MOLLE II Medium Rucksack || Skills2Survive

  • Here is a quick review of a new pack I purchased.
    Its the Medium Molle II Rucksack. This pack came out in 2010. The military wanted a pack for 24-72 hour missions, and the existing Molle II Ruck was too large and the Assault pack was too small.
    Weighing in at 5.75lbs and 3000 cubic inches, its lighter than the old Medium Alice pack and carries more.
    Its an external plastic frame similar to the large rucksack, with 2 external pockets on it. There is molle webbing on front and side for attaching additional items.
    This pack will replace my Alice as my Bug out Bag.
    Overall it seems to be a great replacement so far.

    I deployed to Afghanistan with this pack and noticed the lack of compression straps on the sides when it was issued to me. My fix: tactical tailor's IBA buckle kit. I put a set each from the upper and lower pockets to the molle loops closest to the frame, giving me 2 straps per side to compress the pack down. Easy fix for the issue that served me well downrange

    It is the Military Modular Sleep System. Well part of it, its the Goretex outer bivy and the Green Patrol bag. It fits great and its pretty light.

    I like both personally... Alot depends on how much you want to spend. The ALICE you can get for under $50, the Molle is about $100. I like the Molle medium much better honestly, although its not quite as versatile as the Alice, I think its more comfortable and I like the pockets better on it.. The Molle II LARGE is TOO big...IMO. Hope this helps.
    Thanks for watching.

    You should put two 1L canteens on your belt if you're going to do so, one on each side. Putting a canteen on just one side unbalances your load and causes unnecessary back strain. Either put it on your back, or double up.

    I believe the shoulder straps are not padded as much because they want soldiers to be able to shoulder there rifles. Not to mention if your wearing a vest, then the thick shoulder straps add bulk.

    • @Skills2survive
      @Skills2survive  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are correct. But they still need to be more padded IMO...LOL Thanks for watching.

    Its not a complete frame like the Large pack, its more of a U shaped frame. Its hard and durable. I got this one off ebay for around $85. I have found ebay is the best place for these. You just have to keep looking though, because they are not listed all the time.

    @2:15 The straps are thin because it's designed to fit over the IBA or IOTV body armor. I've loaded it to about 25 pounds and I had no problem with the straps.

      And thicker straps make it difficult to shoulder a rifle

    charper3006 Awesome review. thanks for the upload. Im new to long term camping and trekking and I have two questions for you: Im trying to decide between the alice medium ruck and the molle 2 ruck. My brother has the molle 2 large and I really like it and he enjoys it and ive hiked with it. I agree it is just too big so I want a medium sized ruck. But im not sure which to go with the alice medium or the molle 2 medium. IM leaning more towards the molle b/c of the molle on the outside of the ruck

    It's interesting that American Tax Payers pay for it once so they can pay for it again a few years later . I found a new unused Molle 2 without the frame at a flea market 3 years ago - $20 bucks .

    Interesting to watch how these packs have gone up , been wanting one and found a new one , was close to 300 (ouch) 🤑😖 but it is what it is , great video , there are not many of these multicam ones left 90% are only the bags , not staps , no frame , no hip belt , and they want a bunch for just the bag portion

    • @Skills2survive
      @Skills2survive  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It did great especially if you like external frame packs. My biggest complaint as with most packs is I think it needs more padding in the shoulder straps and hip belt. That being said, I put many miles on it and it was comfortable as long as you don’t overload it.

    I asked a question down below so please look but also how touch/durable/hard is the plastic for the zippers on this ruck. My brother has the large molle 2 ruck and I notice on his, the plasitc is super hard military grade with super high durability and was wondering if this ruck ws the same. Also, how much did this cost??

    I'm a female. 5'5" 110lbs. What would you suggest I buy for my bug out/weekend camping bag? Should I go with a military style pack? If so, what? Please and thank you!

    • @Skills2survive
      @Skills2survive  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That really depends on you and your budget. This pack would be good, however I would suggest putting all of the items out that you intend on carrying and get a pack around that. This way you dont get a pack too large or small. The medium military Alice pack is a good weekend/bug out bag. It can be uncomfortable though. There are many packs out there, you have to decide whats best for you. If you need further help, feel free to PM me and I can help you out. Thanks for watching.

      If you do get a medium alice pack check out the videos on the alice wildcat mods. basically you use a genIV plastic surplus frame, MOLLEE II shoulder straps and kidney belt. Makes the alice a lot more comfortable and you can add alice or mollee pouches on the sides for extra storage
