    To round up the parameter lenght, try the following: Create a second parameter, for example lenght2, it is defined as ceil((lenght) / 1 mm) * 1 mm, the result will be the full next unit, so 11,1mm will get 12mm, 23,5mm will get 24mm and so on. If you use ceil((lenght) / 10 mm) * 10 mm it will round up to the next full ten. 23mm will get 30mm, 56,8 will get 60mm. The function floor makes the same in the other direction. I don't know if it is possible to round the summary of the pieces in the BOM. Normally the ERP system is responsible for this. Use this parameter as Export.

    Hi Jockey, Thanks alot for the tut, I used it as instructed and it work brill. BUT I then would like to have a count of how many of each of the ipart in my BOM. Is this possible? Or have I missed a step somewhere? Or am I just thick? Cheers again

    Is there a way to use this system, but in an iAssembly? So you place an iAssembly, fill in a custom length that it updates, but with some other components constrained to it?

    great video, CAN YOU MAKE THAT THE INFO OF EACH iPART APPEARS SEPARATELY IN THE PARTLIST, I DONT WANT THE TOTAL LENGHT OF THREE PARTS, I WANT THE LENGHT OF EACH ONE, LIKE: ITEM1 800mm ; ITEM2 500mm ; ITEM3 1000mm...etc

    I love this, but I'm having an issue of where Inventor saves the Member. I'd like to set a location for the Member save, but it's just adding it to my Working Folder and I cannot find any way to change this. The Interweb has a zillion different ideas, but none of them work. You seem to know what you're doing, so I hope you have a fix.

    Hello, this tutorial is very uesefull. How about iassembly. Can we use custom length (extrusion) of one part (let's say master part) to controll the length of other parts i.e. if I put 300mm on master part in assembly, can other parts have same length generated automatically?

    Would it be possible to create iparts this way of valves? It would not be the length that differs, but a custom property called "TAG" each valve has it's own TAG number, but now I need to copy each valve to a new part and change TAG's

    I am making iparts like these now. I need to make a sketch that reports the partlength to parameters as a driven value. I must do this do to miters and notching (repeat must).
    So each variation has a different part length. When I try to bring partlength parameter into the table to be exported to the partlist for the drawing, Inventor populates the entire column with the active part length. Under no circumstances can I have actively linked part lengths in my drawing part list. I have a workaround, but I would like an active link that updates when I change the input variables in the table. I this possible?

    Have you given anymore thought to mapping the cut length
    into the file name? This would be extremely helpful for me. Please let me know
    if you have any tips to accomplish this task. Thank you…

    •  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you publish your iPart to the Content Center, it is possible. In the Content Center table editor you can use expressions for the columns, so it's possible to include the "length" parameter in the file name column.

    • @amlgarrett
      @amlgarrett 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      What I do with this is I open the excel spreadsheet for the factory and run a "concatenate" function to populate the length in as part of the filename. iPart factories have their downsides, they are difficult to manage in the vault system (very difficult to move), so the only time we use them is when publishing a part to the content center. Hope this helps.

    This is a great overview! but I got a question, is it possible to limit the length base on material availability? Like If it's more than the standard length, the BOM will generate another column so you can order per unit length rather than doing the calculation in manual to order?

    Thanks a big help this one, could I do a similar thing but with the extrusion length adaptive? I have tried this and failed but I was using the joint feature instead of the constraint command, would this render further constraints impossible? i.e. placing the part then constraining the end to create the length through the adaptive extrusion. I am trying to place aluminium flat bar into slots which can vary many times and may also be subject to design change which is where the adaptive feature would come into play.
    Thanks...

  • @Dariusz_Zemczak

    It would be perfect to name member with length. If we are working with Vault and for example 2 designers create the same part with the same length, it would create 2 exacly the same parts with different names. It is not an big issue but it might be confusing. Currently we deal with that ipart has all the lengths options with 1 mm accuracy but the problem is that such an ipart works slowly if it has 6000 possibilities.

    • @garvindreis
      @garvindreis ปีที่แล้ว

      If your working with vault, it would be better to convert the iPart to a Content Center part in vault and tie your projects to the vault content center. It will save the content center parts as lengths.

    Thanks for the vid, your the man for sure. Can I pick ya huge Brain please? I need to set up a ipart as you have shown - Brill, then add a left and right ipart together - still no problem - but now I would like to add this sub assembly into an assembly but still be able to adjust the length to suit my design of the day. Can this be done in one go? or do you have to use the table for each part and change component.

    I am attempting to incorporate iParts at my workplace. Most of our designs require custom cut lengths. Is there a way to name the member as the length parameter? I haven't found a way yet. Also is it possible to avoid duplicating the member if the same length is entered?
    P.S. I have recently discovered your page and I enjoy the videos! Keep up the good work!

      True... that's how I've always documented this sort of stuff. Then you could give a length descriptive name sting in the description field rather than getting the "multiple valued apply" fuckery...

    I like very much the way you teach Inventor specially the iParts. Can you do a training or help me in develope an Ipart Brick Wall?
    The way I visualize it is, that I will have a wall with two or maybe more sizes. But just to start with something imple, I would like to understand the array and the offset when you place a second row or alternating the bricks.
    One more thing, could be that the dimensions change and will rebuilt and place more bricks.
    And the third item needed is that there will be cut pieces that will be none standard size.
    The sizes could be 9"x6"x3" 4 1/2"x6"x3" (to be able to start the next row by offsetting half full brick and the cut pieces will have Lx6"x3".
    Can be possible? I really appreciate all the help I can get to do this.
    Thank you so much

    What happens when you create a length that has once been created already?
    example: part 01 was 500mm, two years later you create part87 that is also 500mm
    Does inventor recognize this? Does it even really matter?

  • @cruciferousvegetable

    Love these videos. Thanks.
    I would not make qty length. You can bring the length variable in to the parts list directly or put a sketch on the part called partlength and export as custom param. I use the bom structure and qty to put out a quantity.
    What I want to know is how to make a drawing for the factory or one part and get a new drawing for each new part. Especially for putting different notching or features in each iteration which is possible on a custom ipart. Also, how to move ipart files.

    Isn't the parts list wrong? There are three parts. Shouldn't there be three items in the parts list?

    • @Neil3D
      @Neil3D  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Luke Niederhauser No m8 it's intentional, as all 3 parts are the same part (they all have the same part number), Inventor combines them. In this case it combines them and says look, all 3 of these are the same and you need 1.8m of it. If the parts were counted as 'each', it would combine them and just say you need 3 of these. Imagine the parts list for a massive machine with 300 of the same type of washer in it, it would be a pretty crazy sized parts list if it had 300 lines in the parts list for the same washer!

    • @pietervdwest
      @pietervdwest 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Luke Niederhauser
      Typically the Part Number field should be the unique identifier and the Stock Number the same indicating that the three diff parts were cut from the same stock. Neil had it the other way around and then Inventor will show it like he had it in his drawing. Typically in Vault for instance you would not be able to assign the same Part or Item number to three parts which are physically different. They should each have a unique Part Number.

    • @pietervdwest
      @pietervdwest 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Luke Niederhauser
      A Quick fix could be to switch off "Part Number Row Merge" in the BOM Window. That should then display the items separately.

    • @Neil3D
      @Neil3D  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Pieter van der Westhuizen I think it might differ based on where somebody works. In all the places I've worked it would be the same part number as in this example, you're buying the same part from a supplier, you're just then cutting it to a custom length once you're received it. If they came in pre-cut sizes then it would be different part numbers I guess.

    • @Neil3D
      @Neil3D  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Pieter van der Westhuizen Just in addition to this, I've just noticed the mention of Vault Pro and items. I can't speak for every company, but for every Vault Pro implementation I've done the part number would be the same even when using Vault items. Take an O-ring for example, one O-ring can have multiple separate IPT files representing the same part just modeled at a different stretch radius, you'd then have 1 item with those multiple files linked to it because each file represents the same O-ring. You release the item, it releases multiple files. I can't see the logic in having multiple items all with different part numbers representing the same part, that would surely be unmanageable?
