    GREAT content! Thanks for adding that the shared shuttle is good for solo travelers. Somehow solo travel to NYC intimidates me but I'm going for it. I've traveled solo to many other places.

    I'm visiting New York in a couple of weeks and was wondering how to get to my hotel on Times Square, this video was really helpful. If the shared minivan takes you right to your hotel door then this might be my best option as I'm wearing a special boot after fracturing my foot last week. I'm a bit surprised you didn't mention the bus, I'm pretty adventurous so I'm considering doing that on Saturday when I arrive. I know it's quite a lengthy journey but it's very cheap.

    For the moment, all LIRR tickets are Off-Peak, regardless of time of day.....I'm sure this will change but that was the status of it when I went in late November. Not sure why, maybe giving commuters a bit of a financial break in hard times. I chose LIRR going and returning; couldn't be easier. Penn Station is a bit of an underground labyrinth but the signage is good and I kept following the signs until I found Moynihan Train Hall...the front exit of which puts you on 8th Avenue looking at MSG across the street, and you can see the Empire State Building off in the near distance. My hotel was a brief walk 2 blocks north then left on 36th Street.

    This is super helpful!
    Although, one question - If I was to get a taxi from JFK do I tip the taxi dispatcher also? (Sorry if this is super obvious, I'm travelling from the UK so I don't completely understand the tipping etiquette!)

    • @FreeToursbyFootNewYorkWalks
      @FreeToursbyFootNewYorkWalks  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Kristy. No need to tip him -- and because I think the dispatchers are employees of either the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey or the City's Taxi & Limousine Commission, he isn't permitted to accept a tip when offered.

    How many miles or kilometers are from jfk to the city ❔
    In Berlin we have the new airport BER, what opened 12 years later as they want and its outside the city... not like bevor as we had Tegel (TXL),
    what was inside the city... or Tempelhof, which are in the center of Berlin ❕😏
    I think we have to pay 40-50 € from center to the airport... what are around 60 $ for taxi and its 12-15 kilometers also 8-10 miles i believe.
    It's cheaper in NY i think ❔🤔
    With S-Bahn (like Subway but over ground) it's 3€ for 2 hours in one direction... no returns, about 4 Dollars... and you ride 1 1/2 hours.
    With taxi i think 45 minutes or one hour 😋

    • @FreeToursbyFootNewYorkWalks
      @FreeToursbyFootNewYorkWalks  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      23 kilometers from Times Square. JFK is in the city so it depends on where in the city you are going. A taxi ride from JFK is cheaper to Brooklyn than Manhattan or the Bronx. And for this Pankower, happy that Tegel is closed :).

    • @Ramsi-Berlin
      @Ramsi-Berlin 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@FreeToursbyFootNewYorkWalks In Berlin it's 70 $ for 20 km ride ‼️😒
      Why do you are happy, that Tegel airport is closed ❔🤔

    If i am staying at a hotel in 28th street in Manhattan, is LIRR the best option? I dun mind the cost as long as penn station to my hotel is a few mins walk.

    My plan is to take Amtrak from Washington, DC, to Penn Station, New York. Do I have to leave the station to catch that Long Island Railroad to Air Train and finally to JFK? Also, does the Long Island Railroad run 24/7?

    • @CaptainPicardy
      @CaptainPicardy ปีที่แล้ว

      Long Island Railroad departs from Penn Station. You won't leave the station but you will need to walk to the other side of it. Air Train connects with Jamaica Station from the LIRR.

    I will likely do taxi or Lyft because of ease and time. The train option would be fun for my kid. We are staying near the garden for a basketball game so near Penn Station. What times are considered rush hour? We will be arriving around noon. There tends to be a lunch rush here in the DFW.

      @FreeToursbyFootNewYorkWalks  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Rene. 4-6pm for sure. It depends on the day. Fridays start a bit earlier. You should be fine but keep in mind that the subway goes direct to Penn Station.

    Such a great help. I have a question though. What would be the best (not necessarily cheapest) option for 3 adults each with a large suitcase to get to times square? I did think taxi but not sure if a taxi could handle the luggage.

  • @eden6662
    @eden6662 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Is the Taxi flat rate (JFK to Manhattan) is per person or applicable for up to 4 persons ?
    Is there a luggage fee per unit ?

    • @FreeToursbyFootNewYorkWalks
      @FreeToursbyFootNewYorkWalks  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The flat rate is for up to 4 persons. There is a $4.50 surchage for rush hour. www.jfkairport.com/to-from-airport/taxi-car-and-van-service#:~:text=JFK%20Taxi%20Information%3A&text=Taxis%20at%20JFK%20Airport%20charge,for%20a%20fare%20of%20%2456.50.

    thank you very much for the information. But I must say that it is absolutely outrageous that In NY there is no cheap and frequent bus shuttle that connects JFK to Manhattan and the other airports like Newark. Man I am from Italy and in Milan there is a shuttle that leaves each hour from the central train station to the three nearby airports. And tickets cost 10 $! Now explain me why a city like NY should not offer an equal or better transportation service than Milan!
    I am going to have a trip where I shall go from JFK to Newark with a time window of 4 hours and I will definitely go for a taxi ride.
