DANGEROUS!! 6.5 Creedmoor Federal Fusion 140gr Ballistics Gel Ammo Test

- Let's do a ballistics gel test and review of the 6.5 Creedmoor Federal Fusion 140 grain fired from a Ruger American chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor with a 22 inch barrel.
Checkout my leather gear handmade by me, just for you here: www.masonleather.com/store/c1...
All shots are fired from a distance of 100 yards to encompass the majority of common real world hunting scenarios.
I will be shooting into 10% ballistics gel from www.clearballistics.com that has been calibrated to meet the FBI ballistics testing protocol.
While ballistics gel isn’t an exact proxy for big game, small game, predators or defensive situations, it does provide a repeatable medium through which to test various bullets and ammunitions against each other.
With each type of ammo tested I collect data on bullet penetration depth, bullet weight retention, bullet expansion and muzzle velocity.
For reference, bullet expansion is measured at the widest expanded point using a calibrated Frankford Arsenal Digital Caliper.
Bullet weight is measured using a calibrated Frankford Arsenal Digital Scale after having removed as much ballistics gel as possible from the expanded bullets.
Bullet velocity is measured using a ProChronoPal chronograph set approximately 7’ from the shooting bench.
I am fully aware that a chronograph measuring bullet velocity from 7’ away from the muzzle is going to register a slower velocity than if velocity were measured directly at the muzzle, but that difference is going to be so small as to be all but irrelevant in regards to comparison of actual measured velocity versus factory stated velocity.
My goal with these ballistics gel tests is to provide hunters like you and I with the most objective information possible to help us make the best choice for our particular hunting situation.
The results of these tests are my own and I cannot guarantee the same or similar performance on your part. The views and opinions expressed in this video are solely my own.
All videos are filmed in a safe and controlled environment on a private range with all applicable safety precautions by a trained professional. - บันเทิง

Test the Hornady superphomace 129 grain sst.
This sure saves a lot of time and money to thousands of shooters by you doing these tests. Great job on your videos! 5:18
Glad to be of service!
Fusion usually works so well, this has to be one of the best factory loads for hunting, regardless of cartridge, it just works.
Absolutely
the federal fusion is a "budget" bullet with premium results. they are awesome and kill very quickly. shoot that 24" barrel in 6.5cm Tikka t3x superlite and you dont even know its a 24" barrel
Fusions are awesome, discovered them thanks to you. Can’t wait for their tipped version
Definitely eagerly waiting for the tipped fusion
Glad to be of service!
@masonleather appreciate your ballistics tests, extremely uniform, extremely helpful. For the money you just can't beat fusion, I've hammered them with the 270, 7 mm, and I've got.a 6.5 creedmoor to try them through next.
Fusion performance is awesome.
Absolutely
That is EXCELLENT performance!!!
Absolutely
Really enjoy your test keep up the good job 👍🏻
Glad to be of service!
Awesome, definitely need to see how results on 30-06 270 or 308 nosler accbounds tests
For a cheaper costing bullet these things are awesome.
Absolutely
Looks great. Many thanks.
Glad to be of service!
discovered them a very long time ago when speer and federal offered them for handloaders . they are an awesome bullet
Absolutely
Looks like I’m going to be switching from Archery to Gun hunting this year. Getting a little long in the tooth. You’re saving me a lot of time and money at the range or at least narrowing down some the ammo choice's in a couple new rifles I have yet to shoot. I for sure will have Fusion in the lineup, maybe even some blue box. Thanks and keep doing what you’re doing. Cheers
Thanks for the support and I’m glad to be of service!
Seen Fusion used in 300 win and 270 WSM …..it’s devastating
Good test and data. Even though the bullet performance was really good I hate that ammo manufacturers "fudge" about the FPS, or use really long barrels to get what appear to be outstanding speeds.
Hornady has newer 150 grain InterLock ammo for 350 Legend, states it as going 2,500 fps, but found out that is from a 24" barrel. Would love for you to test that ammo from a 16" or 18" barrel if possible. Would be interesting to see if there is enough additional speed to switch from the 150 Deer Season XP that lists 2,325 fps from a 20" barrel.
Glad to be of service! More 350 stuff coming
@@masonleather Thank you sir, it is appreciated.
I believe Federal tests all their 6.5 Creedmoor from a 26" barrel.
A tech from Federal told me on the phone that they go by industry standards simply because everybody else does it, basically their ammo would be at a major marketing disadvantage if they tested from realistic/common barrel lengths. He agreed it seems like false advertising but insisted that they're forced into it by the rest of the companies.
Great video.
Glad to be of service!
Best dear ammo iv ever used dropped red stag one shot and done !
Great stuff
I have always liked federal amo even 12 gage slugs
It’s great stuff, seems to be very consistent
Interesting, I have some of this. Thanks for the video.
Glad to be of service!
Another great video!
Are you going to go a 6.5 CM Trophy Cooper video? I notice there isnt really anything like that on TH-cam the way you do it. Keep up the great videos! 👍🏻
Good info 👍
Glad to be of service!
I just got some federal 556 62 gr trophy bonded bearclaw, would be cool if you tested them.
I've never used Federal Fusion ammo in my 6.5 creedmoor but have used it exclusively in my 270 and my 300 wsm. Nothing I have hit with it have ever taken a step..
It really seems to be great stuff
Have you ever tested any 25/06 ammo? Would love to see it.
Not yet, will when I can
@@masonleather Keep up the good work! Very good useful information!
Awesome video! I just purchased browning new max point in 270 how about one of those videos 👍🏼
Glad to be of service! Everything is coming
Would like to handload 165gr Fusion in 308win, haven't been able to find any. Just 150gr & 180gr, the 165gr is the most accurate in my mod70 20"barrel
Love the WWII GI Camo. The only Camo that Deer try to eat while I am hunting in the last 50 years.
Haha
Ahh the 6.5 needmoor. The funniest thing is, it's the same ballistics as the 6.5x55 and yet the needmoor boys thought they had a secret weapon and even trashed the Swed guys. The 6.5 prc is what the manbun boys thought they had. My bergara 24 inch shoots 142/143 factory at an average of 2930 and 130s at 3,100. The needmoor boys...has a ring to it!
I'm Standardizing on the 120 gr 25-06 load. My son bought a new Garrmin chrono. Interested in finding out how it performs out of my Rem 7600 I'm Expecting 2910 FPS at the muzzle. Hope I'm not seriously disappointed.
Thanks for this video. I had an experience with this ammo in 6.5 creedmoor. I hit a red stag from about 80m and it didn’t drop. I couldn’t find it no blood trail. Then about 30 minutes another young stag from about the same distance and same result. I wondered if the ammo was penciling them and not expanding.
I changed to Hornady SSTs and never had a problem since.
I still have two packets of Federal Fusion in my gun safe. I might drag it out for another try. 😊
Glad to be of service!
Sorry to say this, but if you shot another only 30 minutes later, you did not spend much time looking for a downed stag. Many if not most animals do not drop at the shot; no matter what you hit them with. At times I have been on my hands and knees looking for sign after shooting something. Been hunting deer since 1962 and have lost only a couple of deer after I know I hit them. Even one is too many, but sometimes bad things happen. Disappointed you apparently did not spend time looking for an injured or dead deer. You may have killed both but you don't know.
The fusion ammo is quality stuff, the bullet, as it is well known now, is a Speer bullet. Unfortunately the 308 fusion accuracy sucks in 3 of my 308s, all well built rifles with Brux and Benchmark barrels. Won't be a problem if a deer is inside 150 yards but I like ammo that's more accurate. Mostly I load my own.
Nice 👍🏼
Wish these didnt shoot horrible out of my Tikka.
Ran across a Federal Academy Sports exclusive 7-08 loading. It patterned 6"-8" groups at 100 yards.
That sucks it's one of the best out of my tikka 270
@@user-gb8gg6ho4q Firearms are funny things like that sometimes. Just glad I hadnt picked up more than the 2 boxes, that I did.
That’s wild
@@masonleather Yeah, it wasnt expected at all. Federal has always given me acceptable to excellent accuracy over the years. And Tikka's are known for being accurate rifles, with a guarantee no less.
After that mentioned Fedral load. I came back out with a box of 139gr SP Hornady Whitetail and a box of PRVI 140gr SP. Both produced under an inch and a half groups at 100. Norma's 150gr offering is also very acceptable out of my rifle. For some odd reason that particular load with the Fusion 140gr just doesn't fair well in my rifle.
Thank you very much!
Will there be tests in 6.5 PRC caliber?
I would really appreciate it!
Greetings from Hungary!
Hello!
Glad to be of service! Yes eventually I will do the PRCs
You should test their terminal ascend 130grain 6.5 creedmoor.
Did that about 9 months ago, it’s on my channel
@@masonleather ohhhhh sweeetttt I'll check it out! Thanks
Glad to be of service!
Test some controlled chaos bullets in 6.5 Creedmoor please?🙏🏾
Eventually
These have been fantastic in my 308 just impossible to find the bullet to reload. I want to load these in my 6.5prc but for now ill be using 130 grain cx
I buy my fusion bullets 308 180gr and 150gr in Quebec,Canada on Londero Sport,on a moose it,s the best bullet for me in my 300wsm and my 308,,270 very accurate!
@@donaldbougie694 they don't have the projectiles. Only factory ammo
can you test 350 legend in federal fusion? if you did I can not find it on you site
That looks very similar to a gold dot jsp, are they the same projectile?
Not sure, similar at least
Can u do eld-x 143 grain
Already did
Are you planning on doing 140 or 147 ELDM in 6.5 CM? 😇
I’m primarily doing hunting oriented loads but yes I will eventually
Is it true that the Fusion and Speer Gold Dot are basically the same bullet?
Yes
I believe so
Cool. Thanks. Got some 120s for my Grendel and interested in loading them in my Creedmoor.
What was the fail??
Nothing, that’s why there’s a question mark. The question was answered.
Lee, I’ve posted two comments on this video praising the effectiveness of the Fusion and they both disappeared. TH-cam censorship?
I have no idea, sometimes my comments disappear as well
@@masonleather Either way, it’s not “just” happening. Have a good evening.
Very dangerous if you are shot with it.
Absolutely
Lost over 100 ft./sec is crazy
Par for the course unfortunately
