Regarding purchasing it depends on where you live - up here in Canada CP19s are rare birds (I had to go to Upstate NY to get mine) - there is a Compac Owners Association which sometimes features boats for sale. These are very easy boats to keep and maintain, requiring little more than basic maintenance, such as waxing and refinishing woodwork. I give all my woodwork a lightsanding each Spring and a coat of Cetol natural teak - the important thing is to keep on top of dings and spot finish during the season to prevent water stains and lifting of the finish. I always keep mine covered during winter storage. While they can be trailer sailed, depending on your tow vehicle its best to have a seasonal slip, as this is a rather heavy boat and the stub keel can make it difficult to recover on a trailer. You need a good, deep ramp. A four wheel drive makes for worry- free retrieval.

The only issues with mine are some cosmetic cracks in the gelcoat on the deck and main bulkhead, which I think may be due to layup issues at the factory (i.e., air voids under the glass laminate), but not a structural concern. I would also look carefully at the mast step, or rather, the underlying deck surface as there is a plywood reinforcement block incorporated in the FG, and the screws that hold the mast step sometimes open up and allow water - heard of rot occurring in the ply in some boats if the area is not sealed. Mine has the standard stub keel and is one of the few CP19s to be fitted with a stainless steel CB and CB case. I believe my boat was one of the last out the factory door.
