That was super respectful of u. Salute king

Interesting tid-bits in this thread. Seems like these old school hip hop cats were just built different.

Can someone explain to me how such a musically and culturally important group like Tribe is NOT in the hall of fame by now?!
Who cares about those empty titles?
They really need to be.
They're not talked about enough, but if anything, that adds to their legend. They will be FOREVER legendary, especially further into the future we get.. Classics.. Pure gold.
They will be in the hall one day

There is no hip hop group better than Tribe. I met Phife at ATL Airport back in summer of 1996. I had my walkman on me & had the Midnight Marauders cassette in my walkman
. He signed the liner notes & told me their next album was about to drop. Which i was already anxiously awaiting. I will never forget that moment

Ah, the 90s - when hip hop had more chill than my morning coffee!
I'm having my morning coffee to this on repeat. One great element of today's generation is the repeat loops.
I had the grand opportunity to be an American teenager, going off to University to study music in 1993. If the younger generation ever hears us complaining about today's music, just know THIS is what is in our DNA, in our bones. I'm so happy this was my era, but happy too that y'all youngins can experience it whenever you like also. Just like I' m sure older generations cannot describe how it felt to be alive during their teenaged years, it is difficult to explain the smoothed out all around cool vibe of the "Daisy age", in which this music was born.
Absolutely, they’ll never truly understand. We had so much unique creativity. Even the songs from today take our beats/ rhythms and create a derivative of our generational talent. We lived !
It was a movement. We all fell in love with it. The music. The fashion. The clubs. Lawd I could go on lol

I believe Kanye West once said ATCQ was what made him recognize hip hop as not just music, but a form of art. And he's damn right.
Hip hop is and always will be art and more than words, it goes threw graffiti, break dancing, Dj'ing and producing, to rapping. I only wish Kanye would come off the bullshit he's been with.
Soul Fu Admit it, though, TLET wouldn't be half the album it is without all that jazz sampling. Not to say Q and Pfife aren't amazing MCs, but hip hop is 70% MC and 30% production.
Kanye's not onto bullshit. Yeezus was just a shock album, he'll come back hard on his upcoming album.
Yea i agree. And Kanyes album wasn't a shock it just sucked, and I'm not just talking about yeezus, he's been acting like a God though the only thing legendary is his beats. And he needs to stop hanging with those mainstream niggas rapping about money ain't what he should be doing. I'm not saying Kanye sucks, but come on you know he's on sum bullshit.
Soul Fu I look at this way. You and I are smart. We know a lot about our respective interests. Kanye is a genius. A genius innovates and influences, and that's what Kanye does. In order to maintain the mindset, he's convinced he's a god so he can keep going.
But I agree on the guests. Kid Cudi and King L are aight but they have nothing on Kweli or Def.

When hip hop was special
When I Loved Her 😂
1993 senior in college when this came out. 2024 and 53 years old…..and it still sounds DAMN GOOD!
A message to those who are wondering where the true meaning of hip hop has gone. Though i may be a simple sixteen year old, I also agree that what people see as hip hop today, is far from the truth but, please do not go as far as to say 'hip hop is dead' or 'hip hop' is no more because, this is simply not the case. You may see my opinion as unwise due to my age but i humbly ask that you lend me your ears for a brief second as i wish to shed some light on a subject that I hold very dear to my heart; Hip-Hop. It is quite clear that what we hear today is not what hip hop truly is and it is also clear that those around me are also brainwashed by what society chooses to call Hip Hop. I would just like to make it perfectly clear that hip hop, real hip hop, good hip hop, is not dead. It is simply underground and it desperately needs to break to the surface. I m sure that you agree but it needs our help. We need to do what we can to show the world that real hip hop is still here. I Love Hip Hop and i dont mean to cause any controversy or confusion. Im just here to voice my opinion as a person who loves Hip Hop just like everyone else.
For real. All these motherfuckers that got to grow up during the 80s and 90s seem to be stuck in that era. Of course hip hop then was better than it is now, but that doesn't mean today's hip hop sucks. They base all their judgements on fools like Iggy, 2Chainz, and Lil Wayne.
I dont agree with that man. This song is about wanting to bang girls like a lot of hip hop is now. The subject matter is the same the style changed.

What do you listen to?
scrotor189 You are clearly ignorant, how could you say something like sampling takes no musical talent because it is used a lot in hip-hop and i highly doubt you could sample and mix if your life depended on it. Please take your unknowing opinion somewhere else.
Do you can you see anybody brainwashed because of the simple fact that I have friends who I hang around and listen the old hip-hop music seed to me old hip-hop music it just puts me in the mood like it just makes me want to go outside and do all kinds of stuff today's rap make mewant to stay inside maybe be all in that be there all day become a couch potato some but yeah so
