    I am a new to orchid collecting. I have a large Oncidium that needs to be repotted. After watching your video, I am more confident with tackling that repotting.

    Great information. It has taken me a minute to figure out they like more moisture than I was giving them! They would grow and look nice, then the next thing I would have the leaves start to "ripple". lol Hopefully I've got it figured out. Have a great day.

    Thanks for an informative video. I have a crowded pot of Oncidium Orchid that needs to be divided. Your video has been helpful.
    So, you only use the moss to complete the repotting. Would the division require orchids bark to fill in the pot with some moss? Or, is it better with only moss?
    I appreciate your advice.

    • @NicoleDeanna
      @NicoleDeanna  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You can use whatever you prefer for your environment. Bark and moss is great for larger pots to give even more air, will just require slightly more watering :)

    I just got my first oncidium orchid sweet baby. I have bark soaking and will pot her in a clay orchid pot with holes. The pots are a good size and they are meant for orchids. Clay pots help to hold moisture.

    Thanks for the great video on Oncidium Daniela. I've killed off at least 20 Phals & Cymbidiums (root rot) in bark when watering them 2 weekly so that I currently only give my tall Oncidium dancing lady a big drink 3 weekly only, which so far (crossing fingers) seems to suit my indoor plant. Perhaps our high humidity is the reason.

    • @NicoleDeanna
      @NicoleDeanna  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Rot is common when the humidity is very high so you'd have to adapt with less moisture retentive media that dries quicker ❤️ Happy growing!

    I’m almost ready to repot my oncidium that is a No I.D. division (from my daughter) from a university greenhouse about 20 years ago. I’ve kept it alive but it rarely bloomed until I discovered TH-cam video channels like yours.❤
    Watching your video helps but my oncidium is such a climber, the bulbs that bloomed weren’t even the ones in the pot. I just repotted a year ago. I’m not sure whether to repot the newest bulbs that are still in the pot or discard them and repot the bulbs that are mature and bloomed this year. Have you had an extreme climber and, if so, how did you repot?

    • @NicoleDeanna
      @NicoleDeanna  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I've never had a big climbing Oncidium, but I've had Oncidiums get so overgrown, the bulbs grow outside of the pot. You probably need to divide it to make it more manageable. I like to keep the new bulbs and take off the older bulbs. It might be easiest to divide it up into two or three if it climbs a lot. Sounds like it's really vigorous. I'm really glad the videos have helped ❤️❤️❤️

    I have two Maxillaria tenuifolia (yellow) and Maxillaria (red) Oncidiums more commonly known as the coconut orchid for it's fruity coconut fragrance. My red variety is in need of repotting due to overflowing size and frankly growing out of its pot, I do not however want to divide the plant only size up the pot. Is it always necessary to divide when signs of new roots are pushing up? Thanks in advance.

    • @NicoleDeanna
      @NicoleDeanna  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      I would divide at this point! Sometimes they get so rootbound you'd have to water daily to keep them happy. If you notice wrinkled bulbs it's time to repot :)

    I’ve got one of those as well just put it in Lock and spray it every three days growing well seems to be how often do you water yours? Mine aren’t in Dad Moss too warm for that hair. I should be every day but I’ve got it so what do you think?

    How much water should you add to the moss when watering. Should the moss be very dry? crispy? or not

    • @NicoleDeanna
      @NicoleDeanna  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I let it almost get dry, but it's still a tiny bit damp so not fully crispy yet, the moss can move a little then I water. With that said if your conditions are very humid I recommend mixing with some bark, as some folks in extremely humid environments get rotting.

    Hey Nicole! I picked up my first oncidium orchid today! I have it sitting away from my other orchids. It wasnt in bloom when I picked it up. The leaves & bulbs are healthy looking, and roots are growing out of the top of the pot in a circular pattern. 🤷‍♂️😂 I'm considering just doing an immediate repot tomorrow, just to take a look inside at the roots, etc. Is there anything else I should know about this type of orchid? Thanks!!

    • @NicoleDeanna
      @NicoleDeanna  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Nice! Oncidums produce a ton of roots so I'm not surprised that roots are growing out of the pot! I'd say that these orchids love moisture so I always water them as they are approaching dryness and don't let them stay too dry too long. Also i say when repotting, you won't know what roots are alive or dead because there are too many, but you can tell which bulbs are newer and which ones are older by the way it's growing, use that to guide you to help you decide which roots to trim. Happy growing :)

    I’m afraid to repot my oncidium bc it’s waay overdue and large. It seems as though you don’t use large pots. Do oncidiums like to be kind of snug in a pot?

    • @NicoleDeanna
      @NicoleDeanna  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Depends on the root system, but I like smaller so they can dry faster, but a big pot can work if it has a big root system :) Don't be afraid, give it a shot! They are vigorous.

      I would use bark, if it's in a bigger pot absolutely. Since I repotted to a smaller pot moss is ok, but 5" or bigger, I'd add bark for more drainage.
