- We have one word to describe Akae Beka and Higher Bound Productions latest roots reggae album, "Hail the King" -- EXCELLENT!
Overall, "Hail the King" is a profound album with lyrics that touch on multiple themes: class warfare; quest for power and dominance by the ruling class; repairing earth; togetherness; and, praise of Jah.
These philosophical lyrics, which can also be described as socio-religio-political commentary in poetic form, are accompanied by the live, organic sound of Midnite Band with input from other players of instruments.
This album might have some blemishes but to us at Irie Roots Reggae Reviews, these blemishes are not enough to not make "Hail the King" a perfect album.

Vaughan Benjamin by midnight is the artist who really takes this music inna different level and quality,i can say no one can play like Vaughan,i still give all the artists love and raspect to all but when it comes to Vaughan its something different how he put higher knowledge and wisdom i always salute Vaughan and all the crews band rastafari anthem forever more(we really miss Vaughan Benjamin RIP?

Big respect for understanding the depth, intellectual and historical content of Vaughn Benjamin's lyrics. I feel that so many people unintentionally forgo the depth of these contexts in his song writing. As for the players of instruments, they truly empower classic roots reggae while channeling their local Saint Croix, USVI roots through the music. Akae Beka / Midnite is the best roots reggae band to exist in this spacetime since the "Golden Age" (circa 1974-1982) of reggae music. Thanks for such a well articulated and love-filled review. The VI has some of the rootsiest of roots reggae. I've been tuned in to VI reggae since 2005.

It will shock and stun many, i & i think, when you grasp the key idea embedded in this tune. Don't scorn them, Don't despise them - Unlikely candidates - Used to their comfort and Steak.... now in this is a revelation. Who was the "Unlikely Candidate" who was used to their comfort and Steak? Relisten and play through the US 2016 election. I don't speak this off my own overstanding. It was confirmed to I by an Elder who worked on the Hail The King Album along with Vaughn.... And BOOM there it is!

I was surprised in a way how good this was when it first came out. It really captures that midnite feel.

@@colinp2377 this is what blows my mind. A few of the instrumentals are from riddims ZIK put out a couple years ago. Lutan Fyah and Arkaingelle used some of the riddims.
