What comes to your mind when you think of Chennai?

I'm from Chennai, from one of the oldest neighborhood. My ancestors migrated to this city sometime in the 1800s and I have heard of how the city grew up to be what it is now. The reason why Chennai floods so much is because almost all of the lakes in Chennai have been filled up for real estate. There were huge lakes and tanks like Long Tank ( T. Nagar was reclaimed from that), Many parts of Nungambakkam was lake once. This is the same reason why even Mumbai floods every monsoon. We have filled up all the natural waterways. If one pulls up the map of Madras from early 1900s, one can see that none of the Old Madras areas gets flooded as badly as the 'reclaimed' parts.

imd predicted that chennai will be fully submerged by 2100 but if you have any close relatives or your family friends from metrilogical department ask them how far is this true they say that yes its true but they say not by 2100 they decrease the life span even 50years more. like 2050 down the line but my prediction is 2041.

@@shobith5509 Chennai will be there even by the year 3000! but someparts along the shore might get sea water intrusion but by that time technology will be advanced such as sea reclamation and other projects.

Hi, This storm water drainage system built was not engineered properly, In fact before construction our area was not affected, During heavy rain, little amount of water stagnated and drained after few hours, Now after construction they have not provided proper gradient and proper size, If you analyse the size of the drain is uniform, normally in the starting place it should be small as it travels the size should increase, and in the end place it should be able to flow in a stream or wherever but due to blocking the water is not able to flow and reverses, must be studied and rectified

This vid makes me realize that the people who are affected by flooding, rain water coming into their house, water clogging in areas completely deserve it. Since they wanted to occupy the land belonged to lakes, rivers, canals, drainage systems and convert them into houses. They must understand that not every single sq.ft in the city is residential. You go against nature this is what you get.

Surat used to flood every year in monsoon when I was kid, now it never floods!! Surat grew unlike any other city of India in last 20 years. Surat has 70% population born outside of Surat district and 30% population born outside of Gujarat, making Surat as highest migrant city in India. Even having such rapid growth, all odd against the city, Surat don’t flood anymore. City which was not even in top 20 big cities of India in 1970s (most dirty city of India), now it’s 7th biggest city of India (2nd cleanest city of India for last 10 years), having 7.5 million people. You gotta have efficient vision based Municipal corporation working towards goal. Surat is one of the cleanest city in India and lowest number of slums in entire India, due to high number of construction of slum relocation apartments. All slums I have seen during my childhood all are gone and relocated to apartment at place where slum used to exists. No blockage in storm water drains and city cleans their road almost every night! Very minimal garbage goes to drains. Any blame game doesn’t work until you have visionary person leading!

how come surat is highest migrant city in india, does it have more migrants than delhi , mumbai , bangalore ?

@@shardamohite2670 Surat is industrial city, most migrant in Surat are from UP & Odisa, Maharashtra & Telugu land. Internal migrant are from Saurastra region of Gujarat. Most outside migrant in Surat are unskilled labours. 100% labour workers in textile is from UP or Odisha, my cousin’s factory has 800+ workers, most are from Odisha. As per 2011 census of India, Surat alone had double the people born outside of Gujarat than entire Tamilnadu state combined had people born outside of Tamilnadu. Even Surat municipal corp created gov schools in language of migrants, there are 55 Marathi, 7 Odia, 3 Telegu, some Hindi medium, Surat Municipal corporation run schools are there for migrant children.

People Going abroad should stop buying flats assuming as a asset and a living area while the plan to settle in india in their old age. These flats will be obsolete and old while they return back. This creates high demand and lot of boom in real estate, end up with lot of vacant property.

Chennai is a dirty city, a beautyful city turned dirty by human negligence...
Policians play a major role, but no voice from people , people here are voiceless.
