Dendrobium is doing well in patio from summer thru winter. I repot time to time … they grow so well - so fast. Easy care. I cut keiki put in the pot hanging on the orange tree - doing well.
Hi, I just bought my first Dendrobium Nobile …yay! I’m exited about it, the fragrance is nice like a body cream😊 is a little confusing at first about how to take care of it but I know that with tutorials I like yours I’ll get the right care … thank you for this informative video!
Orchid Girl said that it's best to put the keikis straight into regular husk and bark rather than moss. I have some to remove soon. They have grown from a broken stem that i kept in water.
Hi Nicole, I found your TH-cam today and like it very much, I am a beginner at orchid growing. You sound very professional and explain things well. Thanks for sharing this interesting video.
Hi Nicole. Thanks for sharing. I have a Dendrobium Phalaenopsis that was begining to develope a new cane. It stopped, it's still there. I think it stopped because of the keiki that developed. I did not know how to remove them until I watched your video. Now it wants to spike out. It will produce a deep purple color. No fragrance just a nice show. Again thanks for the info Nicole. 😊
We're in the UK and our Dendrobium sits on top of a refrigerator near the back. It has stayed green through the winter because of the warmth it receives from the fridge motor. It hasn't flowered but has started to grow new offshoots. Enjoying learning about this fantastic family of plant. Thank you for your insightful videos!
Thanks so much for watching Michelle! A cool window for a few weeks definitely triggers the nobiles letting them know it's winter and time to start setting some buds. Have a fantastic weekend!
Hi Nicole, Thank you for the great information and appreciate the videos! Just curious if you were planning an update on the den. nobile keiki's? Did the water culture work?
Thanks for shearing this information, very clear! But; when is the time to put them in a bark mix? Do the need a intermediate mix? Say: half bark mix half sphagnum? Thank you.
Thanks for watching! Both work for this orchid. I think it depends on your availability to water. If you have it in bark, during the growth season I'd water more often, as it approaches dryness. If you have it in moss it'll retain more water and you won't have to water as much. As for the keikis, I like moss to keep them moist longer, but as the roots develop, in 6 months or so you can pot it into your mix of choice.
Thanks for watching! Not many places I'm aware of in the city. The flower district has a few places with them, but they mostly have phals, and sometimes oncidiums. I've heard of a vendor selling orchids in the union square farmers market on the weekend. I generally order online since there's not much variety here. Sunset Valley orchids, Carmela orchids and Hausermann orchids are some of my favorite vendors. Happy growing!
How would you water the keikis in moss? By dunking the whole container in water or light spraying of the moss? Or by watering in the tray from the bottom?
Hi Nicole. Would you be able to link the update video on this please if you managed to do it, as I can't find it on your channel. I have one keiki on my dendrobium and it's winter and I wonder if I should remove it now how you did it, but I want to see you progress.
Hi Vaide, I have it outside resting now, but can make an update when I bring it in and it's got buds! I likely did an update with this one 2 months after this video on my monthly bloom update to show the blooms, let me quickly find the video and get the title for you
It's the December 2020 Orchid Collection Update | The Snow has Arrived in NYC! Update & Walk If you search for it on TH-cam it'll come up. It's got other orchids, but it showed how this orchid did in bloom!
Thanks for watching! I usually show it in my monthly updates when it blooms, but I may do a larger update as some folks have been asking for updates on others so perhaps I'll do an overall update on a new video in a few weeks.
Hi Nicole, very interesting about the dendrobium and its keikis and how you removed them from the mother plant. Do you have any idea when they will be old enough to flower ? Can you provoke a mother plant to produce them, was it because of the cold days spent on the fire escape ? Didn’t you say that you would grow them in water ? Thanks for sharing with us.
Hey Andre! They probably won't be old enough to flower for maybe 2 years. I gave some of the keikis away to my mom. She's growing them in moss right now. I have two keikis here and I have them in full water culture in a tall shot glass. I'll show them on my next monthly update. They are doing well. In terms of triggering the Orchid to produce keikis, they nobiles tend to produce keikis when the don't get a cool winter rest and you keep the temperatures warm throughout the year. They also get keikis when they are getting fertilizer during the rest period. Lastly they may produce keikis if they are stressed out. It's their way of reproducing in case they don't make it. Thanks for watching 🤗
Hi! I have small babies on my orchid. They have long roots but small leaves, and they always dry up and die. Can you help me? What can i do for her to live?
I don't do it intentionally, but you'll get lots of keikis if your fertilizer through the winter rest and instead of giving it cool temps during winter, if you keep it warm. Cheers!
Hi Nicole, im in Pakistan have a few. Its extremely hot i have mine indoors. But iv noticed the canes drying..quite a few from each orchid. What should i do? We are drawing closer to autumn/winter round about end September. Thank you
Old canes will dry out and die. Provided you are giving the orchid good moisture during the growing season it's ok. Just make sure to water in the growing season as the orchid dries and all should be ok. If you let it go too long without water though it can cause issues. I'd still water regularly till you see it stop growing then let it be for the rest.
Roots are the most important part. I've had leafless keikis sprout new strong growths. It just needs some time to grow. Keep it in a moist yet well draining mix and I'm sure it'll grow and get stronger.
@@NicoleDeanna yes it has tiny roots there is a flower and a bud at the top I haven't removed or from the cane yet It had the keiki when my father bought it roots grew recently When he bought it there were many flowers they are starting to fall now as I said above 1 flower and 1 bud left

Hey! I recently (about 6 months ago, early summer) did the same you did with two keikis, that maybe were a tiny smaller, but had healthy roots and 3 leaves each. I have them in a tiny concrete container (it doesnt have holes but it's porous) planted in sphagnum and a few bits of of bark/charcoal. We've just entered autumn and now both of them have lost a leave. Normally i'd not worry about my mother plant dropping leaves and keeping only the chunky steams because it has a lot of other steams and leaves, but these babies are tiny and had only 3 leaves total, and now are with 2 each. Am I in danger of losing them? :v The roots seem fine, still with green bits but skinniner than before, and I dont see any rot, but they also have not developed further since split from the mother. The mother plant is outdoors in a trellis, the babies are indoors next to a window on the tiny pots.
I have a nobile with 8 keikis (I cheated and used keiki paste). Do you water and/or fertilize the keiki roots by misting them while they’re still attached to the mother plant?
It will be ok without the cooling period ❤️ I ended up experimenting this year without letting them get as cool and they bloomed, just be sure to withhold fertilizer :)

Yes, they get into a “mixed up teenage kid” stress syndrome with wrong temperatures and produce keikis instead of new shoots
