Lyrics:
[Verse 1: C.L. Smooth]
I reminisce for a spell, or shall I say think back
Twenty-two years ago to keep it on track
The birth of a child on the 8th of October
A toast, but my granddaddy came sober
Countin' all the fingers and the toes
Now I suppose you hope the little black boy grows
Huh, eighteen years younger than my mama
But I rarely got beatings 'cause the girl loved drama
In single parenthood, there I stood
By the time she was 21, had another one
This one's a girl, let's name her Pam
Same father as the first, but you don't give a damn
Irresponsible, plain not-thinking
Papa said chill but the brother keep winking
Still he won't down you or tear out your hide
On your side while the baby maker slide
But mama got wise to the game
The youngest of five kids, hon here it is
After 10 years without no spouse
Momma's gettin married and a house
Listen, positive over negative for the women and master
Mother Queen's rising a chapter
Déjà vu, tell you what I'm gonna do
When they reminisce over you, my God
[Bridge 1: Pete Rock]
My God
It's so
Yeah, so lovely
That's how we like to do it in the 90's
Pete Rock & CL Smooth comin' atcha
[Verse 2: C.L. Smooth]
When I date back I recall a man off the family tree
My right hand Poppa Doc I see
Took me from a boy to a man so I always had a father
When my biological didn't bother
Taking care of this, so who am I to bicker
Not a bad ticker but I'm clocking pop's liver
But you can never say that his life is through
Five kids at 21 believe he got a right too
Here we go while I check the scene
With the Portuguese Lover at the age of 14
The same age, front page, no fuss
But I bet you all your dough they live longer than us
Never been senile, that's where you're wrong
But give the man a taste and he's gone
Noddin' off, sleep to a jazz tune
I can hear his head banging on the wall in the next room
I get the pillow and hope I don't wake him
For this man do cuss, hear it all in verbatim
Telling me how to raise my boy unless he's taking over
I said pop maybe when you're older
We laughed all night about the hookers at the party
My old man standing, yelling "Good God Almighty"
Use your condom, take sips of the brew
When they reminisce over you, for real
[Bridge 2: Pete Rock]
For real, baby
Like that
We for real
Comin' atcha
In '92
Pete Rock & CL Smooth
Yeah, c'mon, hit me!
[Verse 3: C.L. Smooth]
I reminisce so you never forget this
The days of way-back, so many bear witness the fitness
Take the first letter out of each word in this joint
Listen close as I prove my point
T to the R the O-Y, how did you and I meet?
In front of Big Lou's, fighting in the street
But only you saw what took many time to see
I dedicate this to you for believing in me
Rain or shine, yes, in any weather
My Grandmom Pam holds the family together
My Uncle Doc's the greatest, better yet the latest
If we're talking about a car, Uncle Sterling got the latest
I strive to be live 'cause I got no choice
And run my own business like my Aunt Joyce
So Pete Rock hit me, 'nough respect due
When they reminisce over you, listen
[Outro: Pete Rock]
Listen, just listen
To the funky song as I rock on
And that's word is bond
I'm not playin'
Everybody, just coolin'
This song we dedicate
To the one and only
Never be another
He was my brother
Trouble T-Roy
It's like that y'all
And you don't stop
Pete Rock and CL Smooth for '92
And we out, later

I like this alot !
When this intro came over NBA STREET. You knew it was game time!!!
nothin but facts. I still remember the sound it makes when you select on the menu screen. they couldn’t have picked a better track for the best street game there will ever be
You ain't lying..
Volume 2
Straight 🔥
Omg I was just saying to my boi can they plzzzz make a re mastered nba street 2 too PS4🙏💯🙌🙌
One of the greatest tracks in Hip Hop. People always say Hip Hop is such a negative genre, I point them towards this. It used to be beautiful
It use to be.
It used to be be once upon a time
This was my youth and I'll be the first to admit that today's music isn't something that I feel, well most of it. Truth is that the reason this song is so good is that it comes from a time when I was partying and hanging out with friends all night almost every night. Today music doesn't hold anything for me because life has moved on but you can be sure some kid out there is vibing to something I don't like and he's with his boys. Twenty years from now he'll be bitching about his current state of music. Today's rap isn't bad I just have to look harder for the things I like.
I cant take the radio rap knowing I came from the golden era of the true hip hop essence and now i see what it has become..its tough. 🤷🏾♀️
Used to man… couple of young ones keeping it alive but they’re definitely not touching the classics like such
I remember seeing posters of CL Smooth and Pete Rock in my brother's room in like '91
I LOVED THE EARLY SOUNDS OF 90S HIP HOP WITH THE INTERGATION OF JAZZ SAMPLES...SUCH A VIBE
YOU DONT NEED TO TYPE IN ALL CAPS
@@ProGamer-lk9qw WHY NOT
@@Lordy-Lord I DONT REALLY KNOW, BUT UTS NOT NECCASSARY. BUT IF YOU WANT TO POLITELY GO AHEAD
Omg. Such a vibe!
I was born in 04 and fell in love wit 90’s hip hop it’s funny cuz people of my generation don’t know nuthin like this
One of the greatest songs ever.
Ever!!!
Agreed
Probably the best !!!!
The greatest beat ever 😊
All genre.
Golden Age! Golden Age! Proud that I was witness to all of it including this mega gem! I'm in my 40s now and yeah maybe I wish I was younger, but I wouldn't trade my era for nothing in this world!
Straight up!!! I just turned 43.
Man I miss this era so much. I tried to be open minded to today's hip hop but can't deal with mumble rap. No substance and lyricism whatsoever.
I'm 37. The 90s were amazing. Now we understand why our parents were so fond of their era and music. We're getting old yo!
@@judahslion5611 90's was legendary to grow up in. Think about this. We used to think it was normal for a classic album to drop almost every other week. It's why I saved everything I could for tapes and cds.
@@InfectedChris
I'm jealous-- I wish I would've saved all my tapes and CDs. I had so damn many! I was such an old soul at a young age that I refused to buy CDs and only bought cassette tapes for the most part until the early 2000s. Once I started buying CDs I ended up re-buying all the classics...
Pete Rock in a 2007 interview with Village Voice:
I had a friend of mine that passed away, and it was a shock to the community. I was kind of depressed when I made it. And to this day, I can't believe I made it through, the way I was feeling. I guess it was for my boy. When I found the record by Tom Scott, basically I just heard something incredible that touched me and made me cry. It had such a beautiful bassline, and I started with that first. I found some other sounds and then heard some sax in there and used that. Next thing you know, I have a beautiful beat made. When I mixed the song down, I had Charlie Brown from Leaders of the New School in the session with me, and we all just started crying."
That’s hip hop
grown men crying over a beat? pause
One of the greatest Hip Hop songs of all times.
Just Listen and learn a lesson for LIFE. PEACE.
Yep, just like water . So amazing track. From Spain,2023

Ever since I found it I had it repeat considering I found it the other day
The '90s vibe is eternal. Wish CL n Pete Rock would give us another album in our alloted time. Long live Hip Hop. Greetings from Azania 🇿🇦. 1❤️
Probably one of the greatest dedication songs in Hip Hop of all-time.
Pete Rock did a masterful job on the Tom Scott sample. RIP Trouble T-Roy. He was a good dude.

Here on February 2021, this song is still a number one hit.
Word !!
Dude, thx for not copy pasting "who's listening in 21,"I hate these ppl so much .probably actually not even that special how you phrased it cause whoever appreciates this song still is a smart guy
💯
Now this is rhythm and blues= true rap!!! Own by us!!!
Yo 92 was something else all the way around. If you missed it! YOU MISSED IT!
I still miss it
I wasnt born until the late 2000s
@@cashoutmamman Peace Fam!
I Reminisce I Reminisce 🔥
The greatest hiphop song of all time
Indeed
You’re crazy sorry to say it. The sample and beat is crazy. But lyrically, it’s really basic. No double entendres, crazy metaphors, or hard hitting bars. Biggie and many more after who stood the the test of time, have made much better. Jay Z, gang Starr, black starr, the lox and so much more.
@@aldo9937 IKR. So many Hip Hop classics. A great song and trip down memory lane but I don't think it's on the same level as Dear Mama, One Mic, Juicy, Paid in Full, or even The Breaks.
💯
There isn’t even a close second!!
I miss this sound! Instantly transported back in time.
This is one of the greatest songs in rap history. No doubt. That Rhythm tho…Long Live CL & Pete. 🦋🙏

Shit so hard they flow was to cold back then
31 years ago today Trouble T Roy passed away. Trouble T Roy was killed by an accidental fall at the age of 22. On July 14, while on tour in Indianapolis, he and others were having fun after a performance and walking on a raised exit ramp outside the arena. During the commotion, someone pushed a trash barrel down the ramp. Troy got on the ledge to avoid the trash barrel, however he lost his balance and fell from a height of approximately two stories, and hit his head. He was rushed to the hospital, where he died the next day. #PeteRock & #CLSmooth Classic song "They Reminisce Over You (T.R.O.Y.)" was inspired by Trouble T Roy’s death. #riptroubletroy
Did the person who pushed it ever get held accountable

When I was like ten years old I listened to this song the first time!
I didn't understand one word but the melody hit me!
In 2008 or 2010 I had the luck to get two tickets for cl smooth in Düsseldorf, Germany!
A really small club with maybe 100 people in the audience!
One of the best live performances in my life!
And I've seen Eminem together with D12!
But Cl gives just the nicest old school feeling!
