I'm learning a lot from your videos. Will be checking more out. The steering wheel and dashboard is so beautiful. This is why I love old cars. And the white wall tires really match that gorgeous paint - which is one of my fave. colors because it represent a wonderful era.
We bought a registered '53 in the late '90s for $2000 in Melbourne. Unrestored and numbers matching that was one of the 31 sent to Australia! Beautiful car......
Those turn singles on the side were also used for parking on the side of the road at night. You would set your turn single to the street side of your car and it would stay lite so other traffic would notice your car was parked. In the cities your would park half way on the street and half way on the sidewalk. Also I believe there is a little bulb in the headlight that would light up also.
Hey Chris greetings from the UK !! , great video really informative! I’ve had late model bugs for years but Just brought a 56 Oval and can’t wait to pick it up next week!!
Great video, I've been watching this car on the samba for a little while now, it's awesome being given a walk around, I hope you get what you want for it, it's a beauty. I'm an oval loving guy and there's always more little details to learn bout these, thank you for sharing your knowledge of these cars man! I will continue watching your videos
Great video man. This informational, year to year change type video format is my favorite that you do. Love all of your videos. Keep it up and thanks for sharing. I'm restoring a 59 Renault Dauphine but someday will do a Beetle and a bus myself:)
They have no changes for both 1951 and 1952 VW Beetle. There are at least 15 changes for 1953 VW Beetle and they are: 1). Glass vent windows added, and during the model year they added locking handles on vent wing windows, 2). 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gears are synchronized; formerly crash box, 3). Two brake and tail lights; was formerly one brake/taillight at the center of deck (engine) lid, 4). T-shape handle; formerly open loop type, 5). 15 inch tires; formerly 16 inch tires, 5). Turn signal lever is mounted on the steer column; formerly switch on the dashboard, 6). Master cylinder was introduced, 7). Oval horn grilles; formerly round horn grilles, 8). Glove box get door; formerly open bin, 9). Redesigned dashboard and speedometer with needle parked at zero at the lower left of the dial; formerly at the upper right of the dial, and 10). One piece oval rear window; formerly two piece split window.
@10:00 The vents in the front guards should be round.....they match the heater outlets which are also round.....thats how l knew we had found something special in the '90s.
Good afternoon friend. I really liked your video and I have several technical questions and I would like to know if you can help me to clear them. 1. What color is your car? 2. I am working on a restoration process for a 1953 Volkswagen and it tells me that the color is L90. Thank you very much and very good Videos
Chris Vallone I see Chris. Here in Australia they were only on the '54. Thank you for your reply. One more thing, why are repro hearts so difficult to locate? I imagine it is because of the limited market but there is enough demand to make them so valuable.
Janny Marie Yeah I know, but to be honest, I have seen the repro hearts and they are not great. If you can get a set of original hearts you are better off. But yes, I guess they are a limited market.
No turn signals in the front bumper in this year, the only turn signals are the semaphores, and I mention those. Bumpers, were only the euro blade bumpers with short over riders. No turn signals in the headlights.
I had a 53 in Germany and it had a large window in the back and a sliding top in the roof. I guess you would call it a sun roof sort of. It was called a deluxe model.
Mine is exactly that model. I also have, but no fuctional, the push to start button. This year I was restoring interior with an original replica interior kit. But Most of the things you have on the dashboard, I have not. Can you please point on where to find the knobs and mechanisms, the two position switch and the start mechanism? This is gonna be part of the next year restoration step. Thank you very much
My bug they told me when I bought it it's called the new Jeep green, it siu is made up to me but its actually a beautiful color. All I am wanting to give it the best quality top for the ragtop. I like brownish color. I respect you and y you and you're company. 👍
Thank you for videos I learned a lot from you and I'm gonna use some of your ideas to help me. But I want to know, what kind of car do you have for yourself to drive? Chris Vallone
Heat was taken from the cylinders, with only a small section of the exhaust pipes contributing. Flaps close, focing the hot engine air forward, rather than simply exhausting out the back. No flow (to speak of) on a cold engine, as a thermostatically-controlled ring would throttle the cooling fan inlet, until the t-stat warmed up.
Hmm. I do own a 53 bettle volkswagen. Not that shiny, but not rusty,. With the original motor. Some informations here are not correct, and a lot is missing.

Hi Chris, Great video, thank you. You could have mentioned the ribbed doors and the straight gear stick too.
Love your work, please keep it up.
Janny Marie Well those lasted till '55. this was a 53 only video.
Chris Vallone I see Chris. Here in Australia they were only on the '54.
Thank you for your reply.

Love old vw bug
Gorgeous. Never knew that about the cigarette lighter and lights. Kinda like that starter button, don't know why...
You forget to explain about turn signal front bumper, some have down, others up bumper, looks like 1953 have the turn signal inside of headlights?
No turn signals in the front bumper in this year, the only turn signals are the semaphores, and I mention those. Bumpers, were only the euro blade bumpers with short over riders. No turn signals in the headlights.
wow, so many unique things!!!
What color is that.....so clean
I've seen 53's with a split window. So they made both?
Yes up till March 9th 53 there was still a split. March 10th was oval.
I had a 53 in Germany and it had a large window in the back and a sliding top in the roof. I guess you would call it a sun roof sort of. It was called a deluxe model.
Chris just out of curiosity why no cloth braided spark plugs wire?
What a beauty
Very helpful. Happy New Year.
❤❤❤❤❤❤
Chris, Thanks for the info. Ron

I had a chance to buy one in 2019, A 53' oval for 14K....Should of never passed it up. It was in good condition, everything was straight.
Ah that's too bad.
How much play should I give to the band? how loose should it be or how tight?
Doors inside changed. The groove above the door cards disappeared after 55. High dollar to replace. Roller pedal also leaves in 56
I have a 58 beetle I believe to be numbers matching I would love more info on it .
You can send me some info if you'd like
Gen pulley has a thinner lip, the pulley on the car is 54 onwards.
Please let us know how much thy go for $$?
@5:04 Should be 'D'.....ours had it. Also your semaphores...... they were ribbed on the green one we bought.
It can cover the rain?
What's you're best or favorite canvas on a ragtop?
Do you mean color?
@@classicvwbugs material and color
@@Bugmason Well depends on the color of the car but I have only ever used tan canvas and black canvas on my cars.
My bug they told me when I bought it it's called the new Jeep green, it siu is made up to me but its actually a beautiful color. All I am wanting to give it the best quality top for the ragtop. I like brownish color. I respect you and y you and you're company. 👍
I cant post a photo of my car on here.
Uhh, the glove box latch looks like a later-model rear-deck latch.
It was just an accessory pull that they sell.
Anyone know where the Wolfsburg emblem on the rear intake vents is from
Thank you for videos I learned a lot from you and I'm gonna use some of your ideas to help me. But I want to know, what kind of car do you have for yourself to drive? Chris Vallone
Chris Vallone
I have a 51 Split window right now. Next will be a 52 split ragtop. My everyday car is a 2013 Beetle.
Luckey!😃 Chris Vallone
Amazing
Thanks for the info
What interior colour would you recommend for an oval beetle with the savannah paintjob.
+Enclave Soldier I like dark red with the black piping. See my 54 Oval Ragtop that I sold last year that had the dark red seats in it.
Very helpful
Color of the 53 oval pls ?
Light beige 🤞
@Chris Vallone thank you Chris that's the color I'm going with my 64 👍
wow great og motor!!
Did they have heat back then No tubes coming off the Shroud
Rob Briggs we used to throw some pinto owners manuals in a metal bucket then set fire to them. crack the windows as needed.
Heat was taken from the cylinders, with only a small section of the exhaust pipes contributing. Flaps close, focing the hot engine air forward, rather than simply exhausting out the back. No flow (to speak of) on a cold engine, as a thermostatically-controlled ring would throttle the cooling fan inlet, until the t-stat warmed up.
does 53 come with the bullet front fenders?
c43939 uh... anyone, anyone? Did you watch the video?
turn signal device? not different? it looks different!
Interesting.
Some of theses cars you rebuild I bet are very hard to sell.
They are, some I regret. But if I kept them all, I would be out of business. =o)
جميلة
I don't get. Later models had less and less equipment.
Hmm. I do own a 53 bettle volkswagen. Not that shiny, but not rusty,. With the original motor. Some informations here are not correct, and a lot is missing.
Fill us in, what am I missing, let others know what the features are.
