Yes you can! It's really fun too. For example I've digitized my handwritten signature and embroidered it onto some commissions. Apparently people really wanted that at the time :)
Nice Job! I must say I have watched MANY videos trying to understand more about embroidery, programs and the stitches. I should have started here! Hi Tock! What machine would you recommend starting out with? I would love to be able to do custom stuff as well for myself. Your videos are really great and I appreciate the effort you put in creating them
spent a few hours on the free trial hoping i could at least test how it all works only to discover you cant save the file or use it. really great tutorial and it helped a lot. im just pretty upset with brother for my wasted time.
i just got a luminaire 3 and pe design 11 and you are the first person who actually can help me understand the process. i enjoy the way you show and explain things thank you so much
Great video! I seem to have mixed results when importing art with auto punch. What file type do you use? I create in Corel Draw and seem to have best luck exporting as .png file to import in Brother. Still not best quality..Eps file looks terrible.
Generally JPG's or JPEG's work the best. Higher resolution is always better - at least 1000x1000 pixes or higher. PNG's and EPS files are crazy high compression, so JPG's are much easier for this software to handle. Hope that helps, and hope you're doing terrific!
Thanks for this tutorial. I bought a Babylock 10 needle embroidery machine 6 months ago. Palette 11 came with the bundle. I've been busy learning the machine, but to tell the truth, I've been too intimidated with the software to even install it until today. I do know Photoshop, so I am not sure why I've let this software scare me. Your relaxed manner in explaining the steps for digitizing has really helped to settle my nerves. Here I go! :)
hey, i want to learn all about embroidery. I'm a beginner. i make designs and I don't know about density, stitches, punching etc . how to count stitches of our design in a better way .. i would love to see more tutorials because the way you teach is something bigger. i don't know what to say but after watching this video now I'm not hopeless. thanks.
I'm happy this gave you a place to start with your designs. I just got the new version of this software and plan to do more videos on its features. Thanks for the support, more to come for sure!
What kind of formatting was your GOT picture when you uploaded it? I had issues that the quality went down or the image changed once I started messing with the settings like you did ( changed the color quantity, noise and so forth).
I usually use JPEG's. You can use a PNG too, but make sure it doesn't have any transparent areas. The higher resolution the better. Great question, hope this helps! :)
omg i am thinking of getting into custom embroidery for hobby/ business and was sort of thinking of not ... until i saw your video. Thank you for being transparent, clear and very informative on designing embroidery on graphics. Thanks!
Me again, sorry! I would like to know where the Pe-Design other versions can be found 2,5,8 something like that. I saw PE- Design 10 as and upgrade for over $300. Then after numerous hours of searching, I saw a Pe Design 10 for about $1300's! Can you recommend a digitizing software for beginner to tryout before making such a large investment? Anything thats in a PES format.
Unfortunately there's really no way around the price - every brand that makes digitizing software is extremely expensive. You can usually make your money back very quickly if you do a lot of custom patch or embroidery jobs for sure. I made like $500 in a week once just doing a handful of very specific patches for a customer - so that paid for half the software in a week :)
I just asked the same question. That was not an added expense that I was expecting. I watched several videos and no one mentioned this was required. But, I did hear the word digitize today.
@@paratroopergirl4064 Another option you have if the software is too expensive is to buy embroidery files online - there are usually thousands of premade designs you can get for about $2 to $5 dollar each, and use them as much as you want :)
It is very powerful software and can do just about everything the best commercial software can, although it may take a few more steps. Myself, I am an old school hand digitizer following in the footsteps of John Deer, Steve Wilson and Walter Floriaini. All about machine productivity and pathing. Never have used the auto features. However, when used correctly as you have done, you can get excellent results. As long as you do not have to sew out more than a dozen it is a good way to go.
I wish I could put this comment in a bottle and send it to everyone who says "Why is it so expensive!?" lol Thank you so much for watching, hope you're having a terrific evening!
@@TockCustom If you ever want to see how the old timers digitized I chose this short tutorial on pathing from my channel th-cam.com/video/MLW8XFaVnWY/w-d-xo.html

OMG...I am so glad I found you. Your videos are so informative and easy to understand. I have been wanting to do patches for so long and finally have the financial capability to get a good machine. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR WHAT YOU DO & FOR SHARING YOUR KNOWLEDGE!
Finding out this software alone costs 2 grand broke me. I wonder if Brother and Adobe are mates who hang out with each other after hours for beers and the lolz.
lmao - the image of that is pretty damn funny. The retail software is about $1000 - but if you're taking commissions you can make that money back fast. At least Brother doesn't make that DRM software crap. Thanks for watching!
LOVE this video. Can you create more PE-Design tutorials? I’ve been watching others and your presence, tonality & inflection is 100fold better. I fell asleep last night watching someone else who was more monotone. LOL I just got PE-Design 11 three days ago & I exported some Brother files to play with. I have two files though that I want to “delete” some of the stitches from. One file has two shells & I want to delete one of the shells. It won’t “ungroup” and the left pane only displays “1” & the whole stitch pattern. Where as the Butterfly imported as multiple steps so I was able to reorder the stitches by color & right size the pattern for my face mask space. Keep up the GREAT work.
So happy this was helpful! I'm getting a copy of PE-11 next week, and I will certainly do some more videos on using this software for sure. I know exactly what you're talking about with the grouping and framework stitches, I'll do my best to cover more details than this video :) Thanks for the recommendation!
wonderful video! i've had this software and my brother se625 for about 4 years and haven't embroidered anything. recently, some1 requested a custom patch. ...i'm so excited now.
I've gotten a lot of requests to do more content on this software, so I may be doing that soon. Although I may want to do it with the current software since this version I have isn't current (although it still works great). I'll let folks know when I have more info :)
@@TockCustom I sell PE-Design where I work, as well as a couple other brands of digitizing software. The main difference between PE-Design 10 and 11 is they added some features for quilters and I think a few things for the Scan N Cut. You're not missing much and the tools are identical on both.
What a fantastic video! I have PED Basic, Palette 7 and Chroma Luxe and have watched countless videos, read the manuals and still end up fumbling through on my own. In One viewing of your video you have helped me understand many aspects of the programs I already have! I wrote notes furiously as you presented and these will help immensely! I will see if you have a video on how to utilize a background image to create an embroidery design, because I have a design that stumps my autodigitize. And your demo of how PE 10 creates an automatic patch edge was jaw dropping! Thank you!
I freaking LOVE you!!!! I just bought a floor model Luminaire 1 with ALL the bells and whistles thrown in including PE-Design 11 and the SnC 230D , for less than I paid for my junk Bernina 830LE (which I traded in), and was a PITA to use. Thank you for all your videos, as I was up most of the night watching!! I especially like that they are newer and up to date, not to mention easy to follow. I'm new to digitizing and am excited to get started! So many ideas in my head that are waiting to be stitched out!!
Excellent! I may do another video on this software to fill some gaps. I've had some requests to show off some more details and features. Let me know if you have any questions along the way :D
I'm so happy to help! I have to say, this is probably the most "User Friendly" software I've used, and it can still be a bit overwhelming sometimes. The Viking software comes with 12 books to help you learn the basics lol, I'll stick with PE-Design :) Thanks for watching!
Thanks so much for posting this video... It is by far the best video out there on creating embroidery files. I have been checking for a few years and this video is amazing. Thanks again.
Have you ever used InkScape/Inkstich in your workflow? I utilize Adobe Illustrator 2020 as part of my design workflow and would like to include it with digitizing embroidery process. But the best I could find is i2 software that is an Illustrator plugin. It is commercial grade and has a price tag to match, over 3k. While searching for a similar alternative I came across Inkscape/Inkstitch. It is open source and therefore free. I am considering utilizing this app but wanted to hear from more experienced people such as yourself. Note: It is difficult to find PE Design software, and as you pointed out previously, most of the online software seems to be a scam. My Brother SE400 has a USB-B port, so I think I do not need a card reader, and can transfer the PES files directly from my computer to the sewing machine. Also, thank you for such a great tutorial.
I have not used Inkstitch, but I really want to check that out now! I'm a little familiar with InkScape, and I love open source software. Thanks for the recommendation! As long as you can save files as .PES, your Brother machines will be able to read the files. You're 100% correct about the USB port also, sounds like you know exactly what you're doing :)
I would love to see a tutorial where you digitize an image using the freehand tool. And if possible even mention the importance of layers and the order of stitches to create a “3D” effect
There's this channel John Deer's embroidery legacy. He has some good tutorials, but he works in Hatch. Basics are the same either case, but Hatch has more goodies and IMO better workflow, like Wilcom programs usually do. I only know that cause our school also used Wilcom, licenses are hefty.

Hey! Thanks for the comment here. I'll be doing a TON of videos on PE Design 11 and the PR-1055X, but I've been wildly busy with a big project. Hope to get to it sometime in April. Thanks for reaching out, hope you're enjoying your new gear 😀
Hehe he said dongle. ;) Great job at giving an easy entry point for beginners to be up and going in a few steps. It may be just the tip of the iceberg of what the software is capable of but howsoever it is a good starting point.
Great Video!!! As a newbie, I am excited to learn more and more about embroidery. We just purchased the Brother Entrepreneur 1050X and I am still learning. I look forward to more of your videos!
Honestly I just played around with the software until I figured all of this stuff out lol. There are a lot more features, and I'm planning on doing some more videos soon :)
I was looking for how to actually create a vector graphic design to use in my digitizing software vs having to use a raster graphic. I do not own this software so your video was not helpful for me but you explain how to use this software nicely.
Best tutorial on this topic. Love your teaching style and tutorials. I was torn between Sew What Pro and Embrilliance but after your amazing demonstration, I think I will go with the Brother. I have a Brother and wasn't aware this program existed. 😏
Tok, I just found you on YT by browsing, and your videos are great! I had to smile when you said in one that you have been teased and called 'Sewing Jesus'. Men have been sewing for centuries! My question is can you import SVG files into the Brother software? I have a Cricut and use SVG's, so it would be great to cross over intothe sewing realm with my already loved files. I am shopping for a sewing machine and theSE600 is enticing. My BabyLock BLDC has a broken gear (she is 16 years old 😢) and I have been a brand snob until I discovered that my machine and Brother's machiness are made in the same factory/take the same parts. My mechanic couldn't find a replacement gear and BL called me back last week and said they don't support my machine any more. That makes my 25 year warranty a joke.
Sorry to hear about your machine! That's a total bummer... I know vinyl cutters can use SVGs which work great for clean lines. I'm not certain if PE Design can read them though. I believe PE Design relies on "Rastering" color, which needs a more traditional JPG or PNG for generating graphics. I could be incorrect though, so its worth a shot. If it doesn't work, just save your vector image as a high res JPG and you should be fine :) Great question, I'm curious to know what you find!
I honestly don't know any software for mac's, just make sure whatever you get can create the proper file types for you type of machine (For example Brother machines read .PES files). Sorry I can't be more helpful, but I'm sure you can find something with a bit of research :)
Before you start designing, you should know hot to sew, how the needle creates satin stitches. The comprehension of needle's zigzag movement actually will help you decide to choose fill or satin stitch type. And also learning graphic software would give you easy process because you can create so many designs, and you can edit them and finally export them. Sometimes instead of using images you convert them to vectors and after that you kind of do not have to use the gradient part if there are any in design. These softwares does not have adobe illustrator or corel's capabilities. Wacom has that pipeline with corel but the package is expensive. However even with that expensive option, with graphic background your process will be so smooth.
This is all excellent info for sure. I didn't know any of this this stuff when I was new (obviously), but with lots of trial and error, practice, and determination these tasks have all become fairly easy :) Thanks for sharing your knowledge with everyone. Hope you have an excellent weekend!
Before increasing density,I might try an edge run underlay. The would neaten the edge better than density as even very dense stitching is limited by the weave of the fabric.
This is a terrific recommendation. A lot of times I'll use Twill for patches since it has a bit of a tighter weave, but denim is just so accessible and cheap. It's pretty wild how many factors come into play when doing even simple projects, but that's the fun part of seeing what works best for everyone. Thanks for the comment, hope you're having a great week!
This was so extremely helpful! Thank you so much. I was able to create a beautiful embroidery design for a friend's cosplay using this tutorial and my Ipad + PE Design 11.

Received embroidery machine as gift no knowledge of how to use your video was so informative and made it so easy to use my machine thank you.
Oh that's terrific! Hope you're enjoying getting into some basic embroidery right now!
Thank you so much! I was hoping to find a good simple to follow tutorial and info and this was the best I found!! So helpful! 👍🏻👍🏻
Excellent! I'm so happy this was helpful ❤
Best Pe-design video I've seen so far. Straight to the point without the long intro about what happened last week. Cheers 🙂
Hahahaha, I love this comment! I'll be coming out with some new videos on the current version soon (PE Design 11). Pretty much the same with some really cool new features :)
Hello I was wondering if you got the pe design 10 and if you did could I know where you bought it because I don’t know where to buy it.
thank you for this video! please continue to make more. i like the way you teach and explain!
You're so welcome! I've been doing a lot of new ones lately! Appreciate your positive support. Hope you have a great 2020!
Thank you so much this is very helpful. I am a total novice at this and tried the other day from a google image and it stitched out ok but I did not make to many changes as I did not understand how to do it, now watching your video gives me more confidence to try again. Please do more of these videos as I found you very helpful.
I'm happy this was so helpful! I've been getting more requests to do more content on embroidery tutorials, so I'll certainly be doing more of videos like this soon. I appreciate your support and feedback!
Can you draw a design, scan it into your computer, and upload to software ? Thank you. Great Video!
I was even looking at different programs but as someone else mentioned, other TH-camrs present the information in a sketchy way. Thanks for info! I have made my purchases to get started!🤞
Very happy to help! I'm planning to do some more in depth videos on this software very soon since they've added a lot of features. Appreciate the comment!
Oh that's a bummer, I didn't know the trial works like that :(
Thanks for watching though!
hey Tock, what type of format should the image be saved as so I can digitize it on brother pe?
Brother machines read .PES files for embroidery. Hope you're able to get everything working!
i just got a luminaire 3 and pe design 11 and you are the first person who actually can help me understand the process. i enjoy the way you show and explain things thank you so much
Great video!
Here I go! :)
When uploading an image on this software what file does it have to be in?
JPG works the best - but PNG's work well too as long as they don't have any transparent areas. The higher the resolution, the better 😀
hey, i want to learn all about embroidery.
If I can make my own, would it be easier to turn faster images into be tor for a cleaner look? Or does it not matter?
omg i am thinking of getting into custom embroidery for hobby/ business and was sort of thinking of not ... until i saw your video.
I wish I could put this comment in a bottle and send it to everyone who says "Why is it so expensive!?" lol
Thank you so much for watching, hope you're having a terrific evening!

Fab video thank you- it's the best explanation of PE10 on the net - everyone else makes it so complicated. Please do more PE10 videos. Thanks again!
You're so welcome, I appreciate you watching :) I have a few more ideas on some new videos to do with this software soon!
I know exactly what you're talking about with the grouping and framework stitches, I'll do my best to cover more details than this video :)
Thanks for the recommendation!
wonderful video! i've had this software and my brother se625 for about 4 years and haven't embroidered anything. recently, some1 requested a custom patch. ...i'm so excited now.
Finally! Someone puts out a good video on PE Design!!! Thank you! Please do more of these😁
I've gotten a lot of requests to do more content on this software, so I may be doing that soon.
@@sibadoba what about mac,is it compatible?

Hi Tockaliscious, It's boki bokimoto ... Thanks for these great teachings, just got my new machine today, se600 ...moist!

@@TockCustom Thank you, Tock. I appreciate your response.
I would love to see a tutorial where you digitize an image using the freehand tool. And if possible even mention the importance of layers and the order of stitches to create a “3D” effect
This is already on my list of new videos to make, since I always free-hand designs now. It just looks way better. Keep a look out!

@@TockCustom Thanks for your reply. Can't wait to see more of your video's. Continued success.
I was looking for how to actually create a vector graphic design to use in my digitizing software vs having to use a raster graphic. I do not own this software so your video was not helpful for me but you explain how to use this software nicely.
I'm pretty sure this software cant read vector or SVG files, but you can just save it as a JPG and use it that way. Thanks for watching :)

Thank you for or such a quick and precise tutorial that gets right to the point. I learned more from this than a two-hour tutorial I watched earlier!
Best tutorial ever
Thank you very much :D
If it doesn't work, just save your vector image as a high res JPG and you should be fine :)
Great question, I'm curious to know what you find!
@@TockCustom wow you do answer every comment! I haven't purchased a machine yet and wanted to know first. Thanks! I do love my Cricut cutters a lot.
Wow this is easy. Any software suggestions for Mac users? Thanks for sharing.
I didn't know any of this this stuff when I was new (obviously), but with lots of trial and error, practice, and determination these tasks have all become fairly easy :)
Thanks for sharing your knowledge with everyone. Hope you have an excellent weekend!
BEST VIDEO.. so great and super easy to follow! Thank you so much!!!!!
Thank you so much! Very happy this was so helpful to you. Hope you're having fun with graphics and embroidery :)
