    Chris, I find its a lot easier to install the exhaust camshaft first and then bolt it down with its caps, then install the intake camshaft . I use a long 12 x 1.25 mm rod down through the cylinder 2 or 3 spark plug hole to find and prevent rotatation of the crankshaft once you have the number 2 & 3 pistons at bottom dead centre. This automatically puts cylinders 1 & 4 at top dead centre. I know the cursing and language involved in installing the cylinder over the pistons on these motors. its much worse when you have a big bore and there is then no taper on the bottom of the cylinder sleeves. I have built many of these engines since the FZ750 in 1985 and I have to say you have made an excellent series of videos for this type of motor. Your video applies equally to FZ750, FZR750, OW-01, YZF750 and YZF1000 Thunderace as well.

      First if all thank you for your comment! Coming from someone with your experience, it means a lot!
      I thought the engines you mentioned above would be the same! The next time I'll be doing my YZF750 that I have in Greece, I'll follow your advice!
      When I had to put the cylinders over the pistons, I have to admit that I was a bit worried not to brake any piston rings. It takes a lot of patience as you know!
      Thanks again!🙂

      @@ChrisSofos Chris. On the YZF750 you will need a long ( 120mm) length of 10 X 1.25 threaded rod as that model has 10mm spark plugs.

      The Thunderace uses a 2 colour scheme for the main bearings, still same colour codes but prefixed with pink and also the Thunderace J3 has no groove :-)

      Hi and thanks you for your comment. I did not include it in this series, since I had it on the other one that shows the full bike restoration. Here's the link for this video. Go to 1:02 for carb installation.

      @@thepict1010 FZR1000 and Thanderace share the same engine. However, if (when) you do an engine rebuilt, keep in mind that the timing marks are different between the two engines.

      It's thicker and the engine doesn't need so much oil.

    What is it that you are putting on at 18:46??
    My manual doesn't show that piece but I have it and don't know why or what it does!!

    • @ChrisSofos
      @ChrisSofos  ปีที่แล้ว

      This is something that many FZRs are missing because previous owners threw away. It is a metallic plate that has two small tubes on it. These two tubes accept the overflow hoses from the carburettors. So when fuel overflow occurs, the fuel walks away from the hot cylinders.

    • @Jfree441
      @Jfree441 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ChrisSofos ohhhh so it dumps out overflow right there. That makes sense. This isn't even listed in the mechanics manual for the bike so I was so lost. Thank you so much!!

    The engine was unpainted in this model? or is that a choice? Great job by the way, love the feeling when they fire up for the first time after a strip down. :-)

    • @ChrisSofos
      @ChrisSofos  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks mate! Oh, that feeling! You know what I mean!
      Yes, no paint for this model. Actually, the only models I remember having a black painted engine were the first ones ('87-'88). Everything else after that was plain aluminum.

      Thank you!
      Go on the following link and check the adjusters (No 6 in the diagram). You'll find they have bolts on them. It shows only the two of them (on one headlight). There are two more on the other one.
      The bottom ones are for side to side adjustment and the top ones are for up-down.

      Hi there. You can't repair them. You have to buy another one. There are many used on eBay or Amazon if you look into it. Models from 1990 all the way to the last year (1995) have the same oil pump. Here's one that I found in Germany:
