      I use Dermol (emoliant & dermatitis cream) on my new tattoos 2-3 times a day & it's awesome, it's also a soap so it keeps the artwork clean & eases the itching. I'm unsure if it's available over the counter as I was prescribed it for Radiotherapy burns when I was going thru nasal cancer treatment, thoroughly recommended (the cream not cancer obviously lol). I used Bepanthen once on 1 tattoo on my forearm & had a major allergic reaction to it & it felt like someone had poured acid over my arm, not recommended. Great channel :)

    I've heard bepathan recently changed the formula to include more lanolin. Which made it clog up the new tattoo wound.

  • @SayianChi
    @SayianChi 6 ปีที่แล้ว +37

    Very informative but... you shouldn’t leave the cling film on until the next day , that’s how you get an infection and heavy scabbing due to the blood and plasma drying up .
    I have 7 tattoos at the moment , I have only had cling film on for 2 hours at the most from leaving the tattoo parlour , and it hasn’t failed me every tattoo has healed 10/10. You are meant to let the wound breathe oxygen is good for it

      i agree

    • @theresonly2genders857
      @theresonly2genders857 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      You leave the cling film on because your tattoo is an open wound. This basically gives it times to 'close up.' It's more of a health / lowering infection thing; not a 'gives you a better looking tattoo' thing.
      I usually leave my cling film on over night (got 2 full sleeves and all tattoos were done at night), sleep with it on, then when I wake up: immediately take it off, wash and rinse, then go to normal lotion aftercare routine.
      Never had an infection and all my tattoos look like they did on day one (which also has ALOT to do with the artist).
      Cheers!
      *Edit: Everyone has their own routine. Manomi Frost says she doesn't even put lotion on her tattoos, only cleans with soap, and they look really good. Just got to find routine that is best for you, given the genetic and environmental factors: like how oily your skin is, clothes you wear, humidity, temperature, etc.*

    The artist who did my latest tattoo recommended to cover the tattoo with clingfilm for about 2-3 days, changing the clingfilm and gently cleaning the tattoo with water 2-3 times a day.
    Before I always did the usual clingfilm till morning, then appropriate cream + washing, but I have to say that this 2-3 day clingfilm procedure made heal my tattoo like never before. When I transitioned from the clingfilm to the cream part I peeled completely in about 2 days. Then it healed really fast, the only issue was that it was a bit dry for the first week, but eventually that was solved via the cream.
    What is your opinion on this procedure? :)
    Anyway, great videos, keep up the good work.

    very informative video, although regarding the healing i would like to add that it depends on the area and the size of the tattoos. that said, the complete healing would take about 3 to 4 weeks, which includes the forming of the new layer of skin that was damaged during the tattooing process. also avoiding exposure to direct sun or heat, and Salt water for the fist month or so will increase the life and strength(Texture) of the tattoo.
    Good luck and god bless!!!

    Remove clingfilm 4hrs after tattoo completion. Rinse with warm shower and scentless anti bacterial soap/handwash (usually blue) very gently to remove all plasma, let the shower do the work. Dry round edges without touching your new inking, let the fresh masterpiece air dry for at least 30 mins. Apply a tiny amount of Bepanthan, emphasis on very light amount, just enough so the tattoo looks shiny. No visible creme left on skin. Apply every 6-8 hrs or whenever skin begins to tighten, gently showering the area each time DO NOT BATH the area until fully healed. Allow to air dry again, a little less required as time goes on but make sure the area is dry before applying Bepanthan or it will lock the moisture in. Again, the thinner the application the better! Clingfilm for first few nights if required (not too tight)..I.e awkward area like elbow which is easy to catch on bed sheets etc. Next morning remove clingfilm and go through same rigmarole (trust me it's worth it, this inks for life) then clingfilm if clothing will come into contact. Keep this routine going every 8 hrs or whenever possible. Allow the air to get to your new tattoo if and when possible...like when watching TV for example. Clingfilm shouldn't be necessary after a week unless you suffer from the dreaded itch. I find applying cling film forms a protective barrier so you can GENTLY run your finger nails over the itch. DO NOT attempt this without a taught layer of clingfilm over your inking or you've just wasted your hard earned cash because your ink will now be under your nails and said masterpiece will be ruined. The itch WILL go. As long as you keep the area clean and be very cautious your new tattoo should heal fine. This is the method I use and will continue to do so. Happy inking everyone!

    • @jojo1234a
      @jojo1234a 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Your method is the exact method I use, it’s never failed me, my tattoos have all come out great and the older ones have proven the test of time so far. I usually peel twice, first the big chunky scabs, and then a secondary very thin layer of skin once the bigger scabs have all gone. At this point I use palmers coco butter (although I have tried a more genetic coco butter on my latest tattoo and it was more than half the price of Palmers, and worked just the same … I shopped carefully and read the ingredients, there are some butters out there full of perfumes and unnecessary stuff, but this one I bought is very minimal and natural, and cheaper yay!). All tattoos have taken approximately 1 week to shed twice and move onto coco butter, however I had my first calf tattoo in which my body just wasn’t happy… no infection, all fine, but the scabbing stage took forever, about 3.5 weeks until I was ready to move to the coco butter. Weird, but it healed lovely and I’m super happy.

    i learnt personally to not use bepanthen. it made my tattoo that was supposed to be a black work type - grey and blueish. i used a different cosmetic (easy tattoo) on the other side of the leg and the contours (that side if the leg wasn't filled) of the tattoo are a lot darker.

    Best experiences I’ve had with healing my tattoos was shea butter and naturally, petroleum jelly. If I had to cover it up, or have clothing slightly tighter, I’d apply a very thin layer of well rubbed in petroleum jelly, and whenever I’d get back, or If I was going to moisturise it, I’d lather up some shea butter soap, and then apply and moisturise it into the tattoo, and then lightly dab it off with water, avoiding scratching the tattoo at all. That’s held the pigment super nicely in my tattoos, and really well kept them in! Everything works different. If you’re getting itchy too, resist! Either that, or slap it very lightly.

    Used Savlon on all of mine, especially my whole back piece. Never had a single problem and very minimal skin peeling or scabbing over when healing. I got my first and only tattoo in 2004. It was extremely painful, and took weeks to heal, despite my meticulous aftercare. Eight years later, I found out I have a genetic connective disorder. It causes problems in every part of my body, including the skin. This is why I had so much trouble with my tattoo.
    I’m dying to get more tattoos, but I’m afraid of complications. My skin has become even more fragile as I get older, and even a small scratch causes a deep wound that takes forever to heal.

      This is an unsolicited suggestion and definitely not a real solution, but have you considered high quality fake tattoos? They usually last up to a month. It's a way to express yourself without having it there forever, and it obviously isn't as traumatic for your body. I'm not going to plug the brand I've tried, but they're easy to find online.

    I use Carex soap for cleaning out my new tattoos, and then after it has dried I put on a thin layer of Palmer's Cocoa Butter. Rinse and repeat, a few times a day :) I find applying a bit of the Palmer's if it's really itching during the peeling stage helps soothe it so I don't end up accidentally scratching at the tattoo too!

    Tattoos don’t take a week to heal after six days that’s when it peels it usually takes 30 to 36 days when it’s all healed in the scabs are all gone Aquaphor is the best aftercare.

(The one with Healix Gold + Panthenol, in the yellow and white little tube) Also what do you think the H20 Ocean Blue Green Foam Soap is a good soap to wash your new tattoo with? It's fragrance free and antibacterial.

    Hi I was wondering if you could give me a little advise please? I've just had a neck tattoo and was wondering about the best aftercare as it's really hard not to move it and stuff. Also everything I read tells me to keep it out of the sun which is impossible as I work outside and we're having this mad heatwave in England, probably not the best time to of had it done. Any advise would be much appreciated thanks

    I never hear how long a new tattoo should be moisturised for, sometimes ink in certain parts stays like very small bubbles and nobody I know isn't really sure if they should keep moisutising it or leave it.
    Also no one ever says if moisturising it lightly for months will keep it fresh or doesn't make a difference.

    I'm planning on getting a large thigh piece done this summer. Unless something changes, I'll be working at a family restaurant. I've been able to let my first two tattoos heal without havign to deal with them being covered by clothes for long periods of time but a leg can be different, especially in a food service area. Any advice on how to keep a fresh tattoo comfortable and safe under looser fitting capris or pants?

      if you sweat profusely just make sure to have a shower or clean your fresh tattoo when you can/when you get home.then apply a thin layer of cream back over before bed or in the morning

      You can put gauze over it with some medical tape just over the corners of it. It gives you a clean sterilized barrier that can absorb sweat and the skin can breathe.

    A very informative video. i have used Bepanthen on a few of my tattoos but i have also used cocoa butter and aloe vera gel too. You can get a big tube of AV from Holland and Barrett for about 6.99. When it comes to leakage, I use child's bet wetting sheets such as Huggies dry nights or Pampers change mats (I have ASDA own brand ones) as they are absorbent and stop anything getting on your sheets. They are also disposable.

    Just came from a video about Bepanthen not being good for healing tattoos because it causes blotchiness and other undesirable results, most of which causing an effect of a new(ish) tattoo to look way older than it is.

    Just in the process of a full sleeve, for me, best results is to wash with dermatological soap and pat dry with kitchen towel 3 times a day and apply a very thin layer of vegan cream (for tattoos) after each wash/dry.
    Top tips....keep it dry and avoid the sun. I follow these rules and roughly 5 days to heal. 👍🏼

      I think the issue is with people not knowing when a tattoo is actually healed. The top two layers will shred off in 1-2weeks leaving you with new "healed" skin underneath, but that doesn't mean the bottom layers of skin have healed properly or that the texture of the top layer has gone back to how it should naturally be. Edit: I am a tattoo artist.

    Hiya, I just got my first tattoo 2 weeks ago, and my artist used Saniderm to cover it up. Basically it's a layer of 2nd skin that you leave on for a couple of days and it stops things from getting gooey and makes it heal faster. Do you have any experience in using this? My parents, sister and brother-in law, who are all heavily tattooed, had never heard of this product, and I wonder why it isn't being used more often. x

    • @GravityTattooShop
      @GravityTattooShop  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s wonderful when used correctly, but can cause a *really* bad reaction in some people when used in conjunction with numbing sprays. Or if applied at home and the area is not totally clean first, so the dirt gets trapped inside. So it’s fine when used at the advice of your tattoo artist because they know what other products they’ve used on you :)
