i think that a big reason why people love spiderman so much, is that his motive for being a superhero is much more human than that of other heroes. it isn't because he's just such a good person that he wants to help everyone, and it isn't because something bad happened to him and he doesn't want anyone else to feel that pain, no: it's guilt. he didn't act for someone else when he morally should've, and that ended up getting someone he cared about killed. that's the most realistic superhero motive that i know of
