I don't have that issue of feeling bad about not liking books lol. I've just sold two books that I've hated because I have this thing where I'll have flashbacks to the thoughts and feelings of a read book if I look at it - which is great a lot of the times - but in this particular case it gave me no pleasure whatsoever to look at two books that made me feel nauseous, annoyed and disgusted. Good riddance I say! And the best thing? Writers' conferences sound like serious business! Your one line description advice reminded me of something Rob Long (Screenwriter and producer of Cheers) said on the Glop podcast. He quoted a line from a trade magazine about a new show: "The story centers on a middle aged single mother, despite her blue collar lifestyle, strives to give her loved ones all of the joy of a normal life." It seems the Hollywood elites don't see a blue collar lifestyle full of joy. Not a good one liner if you are interested in regular people enjoying your show. Good video, lots of useful ideas. @laurenericks0n หลายเดือนก่อน

Oooh, good question. I guess it sort of depends on if you're wondering about fiction or nonfiction because they each have their own marketing approaches in my opinion. With fiction, the emphasis is on the story itself, whereas with nonfiction, it's more about the solution/brand. As far as fiction goes, I have a friend who's an indie romance writer (Ellie Jennings) and has been very consistent on Instagram and with her newsletter, sharing updates, links, and just funny photos/memes she thinks her audience would enjoy. She's managed to get nearly 100 reviews on one of her first books by building authentic connections with people in these ways. In terms of nonfiction, I met a retired guy who used to work in the financial space and created a Facebook Group for those who read his book to discuss their thoughts and get updates on the financial landscape. In his group's description, he also added it's a space for folks "who may may be interested in receiving income & retirement investment coaching." His group's grown enough that he's got over 1k new leads (who are familiar with his approach) to tap into for his own business. You're not the first person to have asked this, so I think I may make my next video on answering this question. Hope this helps and glad you enjoyed the video!!

Hi, I stumbled upon this video and really liked it. How can I learn more about this field - what's a good starting point?

I'm so glad you enjoyed it! I would maybe look at 1-2 content creators you like on a platform you're curious about and see what they do for others or for their own brand. You can also just search "content marketing" in the search bar on YT (if you haven't already) and there's a bunch of stuff that comes up. :)

I stumbled upon your channel because I am a reader and get "BookTube" channel recommendations. I have enjoyed learning about the hidden world of publishing. You are very organized and a self starter. Good luck!
