Hello Dereck, I've been watching your videos for a few months and it's a pleasure to see you discover some classic French music, for some time I was wondering when you would arrive at Serge Guinsbourg, you're finally there! One thing is certain, you must continue to discover his work. For me he is a major artist of French culture, composer, performer and poet. He went through several musical periods and each time he produced complete albums of hits. It's a gigantic production, he wrote a lot of songs for other artists. He is undoubtedly my favorite French artist, there is not a week in my life where I do not listen to his songs. Today he is considered a musical genius, although he himself never considered himself a major artist. However, you need to know some things about this character. He is a sulphurous and contested person, during his lifetime, he always disturbed and pushed the limits of society. Some songs deal with delicate subjects, violence, incest etc ... Unfortunately, in the current cancel culture it seems difficult to react to certain songs. In my opinion Serge Gainsbourg would have hated this movement and would have fought it with his weapons vocabulary, impertinance rhythm and melody! My recommendation: Variations sur Marilou. th-cam.com/video/0XRL6S7qrx8/w-d-xo.html No vidéo clip, but i think you gonna apreciate the texte translation.

He formed a mythical couple with Jane Birking, they had a daughter Charlotte Gainsbourg, who became a famous actress and singer, she is a bit the darling of the French. 'Initials BB' (written for French actress Brigitte Bardot who he was in a relationship with for a while) is a classic love song and another something different, also using a few notes from one of the classical composer Dvorak's symphonies.

Gainsbourg, Balavoine, Coluche, Thierry leluron were controversial public figures to the political class. They were very opinionated and weren't scared to voice their contention on social issues. Gainsbourg died 30 years ago but his influence in the French artistry is still very much present in France. He's the father of French actress Charlotte Gainsbourg.
Serge Gainsbourg was a genius, he wrote his texts and composed the music for all his songs. This song was sung by Edit Piaf in 1936, which sings the love of a woman for a dead Legionaire, so he made this new version, the music video is directed by Luc Besson (the fifth element, Nikita, the big blue, Subway, etc.) listen if possible, - Je t’aime, moi non plus. - Initials B.B (song written for Brigitte Bardo, and which speaks of her, a pure masterpiece) - La Javanese etc. etc.
Legendary is a euphemism in his case. And indeed, no one could mess with this guys, my god he could bark back. You’re gonna have to choose another fruit there…. He’s off the bananas chart! Let me suggest cabbage. ;). This song was originally sung by another LEGEND, Edith Piaf. Gainsbourg has many phases in his life as a musician. This is the later phase. (Also wrote that Tandem song you reacted to. Try initials BB or Laëtitia for the 1960s stuff.)
Serge and his legendary provocations ^^ : Serge Gainsbourg & Charlotte Gainsbourg - Lemon Incest (1984) Serge Gainsbourg - Love On The Beat (1984) France Gall & Serge Gainsbourg - Les Sucettes (1966) Serge Gainsbourg - Aux armes et cætera (1979) Serge Gainsbourg & Jane Birkin - Je t'aime... moi non (1969) and more...
Oh damn !! That's it ! 🙆♀️You finally listened to Serge Gainsbourg. 🙌☝I no longer believed in it. I had suggested it a few times but I didn't know if you were going to like it or not. He is a French singer whom I really like. Too bad he's left us. It's really cool that you like this song.👍 if you like bass guitars and what he does, i advise you to listen to other songs from him like: - 69 année érotique. - je t'aime moi non plus. - no comment. - la ballade de Melody Nelson. - initials BB. - bonnie and clyde. - je suis venu te dire que je m'en vais. I can't wait to see you and hear you react to these songs.😁 By the way, I heard about you in France, a French radio station called France Inter which explains what you do, your reactions .., (only positive, don't worry😉) listening to French songs ! I advise you to discover a song he did with his wife jane "69 année érotique". A heavy smoker and alcoholic, he died of it. His disappearance left the French with deep sadness. But it leaves an incredible artistic heritage worthy of France. I also advise you to discover alain bashung roker with a big heart and poet. thank's and big kiss from France.
C'est vraiment cool ce que tu proposes et mettre en avant la chanson française
Dereck this IS the boss!!!
Hi Derek so glad you undertsand the genius of this man. Please listen to his song Melody Nelson, less 2 minutes of beauty and in your free tome, listen to the album. A gem !
This was originally a song by the famous Edith Piaf!
You definitely do not mess with Serge Gainsbourg... Lol. Truer words were never spoken. 'Initials BB' (written for French actress Brigitte Bardot who he was in a relationship with for a while) is a classic love song and another something different, also using a few notes from one of the classical composer Dvorak's symphonies.
Yes !!!! Finally ! Thanks Dereck !
Gainsbourg's work is huge, to 50ies 'till he end of 80ies, he was a master... I'm sure you will have a lot a fantastic recommandations, I will add "Melody Nelson" to them ! ;)
More Gainsbourrrggggg 😁🤗
He love orchestrations, i think gainsbourg will be reviewed for a long time.
My favorite song from this genius !
Thank you for taking the time to listen to this great singer, I made other suggestions but you didn't watch 😘
I had forgotten that Chef d'Oeuvre. Now it's on my 80's playlist !
If you want to listen to more from him you should try “Initials BB” or “Bonnie and Clyde”, the instrumentation is very interesting in these songs.
Hi Dereck!! i just discover your channel and i just can't stop watching!! thank you!! did you head Gainsbourg's version of "la marseillaise", the french anthem?
and, try the short song of Renaud: "tu vas au bal" you'll be stunned!!
Finally you take Mr Serge 😇😉✌️🙏🇫🇷
Serge Gainsbourg was Picaso of music, the purest of the purest of the 20th century
Listening, love and the bit ...🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃💥
Love and the bit... An incredibily song...
Gainsbourg was an artist, poet, painter, pianist ... LISTEN "couleur café" ☀️
Already do
Merci de faire découvrir serge Gainsbourg a vos compatriotes
He had big, clear eyes
Where sometimes lightning passed
As in the sky pass storms
He was full of tattoos
That I never really understood
On his neck was written "Not seen, not taken".
On his heart it read "Nobody".
On his right arm a word "Raisonne
I don't know his name, I don't know anything about him
He loved me all night long
My legionnaire
And left me to my fate
He left in the morning
Full of light
He was thin, he was beautiful
He smelled like warm sand
My legionnaire!
(...)
There was sun on his forehead
That put in his blond hair
Of the light
Happiness lost, happiness gone
Always I think of that night
And the desire for her skin gnaws at me
Sometimes I cry and then I think
That when he was on my heart
I should have shouted my happiness
But I didn't dare to tell him
I was afraid to see him smile
I don't know his name, I know nothing about him
He loved me all night long
My legionnaire
And left me to my fate
He left in the morning
Full of light
(...)
He was thin, he was beautiful
He smelled like warm sand
My legionnaire
There was sun on his forehead
That put in his blond hair
Of the light
( solo saxo )
We found him in the desert
He had his beautiful eyes open
In the sky, clouds were passing by
He showed his tattoos
Smiling and he said
Showing his neck
"Not seen, not taken"
Showing his heart
"Here, nobody"
He didn't know
I forgive him
I dreamed that destiny
(...)
Would bring me back one fine morning
My legionnaire
That we would go away alone together
In some wonderful country
Full of light
He was thin, he was beautiful,
We put him under the warm sand
My legionnaire
There was sun on his forehead
That put in his blond hair
Of the light

This is how you are reminded what a genius he was.
A masterpiece ! Serge gainsbourg is fantastic ,a lot of great songs 💙he ´s legendary ..i suggest you : je t’aime moi non plus
Wow amazing song !!!! 😍😍😍😍🙏
I loved this artist this voice is sensuelle big artist in France concert génial artist very sympathique who many.smokink good choice Derek you're very so cute the loving your French artist. ❤️❤️🗼🇫🇷🇫🇷
ENFIN !!!!! 💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖
So you will love the beauty song from Gainsbourg
Thank you Dereck 🙂 You should listen to manureva written by Serge Gainsbourg. The singer is Alain Chamfort.
Gainsbourg is a genious melodist and a poet
If you starting to explore Serge Gainsbourg songs, you are in for the surprise Dereck ! BTW this song is a remix from Edith Piaf
Precisely, it's a cover from Marie Dubas who first sang it in 1936. Edith Piaf sang it in 1937.
the video clip was directed by luc Besson ( Leon / le grand bleu ... )
Serge Gainsbourg was a genius, he wrote his texts and composed the music for all his songs.
This song was sung by Edit Piaf in 1936, which sings the love of a woman for a dead Legionaire, so he made this new version, the music video is directed by Luc Besson (the fifth element, Nikita, the big blue, Subway, etc.)
listen if possible,
- Je t’aime, moi non plus.
- Initials B.B (song written for Brigitte Bardo, and which speaks of her, a pure masterpiece)
- La Javanese
etc.
The whole album is a gem.
Un des plus grand artiste de France 👌🏻👌🏻
Du monde !!! :)
Next: "You're under arrest" by Serge Gainsbourg. Great clip.

And now, " you're under arrest" by GAINSBOURG...
Good proposal with few English lyrics. The sound is BIG.
Très belle chanson
Another good choice Dereck ! Gainsbourg was the best french songwriter...
The best reaction to Gainsbourg will remain Whitney Houston's but I encourage you not to put it on youtube... 😁
XD
Poor girl had been so shocked! The blame is to put on M. Drucker who let Gainsbourg be on the show dead drunk...
Ça est le billet de 500 franc brûlé... on ferait ça aujourd'hui on irait en tôle direct
Oui. Elle avait été trop choquée
Serge and his legendary provocations ^^ :
Serge Gainsbourg & Charlotte Gainsbourg - Lemon Incest (1984)
Serge Gainsbourg - Love On The Beat (1984)
France Gall & Serge Gainsbourg - Les Sucettes (1966)
Serge Gainsbourg - Aux armes et cætera (1979)
Serge Gainsbourg & Jane Birkin - Je t'aime... moi non (1969)
and more...
Initials BB!!
Oh damn !! That's it ! 🙆♀️You finally listened to Serge Gainsbourg. 🙌☝I no longer believed in it. I had suggested it a few times but I didn't know if you were going to like it or not. He is a French singer whom I really like. Too bad he's left us. It's really cool that you like this song.👍
if you like bass guitars and what he does, i advise you to listen to other songs from him like:
- 69 année érotique.
- je t'aime moi non plus.
- la ballade de Melody Nelson.
- initials BB.
- bonnie and clyde.
- je suis venu te dire que je m'en vais.
I can't wait to see you and hear you react to these songs.😁
By the way, I heard about you in France, a French radio station called France Inter which explains what you do, your reactions .., (only positive, don't worry😉) listening to French songs ! Isn't that great?😃🍌🍌🍌
