Nowadays, the bar is so low that 'moderate' just means you're not batshit crazy.
The bar is even lower. Moderate means you can avoid saying batshit crazy things. Or in the case of Haley, you say crazy things, then listen to your handlers and attempt to walk back the crazy things (instead of doubling down without a hint of error). Either way, you still vote in lock step with the crazies.

There are several absolutely insane people who are considered "moderate" now simply because they don't try to take office anyway after losing an election (which even the bats%&@ crazy candidates used to do until 2020)!

Agreed. John McCain was a "moderate". Biden is a moderate. Romney, Liz Chaney, and several others are moderates.
Conservative voters will not vote for a moderate. It only means you have no convictions and don't believe the things the voters believe.

The new Daily Show format of 2-3 hosts a week is really working. Desi is crushing it, Jordan is always a riot, and John is the OG. Great idea to make late night TV more engaging.

It’s nice to see Desi pointing out that Liz Cheney is, in fact, quite awful. She only stands out because she’s a staunch defender of Democracy. That should be an extremely low bar to pass, but somehow being a pro-democracy Republican is a profile in courage now.
If she's speaking out for Democracy and against autocracy, authoritarianism, dictatorship and fascism, I applaud her!

Yes, but her argument against Liz Cheney falls flat in this segment. She talks way too much about how Cheney loves bombing other countries when Democrats love bombing other countries just as much.
Someone mentioned in this comment thread that Cheney voted the same as Trump 95% of the time - that would have been a much better argument to make.

More people need to see Desi hosting. This is great stuff and she's hitting on important topics that aren't getting much traction elsewhere for whatever reason. I've been a fan for a while. I'm glad she's killing it in the host seat. :)
Beautifully written and Desi Lydic's delivery keeps getting better and better.
I find Desi's segments to be even more informative than Jon's. After watching NH appear on SNL, I thought "ok, maybe she's worth reconsidering" and this segment by Desi brought me straight back to earth. And as the week has gone on she's gotten more and more comfortable. She is KILLING IT, well done!
Candidates become moderate when running for the general election. The fact that Biden is unpopular among so many democrats prove that just as much as Trump's primary victories. The abortion ban may be historically unpopular, but so is unrestricted abortion. The broken immigration system is an acknowledged reality among both parties, the only difference is who they blame. There are partisan divides among fellow democrats and republicans when it comes to foreign policy.
The one true moderate is RFK Jr and he is constantly smeared as a conspiracy theorist. Perhaps the media feeds into this hyper partisan divide by failing to cover the candidates objectively and people like Trump seize on the opportunity to make headlines.
It's well past time for SNL to be cancelled.

It kills me that people can look at Haley and think she's moderate. Some people say she's a return to how the GOP used to be and I would just point out that before Trump we had Bush Sr, Bush Jr, Reagan, and Nixon. They were all terrible and they will continue to be terrible after Trump.
I always tell people who say anything about "how Republicans used to be" that nothing has changed. Only that they no longer try to hide it.

"moderate" is, by definition, a relative term.. it's not surprising people forget this and assume it means "even handed" or "sensible" as that's often what it equated to in the past... but it's also scary AF that we've become desensitized to Trump's craziness and calling Haley a "moderate" is probably about right (pun intended).
She just knocks it out of the park. I like this trio now oh her Stewart and Klepper.
Shout out to the writers and crew for turning the ship around...everyone is great and your making some really engaging content!
She has very clearly and repeatedly stated that she thinks abortion laws should be left up to the individual States rather than imposing a national ban after 6 weeks. While she said that she PERSONALLY is against abortion, she still wouldn't enact federal laws to block it.
And how many times did those Supreme Court justices affirm Roe was "settled law" before overturning it?
