family and what they did in the 60s and 70s. That is not an indictment on younger people. It's just based on the fact that many younger people were not feed the constant media about Manson like older people were.

    I knew the Mason Murders from my parents years ago however they mostly shared with me the odd connection with the Beach Boys band. I had no clue who Sharon Tate was nor her connection to the case as a murder victim. I know now, thanks to internet research however the film did not develop the Sharon character well to a person whose uncultured to the event. It may not be Quentin's fault however after I left the theater I thought she was totally pointless to the film. Now I know about her so I kinda get her being shown ... I dunno I wish she had additional interaction with the rest of the cast. Her scenes just didn't work for me. I was more interested in Leo and his stunt-man's adventure. Her going to the cinema, was dull to me. The pace of the film really slowed down, I found it tough to sit through.

    The use of "You just keep me hanging on" by Vanilla Fudge, during the film's climax, was one of my favorite Tarantino song/scenes... up there with "Stuck in the middle with you" from Reservoir Dogs and "Cat People" from Inglourious Basterds.... and of course the many many song/scenes from Pulp Fiction...... that being said though, am I the only one who noticed there was actually alot of moments in OUATIH that seemed almost too quiet? Scenes which could've benefited from a song in the background or at least a subtle score... maybe it's just me.... either way though, still plenty of good songs littered throughout the movie.

    Around 25:30 when you talk about what might have happened if the Sharon Tate murders didn't happen... First off, Roman Polanski and Sharon Tate would have had their kid. Maybe he and Sharon stay together, maybe he doesn't go on to sexually assault a teenager like he did down the line. Only in films can we avoid these awful realities. That seems to be a whole thesis of the film - movies are awesome. The weird editing and production design choices are very deliberate, as if to remind us that we are in fact watching a movie. What stuck out most for me in particular were the road markings. When they leave or enter a carpark, they tend to be driving in the opposite direction of the indicators on the road, going the wrong way in or out of something that is an exit/entry only. I don't know why that stuck out to me the most

    The point of this movie (for me ofc) may lie in between the hollywood fary tale and the horror of the manson family story, the golden days having a gruesome undertone which becomes part of the overall nostalgic fantasy though the lenses of time.
    Still this movie has meanings like onions have layers.
