As a new reader, I will never reference the New York Times bestseller list. I will be adverse to buying any book on it. Sorry, big media, but if you don't want this attitude from potential customers you should have been more transparent. Agreed. I think this might be a global shift in the next decade or so as well - remember when social media was perfect and now it is authentic? We want the messy behind-the-scenes look at what it REALLY takes! (and also why so many super successful people develop horrendous personal issues 💔)

Nice ironic intro! I saw that Dave Ramsey on his money makeover show would offer all sorts of free gifts to folks who would preorder his new books to ensure that they could hit the NYT bestseller list. It makes me skeptical of the credibility of being a "Bestseller" author. Just write good books that I will enjoy reading! Cheers
Yes! Those are sometimes called bonuses. “If you buy X number of copies, you’ll get this!” It just incentivizes people to buy more copies, like you mentioned. I hear ya though, learning how the sausage gets made can make it unappetizing after knowing about it!
