@dilly2408 The Sony receiver has an input more than the JVC. Otherwise they are pretty much the same. Finding out wich one sounds better is YOUR task, because I don't have the same ears as you have. Neither do I have the way to listen to both of them.
@DrCassette The receiver for comparison is JVC RX-230R. I'm interested about the sound quality difference on the first place and after, it is about other options. Thank you for your support !
I just recently had a bit of a laugh in a store looking at a Sony receiver that was ONLY 159€. What a ridiculous price! But I have to admit that technically it really didn't seem to be bad.
@CoolDudeClem Yes, that must be the reason :D I was trying to find something at least half-way decent, but no success. This load of junk was the best I could find.
I really like those Jamo speakers, their a great brand and not cheap, they deserve to be driven by something nicer than that icky Sony though. I'm surprised it had individual output transistors and not just a great big nasty amplifier chip.
@CenTexVideo Their professional stuff is great, but I have to agree, their consumer equipment is not a bit better than all the other junk. It usually doesn't even look better :P I remember the "It's a Sony" stickers on their equipment from the 80s. Back then, saying that was enough. I don't understand why they now have that "make.believe" thing. It just doesn't make sense, unless they want to MAKE you BELIEVE their stuff was better :D
Hi there... Can someone please explain some things.. I found this receiver, in country it is tuner.. :P But that's not important.. How powerful speakers can I plug to this receiver? In my country it costs 70e.. Is it much? If you can explain to me, what is power consumption? What is music power? What is rms power? And what is sinus power? Thanks a lot, in advance.. :) P.S. Sorry for very, very stupid questions.
I don't care for sony at all,except the classic 70s early 80s stuff,but they are over rated crap except for the high end stuff,I prefer Onkyo,the quality is so much nicer,but sony is just a overrated name in consumer electronics.
@CenTexVideo Have you tried the ES models?Of course,the beggining of the 90's was the,shall we say,end of the best stuff.
@PhilliR93
That doesn't matter as the plug is not a polarized one.
@dilly2408
This is a stereo receiver. It depends on the model and not on the brand, wich receiver is better.

@grassulo
I'm not all too impressed by the Jamo speakers. They do a good job at high levels in big rooms though.
Nice find
Nice Sony STR-GX390 Stereo Receiver

Hi ! This receiver doesn't have surround function ? And between this Sony and a similar JVC, wich one is better ? Thank you !
I have no idea, maybe 40 - 60 Watts per channel I'd guess.
@CoolDudeClem

nice cheap toy there.. also, seems you have a Technics RS-M44 cassette deck as well.. saw it in the background of your vid.. xD
The reception is bad around 6:52 because of the type of music that's being played, even the receiver does not like it.
But you have not demonstrated how the AM band works on that receiver.
Omar Crisante There is only one AM station around that I can pick up, so there's not much of a point.

Would not use a Sony for main amp though this would be fine to use in say a bedroom.
I explained in the video what's up with that knob.
NEVER! That may have been the total power consumption, but definitely not the power output into one channel.

THis has to be a 1990's model. Sony does not make Stereo receivers anymore.
@CoolDudeClem I would rather call it mass-produced, auto-tuned noise!
Digital Audio Tape
@CoolDudeClem You're right, that music sucked.
Like you said "bottom of the line"
200 Watts
