Thanks for the review. I had this knife about 7 years now and it is a beast. 1095 steel 0.25 inches thick. Yours as well mine is not hollow ground. These days they come hollow ground which takes some of the backbone out of them. I paid a little over $40 for mine and still is one of my favorites, although I have much more expensive blades. The recurve makes pretty good feather sticks even though a pretty large blade.
I got mine about 6 years ago on a whim. The first time I used it was on a weeklong bush crafting trip in northern Ontario with the intention of it being my main blade to see how it did. I also brought along a higher end knife just in case this one failed. Had to sharpen the 1095 quite often with a sharpening rod… But the Bark River Bravo 1.25 never came out of my bag. 😂 Was really fun to use. The big finger choil is great for good control when carving and as you know, it’s a beast of a chopper. Very affordable too. Especially for Canada. At least when I got mine a while back. 👍🏻
I would like a totally thermoplastic sheath, (well kydex, even better, but that would be expensive). One thing about recurve blades is they take more finese to sharpen, but this goes to show that the knife snobs who always rip on Schrades from that era were full of it. You used it hard for almost a decade, and it is still doing great. I love the traction feel of micarta and G10 handles, but that TPE really helps with dampening the shock. Dude, your hands must be MASSIVE! That is NOT a small knife, lol! I used a product similar to jasco to strip my schrade froe, and it worked great. Then I duracoated the blade to both protect it and give it a slick surface for batoning. Used three rolls of racket tape on that thin handle, then dipped it in several coats of tool handle plasti-dip. It is a batoning machine now. Too bad they no longer make the Schrade froe. A couple of easy mods made a really good, yet under $30 tool AMAZING!
They’re a steal as far as a big blade goes I think they are under $50 now it’s a beast of a bushcraft knife and I wouldn’t hesitate to pry with it either being conscious to try to spare the tip while doing so
I might try that not sure it would be safe to function as a spatula like it has but I bet it would look good,I was thinking of doing a flapper disc and polishing wheel to remove the sand paper scratches
@@missourisurvivalandoutdoor9547 I'm not sure about the food safety but I will say I've done a couple of my kitchen knives with it and washed them really well afterwards and havn't died yet. I wouldn't suggest a flap disk they're pretty aggressive If I were you I would hand sand it, but that is just the humble opinion of a knife maker

I use one of these as a daily camp knife (rv in the woods lmao) and it's one of my top 10 survival knives for sure. Just a absolute tank of a blade, manages to do everything it needs to even if ya do it wrong 😆 I pair mine with a multitool and have a small knife (mora or freeman) with its fire kit etc.
I have never found this knife to be too big for my hand. Some of us wear XXL gloves and need a hefty handle. Mine batons Mesquite and Live Oak as well as Ashe Juniper and has never had any problems. It's probably not ideal for people with small hands, but it's one of the few comfortable knives for mine. Mine came fairly dull from the factory, but after a week of sharpening on a stone, it holds a sharp edge fairly well. It's not great at stabbing, but how often do you need to stab something? Overall, I'm pleased with my knife.
@@missourisurvivalandoutdoor9547 same. My cousin did it I think I don't remember I just remember thinking of if i was using a belt grinder to clip it or a file. I didn't have to bring the blade back to far it didn't brake a whole lot off

If you want a low cost 1 tool option this is it. For a 2 tool option add a silky gomboy saw and you can do most any bushcraft task.

I love the big blades schrade makes I’ve never had a problem with them breaking ect

I love mine too. I got a kydex sheath for it. It stays on my left hip as a last ditch knife, and stays in my get home bag.

Put some Birchwood Casey superblue on it to put a patina on it. Looks sexy, prevents rust, and covers abuse
