Actually, we have a lot of tourists. In fact, last year we had more than Thailand. However, our tourist come mostly from South Asia, Southeast Asia, EastA-sia and the Middle East. Not white folks. We have a large community of Koreans and Japanese living in Malaysia. Along with Chinese tourist and the daily commute of Singaporeans to Malaysia for holidays and shopping. Indonesians are regular visitors to Malaysia especially for medical tourism. During hot-summer season, we have a huge influx of Middle Eastern tourist. We also have tens of thousands of international students in our various public and private universities and private schools as Malaysia is an Education Hub. Thailand is our close family and I would love for tourists to visit both Malaysia and Thailand as West Malaysia is connected by land. Why pick only one when you can go to both and maybe make a rendezvous to Singapore too. All you need to do is search for Malaysia in TH-cam and you will find so many vlogs.
Malaysia is becoming popular with Australians now. I'm from Australia and there was an article published in Australia's largest news site about how Malaysia is rising in popularity among Australian travellers.

Malaysia is more into family oriented Thailand is more into entertainment. If you intend to relocate with your family then malaysia is the place. Food, accomodation, transportation are really affordable. Malaysia has one of the best health care in the world.
Thailand is more for backpackers. Malaysia tend to attract more high value visitors from Japan, Korea, UK and the Middle East with money and plans to retire there as well.
Why do you have to worry whether they are rich or budget tourists while they have flied over the ocean to boost your tourism industry? They use money not blank paper to pay for traveling. And expected that in 2024 Thailand will have 100 billion USD revenue from tourism industry.
I travelled in Thailand and in Malaysia 34 years ago ! (1990) And that was also my conclusion... Malaysia was already very much underrated compared to Thailand ! So I have to smile when someone today just discovers that fact ! 😉
Malaysian government ( the local district and town councils etc.) is trying to house all the street food vendors and hawkers in food courts in order to make sure that the streets stay clean and also to see to the safety of the customers. It is also to avoid traffic jams on busy roads.
Nice video! I'm glad I went to Malaysia for a visa run, I ended up really enjoying it much more than I ever expected to. I love that Thailand is so close and it's very easy to go in between the two.

I think one of the biggest differences between Malaysia and its neighboring countries that is worth pointing out is the crime rate... because Malaysia banned drugs and monitored the use of alcohol, you can see the crime rate is pretty low over here... Love your vlog! You pretty much nailed it about Malaysia with so little time spent here. Your powers of observation is top notch! As a non-muslim Malaysian, I'm glad we're a Country that doesn't have such low morals as our neighbours up north.Personally, i strongly believe, drugs in any form whether it's weed smoking or the more hardcore ones and prostitution will doom a Country! As i see it our neighbours up north is one Country in Southeast Asia who'll spiral to their doom simply because their leaders are openly embracing and supporting all these sinful and degenerate vices!
Welocome to Malaysia and thank you for such a good vlog🎉 Both countries have their unique culture, food and eco system. Thailand is our good neighbour country, Msian travel there a lot2. It will be great to experience both countries🎉❤

Thank you, Sean. I love your presentation and style and comparative ideas. As a Thai, I enjoy your observations on things that's straightforward and agree with you totally abouit Thaiand and Malaysia. The people in Malaysia do speak more English. Partly because it's been the country's policy and it's easier for Malaysians to learn English as they use Latin alphabet in their language. And the multi-racial society calls for communication in English. I love traveling in Malaysia a lot too. Keep up the good work and I'm sure your subscription will grow more very quickly. All the best, Sean.
Goes to show when you have good qualities, your reputation will travel further. What we have is different than Thailand, and that's special. We should protect and nurture it.
Great observations - I am just about to return to Malaysia for a quick three week trip after being a SE Asia backpacker 35 years ago. Thailand was awesome back in 1990, clearly not all set up with the backpacker tours and minibus transfers that are now the norm, but I remember crossing the border from Thailand to Malaysia and it seemed just that much more advanced in terms of infrastructure, transport, cleanliness and ability to communicate with the locals. Don't get me wrong loved both places, spent 3 months in Thailand (90 day visa on arrival was the norm at that time) and only couple of weeks in peninsula Malaysia. Looking forward to another small dose of SE Asia in the coming weeks, and now being aged mid-50's Malaysia might be the right fit for my demographic! Great video btw.
I've noticed a large number of new uber-deluxe, 5-star and 6-star hotels pop up in KL lately. This is the direction that Malaysia wants. Just like how it changed its MM2H long-term visa stay that requires you invest a half-million to a million bucks into the country for a long-term stay visa, and keep money in the bank and buy a high-end condo
Loved both countries. Kind of blew me away and made me fall in love with Southeast Asia. Love how safe I felt everywhere I went. Visit both and get a full spectrum of experience that makes ASEAN so awesome. :) PS Imagine if the west had food culture options like ASEAN (street food, street snacks, etc) … great for entrereneurs and great for people like me who miss the variety of tastes and palettes😂
Sean, thank you for promoting a bit bout malaysia. Actually malaysia is not lacking of tourist annually from statistic view. It is just because you dont see crowd of westerner tourist all over the place in malaysia. Malaysia never promoting tourism for bacpacking or budget tourist but targeting more on retirees, family, long term vacation etc. malaysia has the highest number for muslim tourist and traveller. Malaysia also promoting targeted group most from china, japan, korea. Thats why you dont see much tourist because the most tourist is asian mostly neighbouring country indonesia, phillipines, thai and many muslim countries tourist especially middle eastern tourist that flocking and targeting but the country. It is not that we not promoting to westerner, but the westerner is more on solo travelling and we focus for long term vacation for westerner traveller with nomad bisa, mm2h program, 90 days visa free for most western countries etc. Foreighner wont be able to distinguish whose local and whose tourist in malaysia because they all look the same as the malaysian because we have many local malay, chinese, indian even arabs and speak their languages also. Thats the unique about malaysia with tagline " MALAYSIA TRULY ASIA"😂😂😂😂
I'm from Malaysia, and I agree with your point of view representing backpackers, because it's tough to locate a budget accommodation when touring the islands of Malaysia.
sorry to say this...weed is 100000% illegal in Malaysia... alcohol is expensive in Malaysia.. Malaysia never force you to come in...but you are WELCOME by Malaysia and Malaysian. underated for Malaysia is better . and Malaysia is not S E X TOURISM promotion country.
Drugs are rife in Malaysia, particularly among the Malays. Alcohol is no more expensive than many other countries. Sex is available easily and especially from young Muslimah who don't want to be married to a local and suffer a lifetime of abuse.
There are many many food hawkers under the shelters in Bangkok providing full meal type of food. But you just did not do your research enough to know the place. Actually some food hawkers are just in walking distance from Lumpini Park where you filmed.
Malaysia is among the top 10 best retirement location in the world for 2024 nominated by Retirement index. The top in Asia because mostly other 9 countries are in Latin america & Europe.
So it is my wish also as a Malaysian . if we are underated ,its ok as long as we can lead a healtthy normal ife as a Malaysian im fine with it .Our source of income could come from elsewhere beside tourism . But if there anyone who wish to visit Malaysia you are most welcomed eventhough we dont offer as much excitement as our neigjbours

I nearly visited Kuala Lumpur back in 2022 but instead chose Bangkok; though I do plan to visit KL when I visit Asia again. The biggest factor for me was the transit system and cost of food/lodging. Malaysia tends to be a little more expensive in those regards. When I visit new countries its not about the parties or alcohol its about experiencing a new culture by speaking with locals, trying the foods and of course long walks around the city hopefully finding hidden gems. Travel is what you make of it and for me its expanding the horizons and learning more about myself in the process.
Pls come to Borneo, East Malaysia next time. You’ll shock knowing we got more than 70 ethnic speaking different languages and lots of cultures and celebrations! And much easier to get beer or local produce alcohol 😀
Not because of Muslim country. The gov took an advice from ministry of health department & other departments or agencies. Not to promote cigarette & booze. So they're highly taxed. However visitors enjoy cheaper booze at certain areas such as free duty area.
Malaysia is not relying much in tourism as our main source of income. We are not suitable for backpacking because our set up is different and the people prefer things to be organised and having a well dressed people around. We are working hard towards being a developed country status. Physically you will see that we are a modern society, appreciate beauty and cleanliness. We have high tech facilities and infrastructures.
In short, Bangkok is great for decadence and good food, and Malaysia is great for families and great food. If you want to know why Malaysia is never reported on by western media, all you have to know is Malaysia is a beautiful, very safe and family friendly country that happens to be predominantly Muslim.
Ive been in Malaysia for over 3 months, & i find your video to be the most accurate overview and fair. What surprised me was the lack of homeless people / drug addicts that you usually see in large capital cities - well done to Malaysia for their hard stance on drugs.

@Bunggil You can easily cook at home. Sautéed prawns w garlic and oil. Once fragrant ,crack 2 eggs scrambled add 2 cups water, sesame oil, oysters sauce, soy sauce, sugar, white pepper and let it boil. Then add the laksa noodles or bihun (30%)and yellow mee(70%). Add tauge bean sprouts, and Chinese chives(cover the pan/wok but if u like them more raw then add last).
So true. Very bright explanations and facts
@@user-jt3dw6vv4x I welcome you to visit Malaysia.
Dear Sean, I think your analysis of thailand and malaysia is one of the best that i have come across so far on youtube. Congrats.
Pretty accurate description of Malaysia vs Thailand. As a Malaysian, lets stay underrated.
Keep malaysia a secret. We love it that way. 😅
So, we have to boycott Malaysia isn't it?
@@aungmyintoo4635yes you can do that. It will gain more visitors to come to Malaysia. 😂

Malaysia is more into family oriented
Thailand is more into entertainment. If you intend to relocate with your family then malaysia is the place. Food, accomodation, transportation are really affordable. Malaysia has one of the best health care in the world.
It's great that you have made this video. I hope some people in US with Islamophobia gets some eye opener..
Thailand is more for backpackers. Malaysia tend to attract more high value visitors from Japan, Korea, UK and the Middle East with money and plans to retire there as well.
Bag Packers?
Backpacker is the term
@@najairashid3976 that's the correct term.
@@samraj3179 My bad. Corrected.
Fake.
Yeah, I definitely enjoyed Malaysia more than I expected to as well.
I’ve been watching your videos ever since you were in Bali, and it’s been awesome to see you get settled in Malaysia.
As neighbours we love each other. Actually the 2nd highest visitors to thailand is malaysian. First is chinese mainland.
It's great that the two countries get along so well!
I wish that was the case in more of the world. The moment we got to South Korea, I got a lot of "we hate Japan" vibes.
@@SeanGranseeTravel lol
sometime we malaysians are the highest visitors to thailand.
@@SeanGranseeTravelHistorical speaking, because of Japanese occupation of Korea and the brutal treatment of the local Koreans by the then Japanese government, it will take a long time to forgive the perpetrator.
We are good with our neighbours. Don't worry.@@SeanGranseeTravel
I think one of the biggest differences between Malaysia and its neighboring countries that is worth pointing out is the crime rate... because Malaysia banned drugs and monitored the use of alcohol, you can see the crime rate is pretty low over here... Malaysia just listed as one of the safest countries in the world, so we don't mind if we're underrated, just keep it that way.
Yes, I did feel incredibly safe in Malaysia.
Malaysia and Thailand are top2 crime rate in Southeast asia
Malaysia has significant crime and drug use, stop with the lies.
Thanks to the Islamic regulation in place where non-muslims can't go full chaos like in Thailand. To the Muslims in Malaysia, they call it the blessing from Allah (Rahmatan Fiil Alaamiin).
@@apuspeak8764 What a vile statement but pretty much expected from a Malay exposed to the biased teaching of state school. The last time there was full chaos here was in 1969 when you Malays started the race riots.

You probably have more viewerships in Malaysia due to language proficiency. Most people can speak or at least understand English. Malaysian loves their food and at the same time you could quite easily find Thai 🇹🇭, Japanese 🇯🇵, Korean , Middle East and of course western food around.
You’re correct. 80% of the audience for this video is in Malaysia. And only 2% in Thailand.
Good keep it that way... under rated... I'm Malaysian...
we malaysian loves thailand too, the food the scenery...as tourist that is, at the end of the day we would love to go back to Malaysia and have some good old roti canai and the tarik

Aloha, thanks for taking the time to put together your thoughts. My wife and I have started our world travel journey after retiring in January. I am presently in Cambodia (honestly a bit disappointed), but I will be off to Kuching, Malaysia, in a couple of days. Only know a little bit about it. I've been in Kuala Lumpur number of times but my best time was in Borneo Island/East Malaysia. I visited Miri city and vicinity I enjoyed so much that Island which is shared with Indonesia and Sultanate of Brunei. Borneo is fantastic.
Borneo mostly is, Brunei is not.
@@byteme9718 Brunei is beautiful one of the cleanest and safest state I've visited. Sharia law but as a tourist I loved it.
@@tiborzkarate1 It's clean in parts tourists visit but like all Malays the people have little regard for the environment so other areas are full of plastic rubbish. It's deadly boring and devoid of any evidence of it's history. It's Shariah is based on a very perverse interpretation and visitors can very easily fall foul of it.
@@tiborzkarate1 It's a country, one that used to have a vast empire. It's not a state! What you see in terms of rubbish depends on where you but like all Malays, they have little regard for the environment. You must have stuck to the tourist areas. The local Shariah is perverse and dangerous.
Thank you for the honest opinion of us. Please come back to Malaysia.
As Malaysian, I support the high price of liquor. This is a country where you can enjoy yourself without liquor.
Tourism in malaysia is not the biggest thing for us. So we do not care much who wants to visit us and for how long. Our main revenue is from oil / gas and manufacturing. But due to multi cultural environment , our food is more varied.
Yeah, Malaysia definitely feels like more of a self-sustaining economy. I feel like Thailand would struggle quite a bit if all the tourists stopped coming, but that doesn't feel like the case in Malaysia.
@SeanGranseeTravel gdp per capita, singapore, Brunei, malaysia are the top 3 although thailand and indonesia have good gdp in asean(2nd and 1st biggest economy)

This comment is totally untrue as we are actively promoting our country as the main tourism centre in asia hence we have the tagline of malaysia truly asia and the income generated from tourism is huge so no one in their right mind would undermine tourism to their country
But can we agreed that if we keep this behaviour, we are the lose one
nice review ❤️. for malaysian gov to take note for improvement in tourism industry.
Malaysia is truly Asia...
No!

Thank you so much for the kind words!
Fun fact, malaysia beat thailand to become the no.1 most visited country in southeast asia last year.

Yes, those backward Malays always get everything wrong.
Selling high price visas attracts criminals.
Ya.....keep it under rated....we love it that way....❤❤❤
Thank you... proud to be a Malaysian.

Malaysia is best kept secret. We don't want to be like Phuket or Bali.
Bali is far better than Malaysia because Muslims make up a tiny minority.
Very interesting comparison. I have been to neither country but want to visit Malaysia in particular.
Welcome to Malaysia 🎉
Thank you! 😊

Drugs are rife in Malaysia, particularly among the Malays. Alcohol is no more expensive than many other countries. Sex is available easily and especially from young Muslimah who don't want to be married to a local and suffer a lifetime of abuse.

Yeah thai win in cost of food and booze but malaysia win in cost of condominium rent and cheap petrol. Good in long term staying.
Hi I would visit more than just KL if you visit Malaysia.
You can speak English with Malaysians, it is our second language.
Sir.. We’re proudly Malaysian btw 🎉💕💕 we feel happy if our neighbors country is your favorite!! Enjoy your life as long as you can..🙌🏼🙌🏼
Thailand much more variety of choices to discover so malaysian tourists top list of visitors to Thailand every year
Try come to visit Jakarta the capital city of Indonesia, there are alot huge mall ,.. and to Bali & Lombok❤
