Seeing the world today, Tomorrow Never Dies was ahead of their times. Who had trough that the media and corporations would go ahead and profit with endless wars? Only Starship Troopers and Tomorrow Never Dies.

@@DistractedGlobeGuy The only issue with your commentary is that Heinlein and Bradbury argue in favour, not as a critic, even Bradbury divorce himself of his own work when he become a hardcore conservative, but then again, if you really read Fahrenheit 451, Bradbury is more worry about pesky wives and how troublesome the media was for critiquing in the government, even if the government was burning literal books.

Brosnan always looked like he hated sharing any scenes with her and Teri looked like she would rather be anywhere but on set. Their hatred towards each other shone through both their performances. A big plot point of the film fell flat because of poor stunt casting and a total lack of chemistry.

Your remark about how Carver doesn't have that one brutal scene is actually interesting because there is a deleted scene of him ordering Stamper to well, stamp a guy. But I think Carver is actually a good villain. Due to the fact that he's timeless and I think he does ooze charisma. Plus Pryce looks like he's having a blast as well.

billa107 I think he needed one scene where he goes full psycho. Kind of like where Christoph Waltz strangles Diane Kruger in Inglorious Bastards.

Looking at Paris Carver's scenes, I can't help but see a missed opportunity: why isn't this character Sylvia Trench? In the first two films it was established that Sylvia and Bond have something of a relationship or at least a casual fling going on, but she's absent for the rest of the series. Wouldn't it have been cool to reintroduce that character to the series?

Tomorrow Never Lies is a better name, because Tomorrow is the newspaper and since Carver dies at the end it presumably dies with him. But it not lying makes sense because Carver is making the bad news that he is reporting.

That’s putting it mildly. He was upset the moment he found out Monica Belluci wasn’t playing Paris Carver. I can’t blame him. She would’ve been vastly superior to Teri Hatcher and would’ve helped sell the role better. Teri is totally ordinary and not exotic in any way. This worked for Lois and Clark but not as a woman Bond still cared about about tossing her aside. Bond wouldn’t give two shits about her. If he were going to miss anyone, it’d be someone far more interesting and exotic like Octopussy, Anya Amasova or Melina Havelock. Even Natalya Simonova would take priority over someone who looks like she worked at a perfume shop.

Maybe Teri Hatcher is the perfect Bond girl for the Brosnan era. Arguably both were picked for their roles based on their looks, and popularity. Couple that with the fact that neither seems better than okay with their acting. Maybe Paris was some stuck up hat check girl he shacked up with on a drunken binge, and feels bad about using her. Wait...is this movie really so bad that I'm pulling a Homer Simpson and making up my own story for it?

She was an original choice for Paris and ended up being one of the worse Bond women in the series. Teri Hatcher and Pierce Brosnan couldn’t stand each other on set. This entry was OK, Brosnan is comfortable in the role and Michelle Yeoh is great in the action scenes, but there were already conflicts between Brosnan and the producers that portended what would happen during development of his last two movies. The script went through multiple rewrites to the point that Anthony Hopkins dropped out as the vilian, Brosnan understandably wasn't happy, but he was portrayed as being difficult. Also Terri Hatcher was cast when he wanted Monica Bellucci instead. Completely boneheaded decision in casting Hatcher.

The original screenplay for this movie was vastly superior. The plot had a huge focus on the Hong Kong handover and the plot was much more substantial. The locations were also superior. It had the potential to be as good or better than Goldeneye. Sadly, this all was scrapped because EON wanted to play things safe and decided to scrap everything because they worried about how the film would do if the handover didn’t go well. I feel this was a huge mistake as the benefits outweighed the risks and the film would be far more entertaining and would make up for any possibility of issues if the hand over didn’t go well. It would’ve also held up better in posterity as a period piece. What we got instead is essentially The Spy Who Loved Me only way stripped down and lackluster. This excessive desire to play things safe sadly continued into the next 2 movies, culminating in 3 of the worst movies of the series. Thankfully things really picked up again with the Daniel Craig era. The plots aren’t always great but the movies manage to be entertaining and engaging. They take risks and typically subvert expectations rather than just cater to them without much creativity.

Shoot me but I think Brosnan's best is TOMORROW NEVER DIES. GOLDENEYE was arguably a smarter film but it was also a cheat; it just repacked many old cliches with a tad more self awareness. TND works better because Brosnan takes command to the best of his ability, the stunts are far more creative, the plot was a tad better, and it doesn't pretend to me any more than one it is. As for the last two Brosnan Bonds, TWINE turned the principal characters into pussies and DAD was just awful.

Your comments on the chicks is strange. It would be nice, you suggest if we could see what Bond does with the girls he hooks up with at the end of each show. How does he pump and dump them? What does she think? Who cares. Having to listen to a chick whine about being dumped when the 'relationship' she thought was unfolding turned out to be only a fling, is not my idea of something I am ever interested in hearing. Especially, I don't want to PAY for it. As for Terri Hatcher, I totally agree. That being said, there are a lot of chicks in Bond films who simply can't act, and yet their scenes--sadly--did not get left on the cutting room floor.
