In this video we're going to test and review the following hunting ammunition fired from the following test rifle:
- 6.5 Creedmoor Winchester Ballistic Silvertip 140 grain
- Bolt Action Ruger American chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor with a 22 inch barrel
All shots are fired from a distance of 100 yards so as to encompass the majority of common real world hunting scenarios.
I will be shooting into 10% ballistics gel from www.clearballistics.com that has been calibrated to meet the FBI ballistics testing protocol.
While ballistics gel isn't an exact proxy for big game, small game, predators or defensive situations, it does provide a repeatable medium through which to test various bullets and ammunitions against each other.
With each type of ammo tested I collect data on bullet penetration depth, bullet weight retention, bullet expansion and muzzle velocity.
For reference, bullet expansion is measured at the widest expanded point using a calibrated Frankford Arsenal Digital Caliper.
Bullet weight is measured using a calibrated Frankford Arsenal Digital Scale after having removed as much ballistics gel as possible from the expanded bullets.
Bullet velocity is measured using a ProChronoPal chronograph set approximately 7-10' from the shooting bench, depending on the cartridge and muzzle blast.
I am fully aware that a chronograph measuring bullet velocity from 10' away from the muzzle is going to register a slower velocity than if velocity were measured directly at the muzzle, but that difference is going to be so small as to be all but irrelevant in regards to comparison of actual measured velocity versus factory stated velocity.
My goal with these ballistics gel tests is to provide hunters like you and I with the most objective information possible to help us make the best choice for our particular hunting situation.
The results of these tests are my own and I cannot guarantee the same or similar performance on your part. The views and opinions expressed in this video are solely my own.
All videos are filmed in a safe and controlled environment on a private range with all applicable safety precautions by a trained professional. - บันเทิง

Good stuff you gonna do 243 win to im assuming that would be great also
@@JohnWest-yc9olyes I just filmed a bunch actually, coming soon
My guess is that the deep penetrator went thru the first wound channel and had less resistance than the shorter wound track.
I do not use these currently, but I used them for over 20 years out of a 30-06 and 270 WSM. I would estimate I shot between 55 and 65 deer with them. I lost one deer, I made a bad shot, and had to track only a handful as most died within site. I will give you the cons. These are not good in brush or thick vegetation. A leaf can have a noticeable effect on them. If you hit a meaty area, you lose a lot of meat. Pros. Very accurate. Massive wound channel and energy dump in animal. If you put the bullet in the vitals, 90 out of 100 times the animal will not leave you sight. Excellent performance at extended ranges.
There quality has dropped I’ve noticed with my 270 u could tell from just looking at them and luckily I bought a bunch for my 270 wsm only bullet I found better is federal trophy bonded
I use these in 130 grain for my 270. They shoot great and I never lost a deer with them.
Absolutely love these gel tests.
Glad to be of service!
I've used them on deer with a 30-06, 150 grain. Usually a really good whitetail bullet. But I've seen core/jacket separation pretty often on recovered bullets. Which is no big deal on whitetail deer and smaller. The only time I didn't get a complete pass through was on a shoulder shot on a big 220+ pound buck. Smashed through both shoulder blades and only found a flat mangled chuck of jacket under the hide on the far side. So it almost made it through. The deer was only 40 yards away.
I've taken many deer over the years with that load in 280 rem,308win&243. Drops em in their tracks with well placed shots. I think of them as rib cage loads& try to avoid hitting directly in shoulder bones. Most of the time entrance holes were larger than exit holes.
You got more penetration on the second round because it ran through the air gap from the first round on the way in, so it didnt lose as much energy travelling through the first block allowing it to travel deeper
Great video. Just found this channel and glad I did. Really like the 270win videos. That's what caliber my deer rifle is. I would love to see more ammo test in the 270 win. Really appreciate all of the knowledge you give. Keep up the great work.
Thanks and glad to be of service! I’ve got more 270 coming for sure!
I've used this ammo in my 7mm Mag, 22-250. I've always had great results. I've never had any animal go further than 50 yards. Most dropped in their tracks. I've bought some for my 6.5 Creedmoor. But I'm still using Hornady Precision Hunter. The Hornady ammo has been flawless. I started off using Federal Terminal Ascent, I stopped after losing my 2nd 8 pointer. Now I'm stuck with about 6 boxes. I guess we live and learn.
I’ve been using ballistic silver tip in my 243 tooken a couple deer with it it did good dropped 2 and one ran 30 yards all hit the shoulder bone
It is hard to predict whether a Ballistic Tip or Ballistic Silvertip is going to behave when they could very likely be engineered to different standards of performance between calibers and cartridges. Bullets could be as different as apples, oranges, and pears.
You do a great job with these videos. If you can find Hornady Black BTHP 140gr. I look forward to looking for those results 👍🏼
Probably the best ammo I’ve ever used
I find it funny how the impact dance the gel block does varies so much between different cartridges and loads.
Indeed, a lot of that has to do with rate-of-expansion, which is difficult to measure without a $100,000 camera
@@masonleather Rate of expansion being like a twist rate that is so much expansion over so many inches of wound track,?
Any plans on testing any Nosler or Sig Sauer hunting ammo?
I would like to see 1 shot in the gel. Not 3 shots.. thanks for the video
You should do a video on the Barnes TTSX in 7mm Rem Mag 150g.
Wish you show the 155-165g .308 version of this round. Would be interesting to see it’s data
Have conducted a test of Hornady Precisoon HUNTER 143 ELD-X for the 6.5 Creedmoor?
It would be nice if you test these bullets on a 20in barrel
Do the 95 grain 243 silver tip or nosler bt
Not terrible. We have been pleased with accuracy with handloads in 308 & 30/06 with 165/168 & 180.
But we have chosen not to hunt deer with them any longer. The last high shoulder shot was devastating. Too much damage with lead and jacket fragments that made use throw away a good bit of meat.
I love Nosler factory ballistic tips and Federal Vitol Shocks loaded with ballistic tips. Silvertips have given me mixed results.
I can remember when Silvertip had a cool aluminium cap. Do they still make that stuff??
No, I have some vintage 35 Remington Silvertip I know what you mean, cool stuff
With the 30-30 test you have done, what ammo round would you use for whitetail deer?
Federal PowerShok 150gr, not only is it one of the cheapest, it also performs incredibly well
One thing I have noticed with the Creedmor is that the velocities claimed are seldom reached even with Handloads.
It would help if the manufacturers quit using 24” tight-spec barrels to wring out every FPS they can
Creedmoor, with two o's
I think that is with most calibers and manufacturers.
Another great video. Any chance you've done or will do any of the following?:
300WM 180 Norma Bondstrike
300WM 150 Norma Whitetail
308 150 Nosler ballistic tip
308 168 ELD-M
270 110 Barnes TTSX
270 130 Barnes TTSX
270 129 Barnes LRX
280 Remington 140 Nosler ballistic tip
6.5-284 Norma 127 Barnes LRX
6.5PRC 127 Barnes LRX
I’m going to do everything
@@masonleather Dang! Impressive and awesome. Can't wait.
He said crap- moor 😂 that's better than 30-sick , and I shoot an 06 😂 , everybody has their favorites, but you just gotta roll with the punches , all in good fun
Do u have access to Sako powerhead Blade green tipped in any caliber?
Yes, I’ll do it eventually
my father in law shot a deer with one of these.
It put a hole through the deer in I could see and the deer walked 20 yards to the tree line and then fell over dead
See the difference between a 22-inch Barrel 24 inch barrel and a 20 inch barrel
Everyone that does ammo test videos need to watch your videos to learn how to do one. Please stick with this same formula. You always include all pertinent info anyone wants to see when searching for ammo test videos to watch. You even tell us what rifle you’re using PLUS the barrel length. So many people do videos and will, for example, only show you the penetration. They won’t tell you the barrel length, they won’t show you the bullet afterwards….when searching for the right bullet, we need to know this stuff. Some people will title a video as this bullet vs this bullet and will only show you how well it groups in THEIR rifle. This info doesn’t really help a hunter decide whether they want to use that round or not. Keep up the good work!!
I bought a box for my 26-06 and 30-06, spent 100+ for the 2 boxes and the groups were trash. It is garbage at least in my guns, and the 223 version is useless junk. Maybe 223 indoors, it kills milk jugs at close range, but misses to all sides at 100. Imo trash.
Am I the only one who thinks there's no reason to show us the box?
I tried it in 308 and my rifle didn’t like it.
Them are loaded with nosler bullets
6.5 cm needs nothing. Fantastic round, ive killed several deer and hogs. One boar weighed 275lb. So yeah, it easily kills as good as a 270 or the like.
I like your videos chck out deer 🦌 Winchester deer season XP
Ye old needmore 😂
While not the best cartridge, every time I hear "6.5 creedmoor? More like needsmoor" I hear it compared against long action cartridges like 270. No shit the cartridge with so much more case capacity and powder that it needs a longer action will hit harder
In my 25-06 and 30-06 that ammo may hit a basketball at 200 yards. Junk, expensive trash.
Its not the calibers fault if u use Winchester ammo... it is crap.
I didn’t bash the caliber at all in the video.
Every gun mag writer knows that the 6.5 CM is too weak for deer. You need a Magnum to do the job.
Yeah. Like the 30-30
@@BrokenBarBox yeah, it killed everything in North and South America. But now it is too weak for deer !
You don’t need a magnum for deer. Anything bigger than a 30-06 and you’re ruining the meat. Every gun mag writer knows you could kill a deer with a 22
Yes, a magnum!
They make deer more dead.😂😅
Sooooo, like a .22 mag???
