Yamaha FZR 1000 Exup Full engine restoration Part 4

  • In this part of the series I'm removing the valves off the cylinder head, but before I do that, I'm checking if the valves seal properly to provide adequate compression to the combustion chamber.
    Then I clean the cylinder head and valves, to see what's the damage under all the carbon that was building up for the last 25+ years!

      Thanks for your comment! I love the older FZRs!!! Just keep in mind that many things are different from my model. If you need any help with measurements or anything else, let me know. Good luck with yours!!!

    Wow 5 valves per cylinder!

    So if you had a set of ABUSO stainless steel black nitride coat valves in your fzr that whole sanding of the valve would not be good for that black nitride coating on the valves

      You are absolutely right. Not a good idea. Even though I've done the same thing in my FZR 400 valves and it still runs without a single problem to this day.
      However, on my next project I'll use glass bead blasting to clean the valves. This won't affect any coating.

    Bit worried about what i'll find in my 87s cases, its still running strong and doesn't jump out of any gears, but it does have that worn engine smell when you start it and whines a bit on over run at low revs. As soon as the 86 1100 GSX-R is 100% finished I'm stripping the FZR down.

      Your FZR seems to be in good condition! Of course, you can't tell for sure until the engine is apart. Make a video when you do the job!

    Great help to those with this engine. Do you know if the valves are the same as other engines. Maybe a Yamaha 250 single? Thanks

      Thanks for your comment. I'm not really sure, but I don't think so. You can always go to megazip.com and find the valves of the models you want and compare them.

      Hi Tom. Mine is a 30L and I happen to find it in a great price. However I need to buy a 3L one for small parts so I won't have to wait the big size tank to heat up before every job

    URGENT. I need hi rise handle bars for 87 fzr 1000.Any sources?

    • @ChrisSofos
      @ChrisSofos  ปีที่แล้ว

      I never had to do a research for that, but the only thing I found was this. It's for the later models though. You can always ask them if they do for your '87. Quite expensive!!!

      The problem you are going to have is with the fairing and clearance, the bars mount below the top clamp on this model, whatever you do, DONT cut away the fairing, as these are rarer than unobtainium (i know, ive been searching for a 87/88 headlight fairing for 2 years 😣)

    HI Chris, have you seen this guys channel? th-cam.com/video/LePA5mIYIdk/w-d-xo.html
    Its a young guy working on an old 86 GPz 1000RX, its rough....real rough, but its interesting to watch him work on one of Kawasakis forgotten superbikes.
