  • To be fair, this is class, but you do indeed need Inventor 2019 update 2. File names for the frames in Frame Generator has always been a deal breaker for using it with something like Autodesk Vault, but now it's 100% Vault friendly!

    Thanks, Neil. We did a few nice additions to Frame Generator based on customer request with the 2019.2 update. Another thing to check out is that you can now change a frame member without creating an 'orphaned' member. i.e., if you change from rectangular to square tube and we now edit the existing member instead of creating a net new one and leaving the original orphaned as Inventor did previously.

    Awesome, Pretty sure this was one of the first features requested in Idea station back in the land before time.

    I just started using Inventor for my Introduction to Engineering course in school. I came across your channel and am in love. Videos like these are out of my league right now but you have so many videos that have taught me how to use this program. I really appreciate your videos. Keep up the good work.

    YESSSS!!! Now to sort out that design data folder and get rid of the duplicate files.

    I really like the new naming function. The issue that we have at my company is that every single member of the frame is it's out part. For example, the four vertical legs in your frame are the exact same thing, but yet Inventor still calls them out separate.

    You created a frame weldment inside the frame assembly. That is why you want the frame generator to be normal or purchased.
    I created a frame weldment then bring the frame weldment in next level for frame assembly.

    Hi Neil, thanks for the video. Can also do a video on "assembly configuration in inventor" its so difficult for me after moving from solidworks. like if i want few components to be visible and others not. And also be able to document in drawings and chek-in inside vault. Thanks a lot for videos.

    Finally, Autodesk adds this feature to Inventor 2019 but I found this add-on for $5 buck and it works the same. well, now I save $5 dollar. good job Autodesk. LOL

    I have a question about this new naming functionnality in frame. We have a Vault Pro 2019 which already impose a naming scheme for all inventor parts, including also frame parts. But since the update 2019.2 in Inventor, the Vault naming scheme doesn’t exist anymore for frame parts. Is it normal that now the Inventor naming scheme replace the Vault naming scheme for frame parts ?

    I just installed 2019.3 today and went to look for this and it wasn't there. I guess I need to install .2 as well. Pretty awesome though. Frame Gen files were a mess before

    • @Neil3D
      @Neil3D  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      2019.3 doesn't exist, 2019.2 is the latest version... are you sure you're not on 2018.3 or 2019.1.3? It's not in 2018 unfortunately.

      @@Neil3D hahaha I just looked again. I installed 2018.3. I have 18 and 19 on this machine and the Autodesk app manager told me to install it. I must not have been awake yet 👍😀

    A sheet-cut hopper? Welded to a standard flange? With frames? What the heck is that part :o it has no exit holes.

    • @Neil3D
      @Neil3D  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Haha well I'm not an engineer but I don't think that's a hopper - it's a bellmouth of some sort which a tether cable goes through for a subsea vehicle... but I deleted 80% of the parts from it for IP protection so it's basically nothing, I just used it as an example for the part numbering

    • @dimitar4y
      @dimitar4y 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Neil3D I wish IP wasn't a thing so you can share the wonderful, interesting, and poorly/cringe designed parts you get to see on a daily basis.

    Why are you so worried of duplicate filenames on vault?

    • @EzekielCz
      @EzekielCz 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Never ever EVER allow users to have duplicates in ANY PDM system. .... Do you want to use the same part in other project? Use THAT part, do not create second "same" part. Reuse what you need

    • @Neil3D
      @Neil3D  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yea it's one of the baddest of bad practices and a position you don't want to be in, imagine you have 400 files called 'bracket.ipt' and you didn't make any of them but Inventor has a missing reference to bracket.ipt... how the heck would you know which one of the 400 you're meant to use? That would be a very long day. It's the same (almost) for frames as you might end up with 400 parts called called ISO 80x80 000001.ipt all at different lengths, and something could easy happen for Inventor to end up using the wrong one. So Vault lets you stop people from putting in a file if the name already exists... which caused hell with the frame generators cos the names made where always the same as the last time you used it.

  • @Mtaalas
    @Mtaalas 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    The frame generator is so lacking in so many ways. A very powerful feature shot to the foot by some idiotic limitations and clunky use... I really hope it would get the love it requires in the future.
