    You should ad a "Wide-mouth" Carbon fiber Scoop. I did that an cut of the "metal-lip" which was blocking the free Airflow passage....HUGE improvement....and I can strongly recommend to install an Oil-catcher so you can get rid of the hot and oily air from the Valvecover. That also will prevent sticky carbon-build up in the intake ports.
    But you got yourself one fast little bastard...I like it 👍🏻🛠.

    hows the quality of the CNT downpipe? I'll be getting my ECU back from Mario tomorrow loaded with Stage 2. I'll be running the low boost map until I grab a DP.

    • @suchtragedy
      @suchtragedy  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Michael Bruns the CNT DP was okay but I had to mess with it a little. I used a hammer to put a slight divot in it to make it easier to bolt in. The rear bolt engine side was very inaccessible without my Hammersmithing on the work bench first. Also used a cutting wheel to cut part of the bottom mounting tabs easier to install. I did this because it was just myself installing it do I couldn't align both top and bottom at the same time but I recommend having 2 people to make everything easier.

    Hello, great video. I'm new to mini and I just got a mini 2013 cooper s. I was thinking of doing a mode 2 on it. Question on the AEM ram air, I notice some folks say that the heat from the turbo will heat up the air. How's the heat shield? does it really work on keeping the air cool or is it best getting a turbo blanket instead of using AEM heat shield?

    • @suchtragedy
      @suchtragedy  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I ended up wrapping the intake on the hood with heat reflective tape and between the shield and the tape it seems fine. When the car is moving the air is consumed pretty quickly so the heat soak is minimal. Compared to an intake that pulls air only from around it in the engine bay I would say it's still better. I won't say it's night and say better but definitely better especially during cooler weather months like right now. I would say a turbo blanket may be just as fine as a heat shield but I never looked into it myself.

      Manic tune removed CIL for intake and downpipe related codes. If there's a CIL in the vid (don't recall there being one) it wasn't related to the tune or mods, I think it was maintenance or TPMS sensor related.

    Two questions... How do you like your quick jack? And what light do you have attached to your hood for engine work?

    • @suchtragedy
      @suchtragedy  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jerald Haddox Quick Jack is the 2nd best garage purchase after my 72 inch harbor freight tool box. It's a major difference maker when it comes to working on things and well worth the money. The light is an underhood light that is extendable and latches to the hood and is cordless with internal lithium batteries. There are various ones all over but the one I got is made by ATD Tools model 80355. The way its made also makes it easy to set up under the car as well.

    • @suchtragedy
      @suchtragedy  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jerald Haddox absolutely. Lifts around 2 feet off the ground. I'm a big guy too and I can still get underneath easily and actually still move my arms around easily and have things more than 6 inches from my face using a creeper as well. None of my jacks or ramps can raise the car as high as this lift jack can.

    From what I have read the K03 turbo is a major sticking point. Are you not running it way to hot at the psi you are putting through it? Surely it needs a hybrid or k04?

    • @suchtragedy
      @suchtragedy  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Owen Jones I turn the tune down to 25% for daily driving. It's a commuter, mostly in town. But essentially you're correct - definitely recommend this in addition to an upgraded turbo like a k03 super 42 hybrid or k04. Otherwise plan on the stock k03 to get tired and wear out if you push it hard all the time.

    So what's the point of a cold air or ram intake if the turbo is going to make the air hotter than ambient?

    • @suchtragedy
      @suchtragedy  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      With the AEM hear shield along with wrapping the intake on the hood with heat reflective tape (added later) it seems to be decently effective at keeping air cool. At speed it's consuming air faster than the heat from the turbo can heat it as it passes through the intake.

    HOw much horse power and torque does this beautiful mini make, im trying to replicate this build with quicksilver exhaust/miltek catless dp

    • @suchtragedy
      @suchtragedy  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depending on mods and some tune options the tune is supposed to add 30-60hp over stock, so between 205-245 HP and 235-285 ft-lbs torque. I opted for the optional SPS switch that allows me to set 25/50/100% tune or stock map switching so I can calm the car down for daily driving and crank it up for track if I want. I also went with one step colder plugs as recommended when making more boost than stock. Good luck with your build :)

    • @jeandandrea6757
      @jeandandrea6757 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Any other recommendations? I really appreciate it, I saw some mini's with the NGK Plugs, ill probably get those, a big ebay intercooler because budget, the two silicone pipes i plan on doing for the resonator deletes. Do you have a rear sway bar or any after market suspension? Also, how does your car feel traction and grip wise with your tires, I was thinking of going from 205 to 215 tires for more comfort/grip for when I add the manic tune

    • @suchtragedy
      @suchtragedy  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have not done any sway bars or suspension upgrades as this is my fiance's car and she likes it how it is. The car definitely has traction issues from a dig or in the wet and traction control kicks on quite a bit if you don't have it completely turned off. But once you're about 30 mph cruising around it isn't too bad and hooks okay. I am running OEM size 205 Continental Extreme Contact DWs and they hook up rather well. Going 215s should help if you go that route. In regards to ebay intercoolers just remember that the fit may not be exactly perfect. The one I got fit okay, but I had to remove the front oem bash bar to make fitment then once I put the bumper back on the stepped elevation of the intercooler fit nicely behind it. The intercooler did have an extra top mounting tab that was not needed/in the way so I cut it off with a die grinder and called it a day. Using silicon hoses made it easier for fitment as well because the inlet and outlet piping of the ebay cooler wasn't exact in the end so I needed the hose flexibility there to get a good secure hose fit. I don't think it would have worked if I didn't change out of those pipes and stuck with the OEM ones. Honestly the most difficult thing to install was the downpipe. It required me to put the mini in "radiator support service position" in order to gain enough clearance to remove the heatshield and pull out the catalytic converter. This requires you unbolt many things up top and then down below and then pulling out the front bumper with attached headlights, radiator, fans, etc about 2 inches away from the car. I tried removing everything without doing this the first time and wasted hours of time trying to get at bolts with stupid extensions and swivels one at a time when I could have gotten them all done within a couple hours tops start to finish.
